  1. Here's thread to Kansas fourm. http://www.usawks.com/forums/ubbthreads.php
  2. Wow, just one person voted for it. Indiana will always be Indiana. People are way to stuck on the status quo.
  3. The old not scoring in the first round always baffled me. Its like you make it through sectionals, regionals and its like you're first round match at SS and state didn't mean anything. Come on, who pass a rule like that anyway.
  4. You make a statistical point, but I totally disagree with the premise. I think top 25 in wrestling, football, basketball or any college sport albeit baseball, tennis and swimming is comparably as difficult to achieve. IMO and reality, in football theres only a percentage of FBS schoools that have the resources and recruiting capability to consistently compete for a top 25 spot. I would say that number is approximately 50 schools that have a realistic chance. The other 70+ schools try and on exception put a team together, but they reallly are not competing at the same level of the major schools. Basketball might have a handful of more schoools that compete, but I would only say 60 to 70 schools have resources to compete for top 25. Wrestling is the same, only approximately 50 schools have resources to realistically compete for top 25 just like Football. The established programs have a monopoly and respectively recruit the talent. I think for Purdue to break into the top 5 in wrestling would be an amazing feat but not reallistic. Put it into a numbers perspesctive, how many times have they done that in history of purdue wrestling? Im going to speculate they never have finished in top 5. Only 25 different wrestling programs have finished in the top 5 in the last 40 years, that doesnt include Purdue. Wrestling is so monopolized, its very difficult to break through the ceiling. Dont take that top 25 ranking for granted.
  5. You can say what you want about Hinkel and not recruiting, but if the Purdue Basketball or Football coach had their team in the top 25 four out of five years, they would be getting 6 figure bonuses.
  6. Wrestling success if definitely is definitely related to the coaching, involvement and tradition as you call it. A lot of it comes down to growing up in the right community. But there also is a wrestling gene some kids have. But the's problem is that are a lot of these kids out there that grow up in community that doesnt have wrestling support or coaching.
  7. So would he have been happier winning a state tournament this was classed than not winning a state title at all in Indiana? Just to clarify, even though Nick Borta was a great wrestler, he falls into the category of the 3600 kids a year that tried to win the state title and didnt.
  8. Ok, I wasnt up on the facts. I just assumed that he won a title when it when Swain 358 said he wouldnt of been happy with a classed title. Why would you use somebody as an example that wouldnt be happy about about winning a non-classed title when they didnt even win a classed title.
  9. Of course thats easy to say about Borta, because he won it. He's almost the prototypical hoosier, the guy from the middle size school who rose to beat the big guys. It would be perfect if he was from Milan high school. So everybody loves that guy, that overcame the odds. He can say if I can do it, anybody can do it. How about the "Borta" equivalent from Oklahoma, Colorado, Oregon, Virginia, Michigan, (other 40 states with class wrestling). When they walk off the state champ stand, do they say " Im not as happy because this is a classed individual title". Do they smile a little less and do a shorter victory dance. Does their metal have an asterisk on it? Does their picture say good job bust "classed". Ill bet you a 1000 dollars they dont do this.
  10. Y2, How many 1A schools have dropped wrestling in the last two years? Instead of focusing on the Adam Central and Churubusco's, maybe we should look what the system did for these dead programs.
  11. I agree. Dont give up on the education as wrestling scholarships, and especially D1 college scholarships are so scarce. Compared to other sports, wrestling has the highest ratio of high school athlets to college athletes. Its something like 30:1. Title IX has eliminated so many programs. Also, most people don't know that most of the Big Ten wrestlers are on partial scholarships. D1 schools only give out 9.9 scholarships. So do the math, you have 10 starters and 30 guys in the room, that equals a lot partials. The good news is the NAIA is seeing somewhat of a revival. Around 10 years ago, NAIA was down to 30 schools with wrestling, now they are closer to 50 programs. I think these schools have figured out that theres a lot kids that still want to continue, and they can offer partial scholarships to make them comparable or even less expensive than going to state schools. Its really a good opportunity for some kids to continue wrestling.
  12. This describes ISHSAA logic. If you dont have a basketballback, a footballback, a tennisback or even a softballback, why would you have a wrestleback?
  13. Im amazed at some of the talented freshman kids stepping in. Im sure there's a lot of coaches that arent complaining about having state level freshman walk into their lineup. Most of the top teams are surrounded by top level clubs. But maybe this is not coincidence as I bet top high school coaches are involved with the devolopment of the clubs.
  14. That's funny. You have about 100 teams going to the ironman and from about 20 different states, and they have no problem seeding it. You use criteria like retuning champ or placer. Even things like state placer or national placement are seeding criteria. Like Troll said you also have winning percentage.
  15. Angola could go to Memphis, TN close to 1300 miles round trip.
  16. Is it 300? I could be wrong. Probably takes 10 of those teams of the list.
  17. I understand the 400 mile travel rule. But theres some really good teams within 400 miles of Indiana that might want to come to Indiana if they had a good reason to. For example Intermat fab 50 teams that could travel to Ind: Oak Park River Forest (1), St Paris Graham(2), Franklin Regional (7), Southeast Polk (8), St Edward (15), Montini Catholic (16), Apple Valley(17), Carl Sandburg (19), bettendorf, IA (20), Glenbard North (21), Massilon Perry (22), Lowell, Mi (25), Brecksville, OH (26), Delta, OH (30), Cumberland Va, PA (31), Belle Vernon, PA (34), Dayton Christion, Oh (36), Greater Latrobe, PA (38), Elyria, Oh (42), Kaukauna, WI (43), Marmion Academy (44), Brighton, MI (45), St JOhns, MI (47), North Allegany, PA (50). Also, I would say Indiana likes keeping everything Indiana based, so Im not surprised by that statement. Why not try to compete against the best. Where's this Steel Sharpens Steel mentality I hear people talk about on this forum.
  18. It think it would be a good idea to open the Al Smith up to some prestigous out of state nationally ranked teams. Due to the quality of the competition, I think this could draw some of the good teams out of IL, OH, MI, WI etc.. Since our travel restrictions dont let our good teams travel, lets bring them here to Indiana. Maybe some of our teams would get more national ranking consideration.
  19. Sound a little sensitive. Did i hit a nerve. I Dont think I was the only one that posted this. I just said it was a fast count. Osborne wrestled well and was deserving. Wasn't trying to take anything away from his accomplishment. In my experience, its not unusual to have a close call go your way when you win a championship.
  20. There was some adults in the section near me in the upper level that were booing the Cash win. I thought ironic they were booing a pin call in the upper section. I couldn't resist and had to say it was a good call. Of course some adult lady told me to F_ _ _ off. Real classy. I guess I dont know what school they were from for sure, but they didn't stick around and left right after the Cash vs Lee match. Must of had a long drive home not to stick around to see the rest of the finals.
  21. What. I might disagree with that statement along with a big chunk of the other 10,500 fans
  22. Im a Tommy Cash fan know He's an exciting wrestler and knows how to cash in on his opportunities. Great job.
