  1. ;D rephrase .... all coaches can act a little like a lawyer now and then!!!! Jimtown Jimmy that was a good one!!!!
  2. Your not wrong Walter your just an @#$%e. !!!! On the other side of the equation... what coach in his right mind wouldn't put up a fight for his kid to have the best chance. Its not hideing behind something it is taking a tactical advantage. All good wrestling coaches have a little lawyer in them trying to build the best case for their kid at a seeding meeting and they are all competitive and don't want to give an inch.... many tournaments are won in lost in the seed meeting!!! The Dude Abides!!!
  3. It all shakes out in the end. Best statement so far. Best time of year, second best statement!!
  4. You need to push the issue with the AD it is not IHSAA policy several sectional and regionals give out wall charts to winners.
  5. Wrestle backs, now that is an idea. I heard the reason we don't have wrestle backs and go to one mat for finals is that Saturday is Shabbas
  6. I wanted to generate some conversation on this trend. Midlands does a multi mat finals and many sectionals, regionals and Semi-States do as well. What are some pros/cons on this idea? Keep fan base for entire finals... parents and fans of third/fifth place finishers stay to watch Day ends quicker.... good for referees and fans What else do you think about this trend.... does it lessen the spotlight for champions? Dude
  7. To a Ref this weekend... You can't call them for stalling, they're not stalling they are just that inexperienced!!! They don't even know how or when to stall!

  9. Thacker from Bloomington S. is ranked at 182 but was at 195. Is this the plan for him the rest of the season? Dude
  10. My mistake was thinking Mauer lost to an out of state kid, how could I forget about that controversial match with Cooper. Must have been to worried about the amphibias rodent!! I didn't forget how good Macke was... said I would give it to him and I did. He was a STUD!!! I gave Nosko a major not sure if he could work a fall here, but that is just like my opinion man. - Agreed Wildeman was a brute, I think Johnson could keep it close, he would work the edge not to give up and big takedowns and score when he had the opportunity. Again, this is a hypothetical something to generate talk on a message board. no disrepect to either, man this one would be fun to watch IMO!!! Lot of ins and outs and what have yous on this one. Fun to think about. congrats to both programs, I would think most coaches aspire to put together line ups like these. Donte pins yet again that is just my opinion man!! The Dude Abides
  11. I would compare them but someone might criticize me for comparing apples to oranges or watermelon to cantelope or zucchini to cucumbers!! But that never stops the dude so I am going to anyway.... obviously there are different weight classes this year than 2003 so that throws the Duder a problem.... 106: Bittner was tough, but just don't think he would hang with Cottey 3 for perry 113: Again James is too fast even for the Mater Dei Mojo 120: If Hildebrand was at 120 have to go again with perry, but whos to say Macke would not cut down? 126: If Macke is at 126 have to go with him on this one unless McKinley is down to this weight... then who knows? 132: Coughlin for sure... I know I know state champ in 11, but Coughlin was National champ sorry southsiders 138: Aaron Scott lost to Angel right? Is Bova an Angel No way, but could pull it out.. this would be a barn burner 145: This actually helps MD takes one of their non state qualifiers out of line up and keeps a state champ in... I like the McClug kid but he is no Weinzapafel 152: Again State Champ for MD wow sorry Falcons 160: WHEW!! This would be a great match up... I have seen Captain Kirk really grow up and he is on a mission. He would keep it close and win I believe 5-2. Two takedowns one escape vs. two escapes. 170: Sorry Massengale, I think you have great skill, but NOBODY ever beat Mauer in high school in this state. 182: Jason Coughlin I think would have cut down here, not 100% certain. He was a wild card. If he was on his A game could've beat most people, unfortuatley he wasn't on his A game enough tough call but I think PM in this one, close match and then he catches MD in head lock for the pin 195: If memory serves me correctly I think MD had a decent 215 behind Unfried and I believe Goebel would have motivated him to cut down to 195, would've help MD Unfried might have cut down also either way MD 220: Toss up match IMO... but Unfried was in great shape and wins in OT 285: Pin by Perry. Final Score MD 30- Perry 25... Can't believe my first thoughts were against one of my favorite teams in the state. I may have to ponder this for a while lots of information in Duder's head right now!! The Dude Abides
  12. Some of these kids are fragile Walter, very fragile! Kinda like some of the posters on this board!!! :'(
  13. Kevin: An apple is a fruit.... an orange is a fruit.... moving your fastest reciever into the slot to get a match up against a slower linebacker= Strategy: moving a kid up or down in the lineup, giving a FF to a stud= Strategy. So I guess comparing the strategies for different sports can be like comparing apples to oranges.... proper netiquite Questioning the integrity of coaches simply because it does not fit into the grand scheme of how to help your son (who by the way is on another team) and then not signing your name, now that is the pot calling the kettle black!! Bottom line, the opposing coach is not a stakeholder in the development of your son... get over it and take it as a compliment that someone dodged him... I am the dude, you know so that is what you call me, that or his dudeness, or duder or el-duderino!!! The dude Abides!!!!
