  1. You have about 30 minutes to register for the Seymour Slam! We have a great cross-section of wrestlers from different areas. 2. Bentz, I had nothing to do with the disappearance of your Regional trophy!
  3. Thanks to the ISWA, Franklin Community, coaches, officials, volunteers for making an event like this happen. We had a great time interacting with the different teams. I believe that some of our youth and parents are now hooked on wrestling after this weekend. There is no other sports community like wrestling. Glad to be a part of it! Eric, We left our Seymour banner in the bleachers by mat 1 where we were sitting most of the day. If someone finds it would you call me? (812) 525-7304
  4. I love the idea of a 'Parade of Teams'! Great opportunity for a photo too. Justin Ratliff
  5. I saw a post last night from Willie Saylor saying that Chad Red scratched for the Super 32 tournament? Is that true?
  6. Hopefully he take a more offensive approach. Relying on defense last year kind of bit him in the butt. He is fun to watch in the last few seconds when the score is close though.
  7. ECC is #5NC #1 Anderson #2 Seymour #3 Richmond #4

  9. I do not understand why kids would not take the opportunity to wrestle if there is an open spot. When I wrestled on Team Indiana during the Mexico trip we wrestled both Greco and Freestyle. Many of us had never even practiced Greco before. Dave Maldonado worked with me on my Greco stance right before the tournament. I think wrestling the different styles makes a well-rounded wrestler. Hopefully our FS team fares better.
  10. There were 1235 in 2014 and 1330 in 2013. Seems like a downward trend starting. I'm really going to push this harder as a club coach next year. We are a newer club so parents are still hesitant to send their kids. Hopefully that will change soon. What are some things we can do as a community to bring the involvement level up in our sport?
  11. Highjackers! There are a couple convos about Freestyle/Greco elsewhere. I do not think that the ISWA should stop doing Folkstyle. This was our 2nd year going to the state tournament and we have had great experiences. I was just wondering what we can all do at our respective levels of involvement in the wreatling community to grow this?
  12. ISWA Kids Folkstyle State Peewee-Novice 2015 818 wrestlers 2014 853 wrestlers 2013 894 wrestlers Kentucky Kids Folkstyle State had 942 kids Peewee-Novice this year.
  13. At first glance it looks like our numbers at Folkstyle State in Peewee-Novice have been down the last couple years. Why do you think this is? It has seemed like tournament numbers have been down at the local level also for the most part. Kentucky has had more youth from Peewee-Novice than Indiana in the past two years. What is going on?
  14. What if attending X number of FS/Greco RTC's and participating in 1 tournament could qualify a wrestler for state?
  15. Obviously the current way of doing things is not growing Freestyle/Greco. I'm sure that the ISWA is trying to build these styles as USAW is the governing body of Olympic wrestling. If you watch the worlds you know that we are not where we should be. We produce athletes but we are not at the same level as the Russians, Iranians, etc. in order to be the best something has to change. It needs to start at the grass roots level. I'm with Skinner. If this doesn't change numbers then I'm open to something else. Maybe more Freestyle/ Greco big names coming to RTCs? Something has to change at the coaches level too. Meaning, I think many coaches could care less about FS/Greco but if you can get a state title, cool! I feel like that is the attitude of many.
  16. Why do people not want to wrestle much FS/Greco? Or why do they want to only wrestle at FS/Greco state? Are their other big FS/Greco tournaments you are seeking out nationally? Sounds like people only want to wrestle Folksyle but want some FS/Greco cake too.
  17. Is Friday Night Live on for this week?
  18. This was Seymour's 2nd year for a tournament and our numbers were up. We had about 150 last year but had 202 register this year. We lost out on many Jr. High kids because we had to do it on a Saturday this year. I have wondered if the numbers were down some this year. Or could part of it be that there are more tournaments too?
  19. Thanks Stevie! This is our second year for hosting a tournament. Our first year using track. You are right. Our behind the scenes people were key. We wanted to give the kids a big tournament feel with the full mats and our facility. We plan on making it better and better. Thanks to all of the teams who came out for an awesome day of wrestling!
  20. Thanks beast! We had a lot of great help. Thanks to all the teams that participated. I'm looking forward to just attending tourneys now!
  21. I think it also depends on the kid. My oldest has been crazy about it from the beginning. My second son started out strong but now is wanting to back off some. Now my 3 year old daughter is chomping at the bit to get out there. She gets mad at me every time we go to a tournament because she can't wrestle. We have a local rec league with our elementary schools. We allow pre-k but we give those kids/parents a grace period to see if they are really interested in it. Some kids take off, some need another year or two. Take him to matches and bring him around the wrestling room and see what happens. Good luck!
  22. Those who want to weigh in on Friday night will be able to do so from 6-8 pm. There will be a basketball game during this time. You will want to park between the football stadium and the gymnasium. You will enter through door 15. You will see a registration table with an orange pylon with SHS Wrestling on it at the door to the wrestling room. If your wrestler is weighing in on Saturday morning you will pick up your weigh in card at the entrance. You will then send them down the hall way to the left of the gym. They will come up to meet you in the stands on the other side. Parents of Peewees and nervous Bantams feel free to walk your wrestler through. Intermediate's and up should be fine. Referee's will be doing skin and nail checks during weigh in. Sadly, for you pancake lovers, we will not be serving pancakes in the morning. However, we will have some, smack yo grandma in the mouth, biscuits and gravy! Sid's Dad Wrestling Supplies will have full gear available and custom shirts being made. You can have a variety of dry fit shirts made with the tournament logo. You can also have your name put on the back and/or your placement! We are looking forward to a great tournament with great competition in the 3rd largest High School gym in the nation! There will be a lot of wrestlers competing with individuals that they usually would not get to see at most tournaments.
