  1. Jayden Jett from Cowan went from a regional qualifier at 120 to 8th place at frosh soph state Jackson New Yorktown 220 went out first round of semi-state lost 1-0 to Beck of Rochester and pinned everyone else to get third as a second year wrestler. The East Central kid that won at 138 was very entertaining and could pin anyone from anywhere Cameron Clark of Jay County falls in OT in the finals to Thrine who is tough as nails. I saw tons of pretty decent kids this weekend that didn't place honestly. I think the level of competition at this has drastically improved over the last couple years.
  2. Wrestled with him a couple times last week. He will be a tough little freshman
  3. Just checked it today. Ben Milius in 02-03 season had 336 takedowns. Chandler Carroll 4x placer phenomenal neutral wrestler and cut just about every kid he wrestled 165 takedowns in 11-12 season... thats insane
  4. Millius twins takedown records will stay up on our wall forever. I’d have to double check the number but it was CRAZY high... like double or triple Chandler Carroll’s season record.
  5. Also Christian Mejia and Christian Hunt their freshman year OT ticket round is another one that comes to mind.
  6. Schuyler Phillips (Yorktown) and Forrest Glogouski (Fairfield) was a rough one both were ranked top 5 I believe and Phillips lost to LJ Mosier of South Adam’s in regional finals. I believe they also wrestled in the round to go to nationals at D2 regionals as well.
  7. We will take as many matches as we can get. ESPECIALLY this year. For what it’s worth, I think semi-state is a pretty decent accomplishment for a kid who’s a second-year wrestler and weighs 100 lbs. We are just grateful we get to go compete even if it is only one more match

    Delaware County Tournament

    01/07/2021
  9. How could I forget my neighbor . Cael McCormick as well, but I believe he was only a three time placer losing to Alston Bane Friday night one year. Also Christian Hunt three time placer two time runner up lost to Cummings and Triana as a freshman Friday night to graham rooks then in finals to Bailey and slivka
  10. Chandler Carroll Yorktown 4x placer 3rd- loss to Campbell of New Castle 5th loss to Ayersman 4th loss to Forte then Hupp 5th loss to Schurg Sage Coy Southside/Delta believe was a Fargo AA before in Greco missed post season first two years of hs takes 3rd losing only to nick lee then places again battling some injuries. One of the most explosive kids I’ve ever wrestled. Austin Bethel Mt. Vernon 4x qualifier with wins over brayton and joe lee 3rd in d3 for Wabash freshman year and pinned #15 in country in d1 sophomore year but has battled a lot of injuries. Kyle Hatch was a 3 time placer I believe currently ranked 1st in d3 for Wabash. kid can put anyone in the country to their back
  11. Coaching at Indy nationals today and noticed SQ Brac Hooper from Carmel was wrestling and won Indy nationals after wrestling Friday night. Just thought it was awesome to see a kid going right back to work after his season was cut shorter than I’m sure he hoped. I would bet there were some others I just recognized him from one of our kids wrestling him frequently in the offseason. Kid is tough as nails and I respect him a lot for competing just after state.
  12. One thing that i heard mentioned today by another coach was that from the time kids are 6-7 years old nearly every tournament they wrestle in has wrestlebacks then they get to high school and they are no more. How does that make any sense? The reasoning basically by Bobby Cox from the article is that the goal is determining the best 14 wrestlers which doesn’t necessarily happen every year at every weight. If that’s the case why do they advance roughly 20 or so cross country runners for the post season? Especially considering last year the first place and last place at state were separated by around 4 mins. A runner was not going to cut 4 mins off their time from week to week, however a wrestler could change the outcome of a match from early in the day to late in the day. Wrestling is fundamentally different than any other sport so why is there such disagreement from the powers that be to listen to the people actually involved in the sport?
  13. It says they are eligible to weigh in but must compete in 75% of competitions. Hopefully someone can offer some insight
  14. IHSAA rules state that a wrestler has to participate in 75% of a season to be eligible for state series. The next part says unless it is waived for illness, injury, or ineligibility. If a wrestler was academically ineligible for the first half of season, but became eligible for the second half would this warrant the waiver? We are being told no and this just doesn’t make sense to me because then anyone who begins the season academically ineligible would be out for the state series even if they became eligible so what would the point of becoming eligible be if you can’t do it till halfway point of season and will be ineligible for post season. Any help is greatly appreciated!
