  1. The international wrestling community is very confused by American folkstyle, so I don't think easier to understand if you've never seen it. I wouldn't say there is less judgement, see the posts about the subjectivity variance on stalling calls. And the last thing thing the worlld wrestling community wants to watch the top guy put the legs in and watch him ride a guy for two minutes. IMO, we need to spice some things up in Folkstyle to make it more appealing to the fan.
  2. Indiana is the only state I've ever not seen score a round. Like the round doesn't matter. What is the logic? Is someone trying to gerrymander a team state championship?
  3. Definitely. Wrestling was sleeping at the wheel. Compound it with the Vice president of Modern Pentathlon is on the 15 member board. This guy made wrestling his scapegoat to save his obscure little sport. I expect to see some heads to roll at FILA. Here's the real question- Why is there no American representation on the board? We've haven't lost the medal count since the fall of the soviet Bloc. And why is there no Russion representation? They've dominated also. Here's the question to answer and John Smith brought this up on his interview with Flowrestling. Look at the last 3 sports that have been dropped from the Olympics. Baseball, Softball and now Wrestling. These are 3 sports that the USA has dominated. This is not coincidence. There is an agenda against the United States, and wrestling is the latest victim.
  4. Fila got caught flat footed here and this is all about back room politics. The 15 member IOC executive board made some back room deals, and our wrestling leaders were sleeping and werecut out of the lobbying process. The only thing I've read about why wrestling got cut, was that it had a questionable doping policy and that the wrestling was over supported by IOC money and was not progressing. The Modern Pentathlon association VP is on the board, and he made some sweetheart deals to save their relic of a sport. This was wrestling vs Modern Pentathlon, and wrestling even know it. Note the board is made up of 8 western European members, a guy from Australia, a guy from Costa Rica, a guy from South Africa, a woman from Morroco, a guy from Singapore a guy from Chinese Tapai and Sergei Bubka from the only wrestling country Ukraine. I hope Sergei voted for wrestling. Note they list the sports the board is associated with and I saw 2 that had were fencers plus the president of the Modern Pentathlon that has fencing in it. Two were yachters and 3 played squash. Note wrestling is up against Squash to get voted back in. When was the last time you saw a Squash court, talking about a dyeing sport. I think this board is made up a bunch of rich millionaires who play their country club sports and don't give a crap about the popular sport of the common people.
  5. In the Olympic committe, Wrestling is now on the level of the sport "Wushu". What is Wushu? A sport trying to get recognized for olmpic status.
  6. This case is not about money as field hockey will not generate any more or interest than wrestling. See the quote below about the Pentathlon adovocate Antonio Smaranch Jr whose Dad was IOC president and is on the IOC board. These guys were trying to save their beloved sport "Pentathlon". This is politics, as these guys made a backroom deal to save their sport and they needed an unsuspecting target to ambush, and the wrestling community was not ready for this attack. This is a pure case of nepotism and maybe some prostitutes. Quote from Flowrestling In a single line in the AP release, and only in a few of its iterations, it was noted that the pentathlon’s chief advocate was none other than Juan Antonio Samaranch, Jr., the son of the former IOC President who still serves as a IOC board member.
  7. Instead of bribing the IOC members with cash, hookers and fine spirits and a resulting anonymous vote, maybe it would be fairer to put the name of each sport on a little ball and then put it in a bag, and have the IOC president pull a ball out of the bag. Then that sport is cut. Maybe the sport that provides the hottest hookers would have less balls in the bag.
  8. Also to consider, TV coverage of wrestling on the olympics is and always has been horrible. I watched a lot of olympics and only saw a brief 30 second highlight of wrestling. I did watch some on the internet, at that was the only way I could watch. Maybe it was on some obscure satelite channel. My estimate of coverage is Gymnastics -40%, Swimming 35%, Track & field 20% and other sports 7% ???. So maybe sour grapes, but the olympics is overrated.
  9. I think the crazy thing is that nobody knew wrestling was at risk from being removed. And as a result, the national wrestling community wasn't prepared to defend the sport. Looks like the "Modern pentathlon " lobbying group was able to pull a fast one. Who does modern pentathlon? The Olympic committe is the most crooked organizations out there. I speculate that there was some wining and dining, maybe a few high class hookers supplied and some under the table money given. There is no transparency in the process as it's a secret ballot. Who knows how the American rep voted.
  10. Wow thats terrible. But at least we still can watch synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics.
  11. Tough round for Crown Point losing two big hitters in the ticket round (Kral and Schurg). Probably killed their chances for team placement.
  12. Totally agree with that point. Fuqua had supporting points out of bounds for 10 seconds prior to the takedown (his whole body). Fuqua did a good job of keeping toes in, but he only had control of one leg, and for some reason the referee forgot what the definition of what out of bounds was. After an eternity of wrestling out of bounds, Fuqua finally grabbed the second leg. I think the gravity of the situation got to the ref and he froze on his whistle. Thank god he had the experience and wisdom to ask the assistant referee. Just because a kid is an undefeated state champ, doesn't mean he should gets special treatment on calls.
  13. Compromising the Purdue Womens and Mens basketball schedule might be the biggest challenge.
  14. Yea. "Warm up area" was a big problem for the Big 10 wrestlers.
  15. That would be a waste of gas, becausue they're going to be there a while.
  16. Counter points: 1. Theres a big difference between a weight class and a school classification by size. If football players are classified as positions like QB and lineman, but they still have classes. I don't understand your point. 2. Everybody understands all semi-states are not equal and it is impossible to get the top 16 wrestlers to the state. But then is it ok not to get the four best wrestlers out of the semi-state. Lets not bring the 1, 2 and 4th and 6th wrestlers to state as what commonly happens now. Thats something you can control, lets get it right up to that point. Note California has a gigantic one class tournament, and they've found a way for wrestlebacks. 3. Yea Friday night matches are exciting. Consolation finals ticket round would be just as exciting. I've been to 5 other state tournaments, and everybody loves the ticket round which is consolation finals everyhwere else. 4. No wrestlebacks at sectionals- Lets take something away we do right. So you really think the seeding process is accurate. You alway have the kid with good record and weak schedule getting the better seed than (tough schedule/average record). 5. Only 3 come out of regional- Then only 12 wrestlers go to semi-state and four guys get byes. Lets cut more wrestling out of our tournament. 6. Wreslebacks after first round- Lets get consistent and run a full tournament. I been involved in wrestling in a few different states, I've never heard or have seen on a board the argument to eliminate wrestle backs.
  17. I agree that is a weak argument, "because its so exciting". In both formats, you have a ticket round. In the current format its the first round, in the wrestlebacks its the consolation semi-finals. Both rounds are equally exciting. One exception to the wrestelback format, you're more likely to have the two deserving/skilled wrestlers in the match.
  18. The NAIA also uses the true fourth for qualifying for the national wrestling tournament. As to qualify, you have to place in top four at a tournament. I think the true 2nd, 4th or 6th are used in the NCAA conference tournaments only it affects NCAA qualification based on the quota of national qualifiers for that weight class. This was done a couple of times at the Big 10 tournament last year at Purdue.
  19. Coach, You missed my point. I said they shake hands at the end of the game n baseball. They don't do it every inning in baseball and they don't do it at every change over in tennis.
  20. I thought the point of wreste backs is to make the kids earn it, instead of giving a gift through a lucky draw. And what about the red states that have wrestle backs?