  14. Its a complicated case Kevin... lots of ins and outs and what have yous... obviously you don't understand. Dude
  15. At least it wasn't an Eagles guitar player... I hate the eagles man!!!! Good one Thornton!!! Good luck and if all else fails you can hit them over the head with the guitar!! The Dude Abides
  16. Jimtown I beg to differ man.... the idea of strategy is strategy... a coach can move a guy around in football to get better matchups for his team just as he can adjust his lineup to get better matchups in wrestling... or even avoid giving the other team momentum by getting a pin or big win... don't kid yourself momentum in wrestling can be a factor!! I guess you and Charger have the strategy that you put your line up out there an wish for the best... so it is not apple and oranges it is the idea that a coach can strategize no matter what sport. The Dude abides
  17. Charger dad... yeah and football teams should only allow kids to play the position they are on the roster ... no moving kids around.. listed as left guard, stay at left guard... listed at running back leave them there... no strategy involved in trying to get a win... (sarcasm in case you couldnt understand)
  18. This could be a great test for Perry. The Rebels are very well coached and have some great athletes. I still have to give the Edge to the Falcons for my prediction, but that is just like my opinion man! The Rebels have a coaching staff that works just as hard as any other coaching staff in the state. Good luck to both teams!!! The Dude Abides
  19. I am usually into pacifism, but since you have invited me into a debate Fruit Smoothy 34 flavors, I'll play along. To answer your question directly, no. Obvioulsy I don't know every coaches day to day schedule. I understand some coaches teach a full load of classes everyday and then show up to practice for another 3-4 hours. Obviously putting in some 60-80hours a week with their job... I also understand that some coaches are lay coaches and work all day and then go to practice and sometimes go back to work to finish the hours they missed while at practice. However, everytime I am at a wrestling meet in the off season, I see the PM staff there. Including the day after they won the High School state championship. I see several other coaches there as well, but none seem as involved or intense as that staff. Get online and check out the practice schedule for the Perry Meridian club and high school. Pretty amazing how many different practices are going on. I know they have lots of parents who help, but I also know that many nights that coaching staff is present and working with all ages. I challenge you to find a coaching staff that works as hard as they do, not just putting in hours, but actually getting on the mat showing technique, being in the corner of all age group of kids so many days of the year. Then if you can do that, find a staff that does more. I am confident you wont be able to find one. To all the other coaches reading this... don't take offense I in no way intended to offend or accuse you of not giving all you have and working hard. coaching is perhaps the toughest gig in our society. So hats off to you. I was trying to give some recognition to a great coaching staff and ole boy fruitsmoothy34 had to weigh in with some sarcasm. Dude
  20. Not a coaching staff in the state that works harder. This will be one of those years where a team can win the state title either way.... Dual or Tournament format. Center grove a solid team/program and is still not in their league this year. WOW!!
  21. It seems to be a complicated case, lots of ins and outs and what have yous..... but Brokal was hired as head coach at OV and now his son wrestles for Bloomington south.... he had run the cyclone club for several years and was the middle school coach so something caused a riff between him and the school, maybe he was never hired or maybe he was let go or resigned but obviously he got fed up with OV and moved on as did his son. In the long run it will be a better move for the wrestler, better program, better coaching and much better competition. Maybe the panther staff has better realator on staff and more job opportunites than Yorktown? ;D(Just kidding here, couldnt resist) ;D My guess would be that OV signed off on the kid or they moved for him to start at one school and then be eligible to compete this year. Dude
  22. coach brown, who have you wrestled? 4-0 great start for a freshman. how has the rest of your line up faired so far? The dude abides!!
