The 1-1-1 format was like another match. No sudden death or so on. At the end of first 1 they’d flip the disk and you’d go from there. I believe there was only one year where they had referees decision which was in fact 1990. I lost in sectional finals that year on a referees decision. Score was tied at the end of OT. Some sort of criteria was involved. Not sure on exact criteria.

I know throughout the 70’s (and maybe late 60’s???) they had the 1-1-1 format for OT.  (There was no OT in duals, matches just ended in draws.). During the 1-1-1 overtime, there were 2 extra refs just observing.  If the scored was tied at the end of OT, the three refs conferred and decided a winner based on who was the most aggressive wrestler during OT.  At that point in time there were no official criteria such as 1st takedown.

    Darden Schurg, Crown Point 2012-15

    4th, 6th at SS behind Forte, 2nd & 2nd

    D3 Nat. Champ at Wabash

    Andy Hobbs, Tipton

4th and 3rd in 1985 & 86 with losses both years to Yorktown’s McCormick if my memory is correct. The online archives should be updated to go back further.

Minor perhaps, but McCormick was from Delta I think.

    These are wrong.

132 should be Jesse Mendez for 2020

170 should be Robert Deters for 2020

Yes, I imagine he got confused because he was comparing 2019 runners-up to 2020 champions and slipped into runners-up for 2020 in a couple places.  Easily done.

4 seats max blocked of per person standing there (including them). They stood in like and waited early so that number is acceptable.  Any more than that is just ridiculous.

I stood in line more than 2 hours to be in front on line.  Then I hurried in only to find 3 coaches of one school, who obviously had gotten access without standing in line, saving a block of 50 seats.  When I told them they weren’t allowed to save that many, they told me that’s what they were doing and I couldn’t stop them.  Then as soon as their 2 wrestlers got promptly beat Friday, almost all of their “fans” immediately got up and left.

In recent years if you have an academy nearby or if your have a big name coach move in with open enrollment available it sure helps your area improve the last several years.

I think you may have meant “and” rather than “or”.

    😉

    1. I never thought I'd see Mendez on his back and nearly pinned!

    2. Parkinson MD could have been in the finals!

    3. Evansville semi-state is the deepest!

    4. Eldred is quietly good!

    5. Rioux and Lowery going to be roommates was awesome to hear!

    6.126 was absolutely stacked!

    7. It was cool to see the 132's Mendez, Koontz, Heath, and someone else all walk with their arms around each other.

    8. Great sportsmanship in the finals

    9. Willman is a tiny 220.. Crider is friggin tall 220!

What is your definition of deep?

Indy or Evansville sans Mater Dei from my memory but luckily we have some data we can prove it with possibly soon.

I don’t recall Indy being a semi-State in the mid 90’s so I assume you mean whatever semi-State Indy was in.  I do remember Marion County being very strong in the mid 90’s, what with the 2 Lawrence schools, Warren Central, Beech Grove, Decatur Central, Perry Meridian, Cathedral all producing major talent then.

That said, maybe memory isn’t as good as it could be, so it would be interesting to see any comparison data.

Wagner scored a reversal as time ran out. Referees met and changed call to an escape. Went to overtime and Fielden scored a takedown

Oh dear me, surely not.  Wow.  Just wow.

My cousin HW Bubba Dickerson of New Castle a Jr pinned all 4 guys in a total of 10 minutes iirc to win the 1995 state title.. He tragically passed before his season and might've done it again.. He was a giant at 17 Cutting to make HW... He pinned future Notre Dame Stand out B.J Scott in the finals rather quickly... He moved like a 45 pounder and was a freak athlete at that size.

Yes, Dickerson really was impressive at State that year.  It would have been great to see how he would have done his senior year and maybe beyond.

Alred and Mendez have a solid chance to pin their way through state. Any other notables? I can only remember DJ Radnovich (sorry if I spelled that wrong) from Gibson Southern pulling off that feat.

I assume you mean starting with sectionals and all the way through ... while ignoring forfeits?

..., but the reality is that it will never happen unless a wrestling person becomes the IHSAA Commissioner some day.

Then maybe we can combine this idea from GrecoCoach with  UncleJimmy’s suggestion on the “Unpopular Opinion ... Pairings Show” thread ...

... by electing Mr. Goebel as IHSAA commissioner.  How do we get his name on the ballot?
