  1. This is wonderful information! I am glad to hear about it. Maybe next season we can join up.
  2. Looks like he would be great at Greco.
  3. Took a middle school team to Michigan for what was labeled as a 'triple dual- round robin.' Boy, Michigan is doing some cool experiments with pairings and not just in myway. They are doing it at the middle and high school level too. With email had every coach provide a weight & place his wrestlers in 1 of 3 categories: advanced, medium or beginner. They told us to bring the whole team, not just our varsity. The assistant coach from the home team paired all advanced wrestlers into groups of 4 , medium into groups of 4 and beginners into groups of 4. Three mats divided down the middle to create 6 surfaces. Two real officials & 4 coaches served as refs. All my guys got in three matches in just under 1 hour and 20 minutes. Pretty cool.
  4. That is a terribly sad situation. I feel awful for the family and will be praying for them.
  5. Darrick, my son was registered for your tourney in January that was snowed out. He weighed in and paid at Mishawaka HS prior to the event. Will HYWAY be adding online registration for the upcoming Mishawaka tournament soon? Will weigh ins be on Thursday March 3rd at Mishawaka and what time? It does not say on the web site and we cannot satelite weigh in because we are just in Elkhart. Do we tell somebody at weigh ins that we already paid?
  6. Just when I thought the IHSAA couldn't get anymore stupid....
  7. Is this a serious comment? Or a playful joke? I don't see why one would insult Jimtown for trying to utilize a proven method of faster and more reliable pairings, that many other states and organizations use.
  8. Who won the Coaches Trophy this year? Or are we not giving that out because of the whole Bobby Cox/IHSAA/Team State vs. Individual State issue?
  9. Thank you Coach Kern for using matside pairings. It will help and we like being on the same mat all day. Please consider next year implementing a staggered start time for the younger vs. older age groups.
  10. Did Goldman's father get to watch the title match in person? I know IU wrestled Purdue on Saturday.
  11. I would love two *exemption* weight classes in wrestling: a 103 lbs. and Unlimited (285+). Both these weights would be forfeit exempt in a dual meet if a team failed to have a contestant. They also would be exempted from team scoring in a tournament. NFHS would never, ever go for this, although.
  12. Can't believe nobody has mentioned Lance Ellis at Roncalli.
  13. All excellent suggestions. Probably will be t-shirts. However, I would place Coaches Brad Harper & Darrick Snyder on the cover. Just a little extra love tweak for old Bobby Cox.
  14. Coach, is this specifically for Cadets and Juniors? Schoolboys?
  15. I started to post this question: Whatever happened to the old Indiana Grappler magazine? That was a pretty cool publication back in the day. Especially before the internet came around. I am guessing it existed from the late 1980s until the mid 1990s. I still have several old issues at home. I think some guy out of Bloomington used to print it. Last I recall, they changed the name from the Indiana Grappler to the American Grappler and started a fledgling web site around 1996. But then I moved out of the state and lost track. Then I searched the web site and found this answer from TheAncientElder: The Indiana Grappler/The American Grappler: The paper/magazine was published from 1989 to 1998. The last issue was the September 1998 issue. It started out as The Indiana Grappler, in paper form, in 1988/89. It changed to a magazine for the September 1991 issue. The name was changed to The American Grappler starting with the September 1994 issue. Great magazine but cost and the Internet finally did it in. It did the rankings on a monthly basis. The founder/publisher was Rick Chitwood. Rick wrestled for Columbus North HS and was a state qualifier at HWT in 1980. He was related to all of the Chitwoods that wrestled for Bloomington/Bloomington South. He received the IHSWCA Media award at the IHSWCA Hall Of Fame banquet in 1992. Rich also received several national awards for the magazine and for his photography. ***It might be tough to do this because of copyright, but it would be cool to have a section on Indianamat.com with all that old data. There are some great articles and interesting people ranked in the old prep power polls. Plus, I think it would be good if today's wrestlers could read that stuff.****
  16. Agreed. I think the separation of ISWA champs will be a nice improvement.
  17. On the ISWA web site for folkstyle state it says: Pairing Line Bracketing will be used (See separation criteria) However, I don't see anything on the pdf saying what separation criteria is to be use. Sorry if I missed it. Does anyone know want the criteria will be?
  18. Personally, I say pinning your way through. The ultimate goal of a wrestling match is the pin. Although, I think smart people can disagree on this issue.
  19. How is Kieffer doing? Looked like he was pretty badly hurt. Not that it was intentional or poor sportsmanship. Congrats to Jared.
  20. Congrats to Harvey! He worked hard and won. And let's face it, there is a different strategy at HWT. If you mess up a TD, having 285 lbs coming down on you is a big problem. However, I agree probably at least one stall warning was in order. Howe was clearly aggressive. This is why I say remove penalty points for stalling. Instead, any stalling call should result in an immediate choice for the opponent of top, bottom or neutral. Then the wrestlers get to decide the outcome and not an official awarding stall points.
