  1. I have a newbie wrestler who I need to find some relatively inexpensive shoes. The trick is he wears a Size 18 EE. Any ideas would be appreciates
  2. We have a wrestler who is naturally under 7% Body Fat. We got the doctor's note and he was approved at his alpha weight (112.6). So his approved weight class is 113. The kid has now had 3 weighins at 111.8, 111.9, and 111.3. Now the IHSAA is telling us that any weighin under 112.6 (even if it's in the approved weight class) is NOT a qualifying weighin. The kid is not trying to cut weight, but works out in practice, so his weight fluctuates. We were told to have the kid sit out a week so he can gain weight or just eat more. This seems crazy to me. Anyone else have a similar experience? Any insight would be most appreciated!
  3. Are any other Sectionals having issues with access to the IHSAA Alpha Master reports? While I know coaches are supposed to have those with them, we were called and told to make sure we bring our Alpha Master along with weight loss report for 3 specific kids.
  4. I'm told the kid and the coach are to wait at the contestants entrance. If a kid misses weight, the alternate and coach get the "Golden Ticket" and can enter to weigh in. Still can't understand why the IHSAA won't at least admit the Alternate and Coach comp.
  5. This is always something that interests me each season. *First, anyone know of any alternate who will be wrestling Friday Night? *Second, can anyone recall any alternates to the State Finals who have turned it around and medaled?

Why didn't 2-3-4 ove up when Hudkins went out? Did he weigh-in and then have to drop out? Wild that an alternate from Merrilvile now will now place top 8 and the original top 4 are now out!
  7. Based on the email from the IHSAA, can not go any time after Sectional starts. All-Conference would be up to each conference and how they want to decide it.
  8. IHSAA has stated in an email that once Sectionals start, you may not wrestle these anymore. Limits you to now or never. Tough situation. You don't want to jeopardize Sectional prep and you hate to have kids lose the opportunity to compete for conference titles. One other concern is for kids who have not practiced and where their weight will be when you have their conference meet.
  9. First off, IHSAA rules forbid Sunday competition. Second, I'd hate to second guess anyone who either cancels or chooses not to travel. I'd hate to have a tragedy on my conscience.
  10. Always a great meet for all wrestler (every kid get five matches-counting forfeits). Nic set up a great legacy. Does anyone have a location where I can find results?
  11. I think political pressure from the State Legislature has led to the Basketball Town Meetings.
  12. Concessions is a big deal IF your athletic department runs them. At some schools they don't. At a large arena (i.e. FW Coliseum, Conseco/Bamkers Life Arena, ect.) the vendor the arena contracts runs them and keeps profits. As for Merrillville, Janis IHSAA Board connections must be protecting this travesty of a site.
  13. I seem to recall a few years ago when the Duall Meet Team State was on the chopping block that the IHSAA offered this "proposal": Either keep the Team State Tourney as is (which was eventually done) or have wrestlebacks at all levels of the state tournament. If we are going to score each level of the State Tournament and Award Team Trophies based on that scoring, I think a case can be made for Wrestlebacks, since that will get a truer indicator of a teams strength at each weight. Does anyone else recall this past discussion? Thoughts?
  14. I'm having a hard time seeing how a kid from an "Elite" program can get "extra" matches that a good kid from an average program will not get. It seems to me that this could really make the rich richer and the poor poorer. On top of all that, what real meaning will a mid-season tournament have? So you're the best at mid-year; isn't the point to peak at the end at Conseco/Banker's Life?
  15. Will this tournament count as two (since tourney's count 2) of the 18 max. weigh-in for the season? If it does, how will team schedules adjust on the fly? If it doesn't, I see this becoming a distinct advantage for wreestlers on the teams that particpate since they will get up to three matches against most likely excellent competition that will not count against their season limit. Thoughts?
  16. With the public/private debate raging on other sport board's (and here - Mater Dei) just a quick question, where is she from? It seems in the past a number of their football players came from all over the nation and the world. Mainly just curious where this private school wrestler is from?
  17. At an Awards program in my youth (while I was still in college), I was addressing the group about the differences my team found out (this was the first junior high team ever at our school). I had this speech all written out ahead of time, but maybe I should have someone proofread it for me? I told the people that I had to explain to the kids that wrestling had no goal posts, wrestling had no bats, wrestling had no baskets, in fact "Wrestlers have no balls". Momentary pause and then it went wild! I wanted to crawl under a rock. My youngest brother was there and he thought the best part was watching a female friend of his explaining what happened to other females at the program. Fortunately people had a sense of humor!
  18. Fairfield was not invited back after Dec. 2009. Told they were looking for bigger schools and better competition?!?
  19. Again to reinterate, they got rid of some teams a couple of years ago to get better competition. Not sure that makes sense?? I also wonder why would a team want to put up their Varsity against a Penn or Mishawaka reserve team? Won't help your record, only be using your kids to help build up the reserve kids for Penn/Mishawaka. In addition, you are limited to 18 dates, why waste those on some other schools JV, that won't count towards a thing?? Personally this appears to be the big schools pushing around the small schools, again!!
  20. Will kids records against Penn Varsity 2 (JV) count? We wrestled out of state against some JV kids as part of a Varsity Tourney and were told those records can not be included in our Varsity records. Also, I know Penn dropped some Varsity teams two years ago to "toughen" up the competition. So I would say they chose not to bring in another Varsity team.
  21. Intersting that they have a JV Team in there?? Couldn't (or wouldn't) get another Varsity team to come??
  22. This has to do with Title IX. Back in the 1970's SB Adams won a State Volleyball Title with boys. With Title IX in full force soon after this fell apart, since women are the "underrepresented sex," they may play on Boys teams, but not vice versa. I have coached boys who wrestled girls, and while I don't think it's appropriate, I've left that decision up to the athletes and his parents. I agree with those who say boys wrestle boys, girls wrestle girls. I just don't think pubescent kids need to be grappling each other.
  23. Help me out a little - where can you find out how to do matside pairings? I'm talking about the how to's.
