  1. Not to turn this thread into a riding time debate but... I love riding time; I think it makes matches more interesting. Furthermore, I find that it is less often that you find guys taking a rest on bottom. When going back to watch high school wrestling, after watching a lot of college wrestling, it is often frustrating to watch a kid rest on bottom for almost a whole period only to escape in the final seconds of a period when he finally makes an effort to escape. In my opinion, the top wrestler should be rewarded for his riding efforts and the bottom wrestler should be punished for his laziness.
  2. Wow, good point. He is too good to be left off of that list. He certainly makes my list!
  3. Carmel (just off the top of my head) John Kopnisky- State Champ Todd Wright- State Champ Mike Dee- State Champ Chris Mascaro- State Runner-up Will Mascaro- 3rd-place as senior, 2x placer, 3x qualifier
  4. This is a well thought out post and raises some good points. As wrestlers, I think we often identify with being humble in regards to our holistic sport identity; we don't get the fame and publicity of football or other major sports. However, we take pride in this. Wrestling, training, and all that goes into it is done purely for the love of the sport. I am not saying that wrestlers cannot celebrate when they win; this is an intense, personal, and emotional sport. I have celebrated after some wins; I hope never to a level that was deemed unsportsmanlike by anyone. I think to some people celebrating could be seen as contradiction to the humility that our sport identifies with. I think there is a place for celebrating, but at some point there has to be a line drawn. As to who draws that line, that is a whole separate debate...
  5. Those aren't high school events. Apparently this is an IHSAA decision.
  6. That's the truth, with some cheese on it! See what I did there?
  7. A pricey joint, I went there for graduation, but Fogo de Chao is hard to beat. I mean all you can eat fine quality steak is never a bad meal.
  8. Will there be a pick 'ems contest this year for the semi-states?

  11. My 2 cents worth on this... 1) Five minute matches are not a good thing; I think far too often we see a wrestler hang on for a close loss or find a win that he would not earn in a 6 minute match. A one minute first period throws off the pace of the match IMO. 2) As a college wrestler I can say that the college out of bounds rules are infinitely better than the high school out of bounds rules. It encourages more action and it is much harder for someone to play the edge. I also think that this would speed up the time to complete matches because there is less going out of bounds which requires a stoppage of the action.
  12. Any updates? They would be greatly appreciated!
  13. Peoria, IL Duals Round 1: W, 43-19 vs Washington (ranked #4 in 2A) Round 2: L, 3-63 vs Oak Park River Forest (ranked #1 in 3A and ranked #2 in the country) Round 3: W, 36-19 vs Minooka (ranked #9 in 3A) Carmel finished in 3rd place out of 8 teams. 2-1 record on the day. Greyhounds are now 5-1 on the season.
  14. Indeed he is a red-shirt, but that is not the same thing as a true sophomore. I understand it is the same age, but it is not the same number of years of eligibility. Hence, if someone wins as a freshman, red-shirt or not, they have the possibility of winning four titles. Where as someone who wins their first title as a sophomore could only win three titles.
  15. After Maple's loss yesterday, he has now lost three times this year all to different opponents, to Kindig of Oklahoma State and Tsirtsis continuing to climb the rankings you have to think Tsirtsis is capable of winning a title this year. Has an Indiana wrestler ever won an NCAA title as a Freshman?
  16. Carmel 53 Lebanon 24
  17. I would just like to second Riley and say congrats to Coach McClurg; he is a great coach and I consider myself fortunate to have had him as a coach. As an alumnus I could not be more fired up about the direction that the Carmel Wrestling Program is going and Wade is certainly going to only further the growth of our program. Carmel is compiling quite the coaching between Pendoski and McClurg. There is also Coach Simon, Tom Griffin (Mount St. Joe), Donofrio (Eastern Michigan), Selvio (Wabash), and Scott Kelly (IU, and former IHSAA state champ). Thanks coaches for all that you do! GO HOUND WRESTLING!
  18. I don't think so. I know David Taylor works camps during the summer along with other collegiate wrestlers. I don't see what the issue would be, seems like a similar situation.
  19. I've heard the same, it may be true. However, I would prefer the nod to go to the wrestler whom is making an actual attempt to score. Brown was clearly that wrestler in this match.
  20. Could not agree more. Brown got robbed. That situation almost NEVER gets called stalemate.
