  2. Wow, great to see 3 Southern Indiana teams atop this list!! I am surprised to see Mt.Vernon on top, but they do have a great young team and with the freshman class they have could be a dangerous team for the next couple years. What are the odds that all 3 (MV, Memorial, and Gibson Southern) qualify for Team State next season?
  3. You are correct, but the way I took it as dog man said, they are at the top of the SIAC, last time I checked being consistently in the middle of the pack isn't at the top. Until they can consistently finish 2nd rather than one year out of 6, I won't consider them atop the SIAC. But being 4th in that conference isn't a terrible thing but also doesn't give you a reason to talk your team up. They have good INDIVIDUALS (Kelley and Kemper) and after that no one else is much of a threat just yet.
  4. That seems to be the way people at Central think. They are an improved program but still the consistency of a program like MD, Castle, and Memorial isn't there nor do I think it will ever be there with that they have.
  5. Yes I'll agree they have a few individuals (Kelley and Kemper) who will make a deep run at State. But those two don't make up the entire team. I do believe Castle and Memorial both beat them in a dual and also in the SIAC tournament, Reitz is out of the picture, they are down and will be for awhile, but from the looks of TEAM results not a few individuals, Central hasn't passed Memorial and Castle.
  6. I'm sorry but finishing 2nd one year in the last 6 is not moving up.
  7. 1. Micic to me is the favorite given his credentials and national ranking, but Lee isn't your ordinary freshman, he has traveled all over the world finding the best competition possible to prepare him for a match like Micic. It would not be a surprise to see Lee win this matchup. 2. Although Mt Vernon isn't a "powerhouse" they are a strong steady program that in the past 5-7 years have always put out strong teams both at the middle school and high school levels along with a established feeder program that Konrath came out of I believe. They have young coaches who put a lot of time into the program to get it where it is today. I'm sure Konrath could go anywhere he wanted, but I think he'll do just as fine at Mt.Vernon than he would at Mater Dei, I mean he did already beat a MD kid pretty soundly. 3. Not sure on there scheduling? I don't think they go to a lot of invitationals where you get 8-10 matches in a weekend on a Friday/Saturday. 4. I think Nawl is the clear favorite, being a senior returning SS Qualifier going up against a Freshman, I'm going to go with Nawl. Schaefer is solid but still don't think he is on that level yet as I watched him struggle with a Tell City kid at the Sectional. Could be a good match though that if Nawl isn't ready then Schaefer could pull the upset.
  8. Will have my picks up later in the week, but glancing through the brackets the best "ticket round" matches at each weight to get to Semi-State would be.... 106 Nawl vs Schaefer...Nawl has the experience but don't count out Schaefer who benefits from a great practice room 113 Horty vs Matherly...believe Matherly won this at SIAC, but like at 106 Horty has great practice partners and coaching staff 120 Keller vs Burke...two Sophomores looking to get to SS, believe Burke won a close 1 point match in the season over Keller 126 Baehl vs Hemmings...toss-up, Baehl is well coached and will give Hemmings all he wants as its the Seniors last chance to get to SS Willis vs Wargel...I don't know if Willis can match Wargel's strength, Wargel gave Bethel all he wanted 132 Suar vs Todrank...shouldn't be close, but Suar is a returning SS qualifier who could make an upset here. 138 Baehl vs Petrig...Petrig sounds like the favorite as he has wrestled well the past 2 weekends Dixon vs Allen...I'd say Dixon as he has great practice partners, and Boonville wrestlers don't perform well this time of year 145 Farmer vs Smith...Did these two see each other at SIAC??? I know Smith sat out against Castle in there dual meet... 152 Wilson vs Naylor...Wilson had a huge win over Miller from HH in the semis at sectionals to upset the 1 seed to give himself this great draw. 160 Stotlar vs McDaniel...Is McDaniel healthy? Jeffress vs Martin...Jeffress has the better practice room and coaching staff, but don't count out Martin 170 Shaw vs Taylor...toss-up? 182 Wallace vs Huelsing...toss-up? 195 Orth vs Newton...Newton has had a good year in his first year back, but has had a few bad losses of late and never count out a MD wrestler Jefferson vs Lamar...Jefferson stepped up this time of year last year, can he do it again? 220 Kyles vs Butler...Two giants going at it Choate vs Lytle...Choate has had some big wins this year over Barnes, Jefferson, JC kid, but does he have one more in him? 285 Any of them could get either way I feel.
