  1. Both wrestlers are very talented this is for sure. Just maybe they were neutralized by the other is why it was the type of match which points are at a premium? I had the chance to see Mullins wrestle several times this season and he didn't just not try to do anything. Believe me if he could have scored he would have don it! Welch's defence made it impossible for him to score. Mullins is also a great rider and pinner and he couldn't keep him down. Hats off to both wrestlers! Great match! Welch did what he had to do to defeat a great wrestler! Good Luck at Purdue and to Mullins good luck next season it just might be your turn to stand at the top!
  2. So define prosper? Someone earlier posted that baskeball sells out Conseco. Attendance has died for baskeball since the class system. They moved the finals to the hoosier dome and sold out 42,000 uner a one class system!! Now you are lucky to get 8,000 to 9,000 per session. I have good friend who is a baskeball coach and he said " he likes the fact that his small school has a better chance to advance but it has killed the attendance through the tourney. It's just not the same" :'(
  3. So Howe would have been a 4 timer in a class system. He wouldn't have wrestled Humphrey his freshman year. Do you think he would have gotten a better schollarship? Cody Phillips would be a 3 timer right now. Do you think that would make him a better wrestler? ??? All a class system would do is water down the tourney. You would have some wrestlers get al the way to semi-state and maybe only wrestle 2 or 3 actual the matches do to forfeits. It comes down to this its man on man either you make the grade or you don't! Next door in Ohio do you really think it mattered what class David Taylor wrestled in? Me either ;D
  4. Well I would consider 2A a small school so a few more that I can think of are Mr. Howe from 2A Hanover Central (not too bad) Randolph Southern 1A had some place winners Jason Martin and another one that I can't remember the name right now. I would need to pull my programs from previous tourneys. Union County had other placers too that I didn't mention Helton, Rocky Moran, Rushville also had Stewart. If you think you need some more I will pull the archives for you?
  5. Just a thought? What about some that come to mind over that last several years of attending the State Tournament. 1A Turkey Run state champ Ryan Pribble, 2A Union County's Michael Duchworth 1time champ 2 time runner up, and Cody Phillips 2 time champ and 3rd place, Casey Caldwell runner up, Chris Barnhizer 2 time placer. 2A Winchester Chalfant 1 time champ 1 time runner up and 7th place. I am sure there are more but these are the one's I knew right off the top of my head. Seems several small schools have had some good success in the one class system? :-*
  6. I think Lance Ellis might have the top spot as best High School wrestler in Indiana history. He was a pinning machine! If you go back to the Toe to Joe interview with the Kieffer twins they still to this day said he is a beast in the room!!
  7. I will admit that is impressive. I also looked at the opponents of each. Trey beat 2 unranked wrestlers to get to the semi's then #10 to get to the finals. In the finals won by fall over #14..... Doug defeated #11 friday night TF unranked in the quarters, then #5 in the semi's and #3 in the finals. Much higher level of opponents to shut out.
  8. How about Doug Welch!! never gave up a single point the entire tourney ;D
  9. I,m looking forward to the Raley vs Kieffer rematch! ;D Raley has some payback for Kieffer from the Spartan Classic? Should be a wopper of a match!!
  10. Never underestimate a wrestler with a BIG HEART!!
  11. Thanks for a great meal RAGUOC79!! We stopped in after the wrestling for a really good meal. I think it is starting to be a tradition? 2 years in a row ? LOL!
  12. Y2 I am unable to access the home page? This might be a temporary glitch due to the switch over to new web site?
  13. i believe that philllips beat gettinger 18-3 3rd period tf
  14. Well Rassler, I think Anderson at 112 has a very tough draw with Gettinger and Rittenberry also has a tough match with Brown at 171?
  15. New Castle will get 7 throu to Semi-State max. 112, 171 both have very tough match-ups first round?
  16. None of the 112 pounders from Shenandoah will make it out! I don't see any of them winning a match at Richmond :-\
  17. Fletcher lost in a very close match. Had a latteral that could've been scored as a takdown and 3 back but the ref only gave 3 back. I spoke to the offical after the match re; the call and he said it was close. Fletcher was on top when the wrestlers had complete separation when the throw happened. but it all happen so fast the offical didn't have time to score it he jumped to the mat to look for the fall and never gave the escape or takedown. 2nd period he gave 2 nearfall to Shenandoah on a roll throu that led to a reversal. 3rd period Fletcher had what looked like a takedown near the line with a cradle locked up from the side and didn't get the call. All of these situations could've been called either way very close match. So it is not unreasonable to think he could win a rematch?
  18. 103 Maggard Rushville 112 Phillips Union Co. 119 Campbell New Castle 125 Bottomley Connersville 130 House Connersville 135 Woodall Connersville 140 McCoy Franklin Co. 145 Decker New Castle 152 Mullins New Castle 160 Hutchinson East Central 171 Manning S. Dearborn 189 Fletcher Centerville 215 Bischoff East Central 285 Brown East Central that's (9 champs from South Dearborn Sectional and 5 from Shenandoah)
  19. Maple at 145 lost by fall to a Hagerstown kid wednesday evening? Got caught in a cradle!!
  20. And to the other Connersville wrestler who came in clutch against the ranked Cody Kendle winning with a last second takedown. The Connersville wrestler was Daniel McFarland 8) Great match
  21. No, Cody Phillips didn't wrestle. Neither did Mason Todd ???