  9. Well congrats that would make him the favorite to win it this weekend, but I don't think that Farmer, Jochim, and Whoberry are just going to lay down for him, I would think anyone of those four could win it.
  10. Well according to the MD Holiday Classic bracket, Williams only beat Whoberry 4-0, pretty far from a pin. I think that weight is wide open and there is no clear favorite.
  11. I definitely didn't mean that Petrig can't repeat his performance from last weekend...I just meant it would've been better that he had that great of a weekend at the Sectional so it sets himself up for a easy first round Regional match and get him a higher seed for Semi-State. But now if that woke up Schnell and he comes back to beat Petrig it just makes for a tougher match to get to Semi-State, assuming he can get past Allen. Either way, 138 this weekend and next weekend should be pretty entertaining with any of those guys able to win it.
  12. Hopefully ASAP, they always are one of the last Sectionals to get there brackets out.
  13. I think Petrig peaked a week early, impressive performance as he has always been close to breaking out and beating a tough kid, but I feel like he did a week to soon. Castle does a great job of coming back from a loss, and this is Schnell's time of year and I think he takes Petrig this time around and going forward into Regionals. Petrig will have a tough match in the Semis with Allen who has already beaten Petrig to my knowledge. Should be a good weight class as Schulz from HH is no push over either and he could pull an upset as well. But my prediction is Schnell, Allen, Petrig, Schulz
  14. I think its very important to have some good competition throughout the season. If you blow through everybody and get to Semi-State and you haven't been challenged, and find yourself in the ticket round in a close match, you may not know how to respond. Hard matches throughout the season that may be losses will prepare you for that one match at the end of the season to possibly get you to Semi-State or State.
  15. Couldn't have said it any better! 106 is going to be exciting to watch up at State this year. Any of those guys you mentioned plus a few more have a legitimate shot at winning a State Title.
  16. Konrath isn't in the SIAC, why are you bringing his name up on this topic?? But for discussion, I think any smart wrestling fan knows that Egli could beat Konrath at any time. I don't think nobody is saying Egli isn't good, he has beaten some tough kids this year, but for Konrath to handle him the way he did says a lot about Konrath.
  17. Pretty solid picks. I personally would love to see the Bethel/Schitter match.
  18. I personally could careless if someone were to FF to a good kid, us fans don't know what the coaches reasoning is for sitting his kid. Maybe he is sick? Hurt? We don't know nor will we probably ever know. That's the coaches decision not us fans. Maybe Mt.Vernon felt like wrestling there first or second year (JV) kid against a state ranked kid wouldn't benefit them. More power to Central for sending there kid out against Konrath. Not sure he learned anything from it other than how to take a beat down? Looking back on previous posts by some of "formerchamp" it appears it is Anthony Williams who does coach at Central well I think? He seems to bounce back and forth between schools. I think he was at Harrison last year? Just not professional like for a coach to call out a school on here, like Hook and Half said he should've approached the Mt.Vernon coach to get his reasoning for not sending anyone out against Kelley or Kemper. Just my opinion, everyone has there own, but I personally don't see the big deal about it.
  19. This could be one of if not the weakest Sectionals in the State. Jasper should dominate this Sectional year in and year out and get all 14 through almost every year. Southridge this year might be a close 2nd and challenge Jasper for the title.

  21. I wasn't going to post because I don't have a dog in this fight, but first off I personally don't disagree with either side here, but I can see both teams arguments...if you have a wrestler in that weight yes he should wrestle, BUT I do believe Mt.Vernon's 152 and 160 are both either first or second year kids, and it doesn't look like they have anybody behind them, so they are Varsity by default, I do think they have Hoehn around there somewhere, but I haven't seen his name anywhere this year, assuming he is injured. If Mt.Vernon had anyone else there, those two kids probably wouldn't be Varsity, so Mt.Vernon is really sending two kids out each match that honestly should be a JV kid on most teams. I find it hard to believe that guys like Kelley and Kemper who are highly state ranked are going to benefit from wrestling a JV caliber kid. I don't see why Central's coaches would get on here bashing Mt.Vernon for not wrestling there two "studs" saying they have no cajones? I personally don't think Kelley or Kemper whipping up on some first year kid from Mt.Vernon is going to benefit them. I could be wrong though, I usually am. Good Luck to all wrestlers this weekend at the SIAC, Big 8, and PAC.
