  1. Matt, I searched archive on ihigh couldn't find it? Remember I am slow on the uptake though
  2. Two of my sons had to wrestle both boys at the Harrison tournament mat fiend and yes they were very high quality young men.
  3. This is probably my last post for alooong while as my triplet sons are seniors and are done. I just wanted to say we have to be proud of the state of the sport here in Indiana. Wrestling some 30 years ago when I was a 98 pounder for Columbus North was an afterthought and yes we still have things to work on but we should be proud of all the young men and women who give their blood, sweat, and tears all over the state. The sport of wrestling has come along ways and continues growth because of forums like this..tip of the hat to Indiana Mat...and all the thankless jobs of coaches at every level..as well as parents. After attending state finals the last 5 years, we need to sit back and smile at the tremendous quality of wrestlers and coaches we have. I want to give some props to a few people and places along the way, now I am from Southern Indiana so if I miss some Northern folks don't get upset..it wasn't intentional. Coach Howard Jones of Jennings County...he was a coach when I wrestled and is head coach of JC today. Huge props to a man who has dedicated himself to a great sport and to the kids. The programs of Perry Meridian, B South, and Mater Dei...it is because of these consistently good programs that push other programs and wrestlers to be the best they can be. Hats off to these young men who my sons had to face a few too many times..LOL...Jacob Cottey, Grant Schermer, Red Jr., Bailey LaHue, Stevie Jones at New Albany, Cornelius at Perry, Austin Ealy....all great wrestlers and all very good young men who were full of class. My hats off to all of you who compete on the mat and coach, help, or parents of wrestlers in this great sport in the state of Indiana
  4. Friday night we watching Forrest vs. Jacob Cottey a very tough first round match...we all know the outcome and as with any Senior who has worked as hard as Cottey, he got emotional. I don't know who the Fairfield Coach was who grabbed and hugged Jacob, said something to him as he walked off the mat but it was epitome of class. You could tell it had an effect on Cottey whatever he said.. I tip my hat to Fairfield coach for that...very classy There are other coaches who probably did the same thing all over the state...that's why this is a great sport
  5. Andrew Jones Columbus North beats Larson from Cathedral 4-3 at Connersville at 152. Jones unranked
  6. Yes I know that. I am stating my opinion just like you are. I don't think that these discussions of prediction do any value. Thus I am discussing it.
  7. I appreciate a coaches view on this. I hate these posts where people pick or line up how they think the outcome will be. Wrestlers read these predictions...some it gets in their heads...some get cocky and over confident with the posts...the ones who are right ignore it. My feelings are just exactly like you said, lets lace up the shoes go to the mats and SEE who is best. Its all about peaking at the right time. Nice comments here coach.
  8. Well at least it loads for you guys...won't even load for us
  9. Boomsma...someone has already brought up he is tough as nails. He is a senior with tournament experience. He is strong for the weight class and that is why he is so dominant in the top position. The schedule strength was brought up...Last time I checked Boomsma wrestled in one of the tougher conferences which he walked through. I also don't think Bloomington South probably schedules and easy schedule. Just say this, he is all business. I wish all the 103 guys the best of luck from a former 98 pounder from back in the day. It should be fun watching this weight this weekend
  10. Probably the best quote said on this thread. As a father and former wrestler who was average at best, any young man or woman that steps out on the mat, who makes the commitment to the most grueling grinding sport there is, deserves total respect no matter what. We are building these kids to be adults through this sport..no one is a joke. This sport is not the end all do all of the world either. I would venture to guess that out of all the kids running through Indiana HS wrestling programs we might have a very small percentage of people who carry this on to their future career, however, this sport builds character, work ethic, and a never say quit attitude...that's why I encourage my sons to do it. Anyone taking a shot at a young man or woman has lost their way Mike Speaker Columbus North Bulldog Wrestling parent times 3
  11. Congrats to Baron...how did Steve do?
  12. Greco you are the man! Thank You...come to Columbus and I will buy ya lunch
  13. Yeah Greco I figured Baron would be a beast today
  14. In case the word we are getting out of Eville is wrong, Baron advanced. It was his brother Zach that got beat
  15. Yeah Matt, you are correct from my sources
  16. I am with you Mclovin....I pretty much figured Collet wasn't going to let this slip away from him.
  17. Yeah I agree with Doggystyle here. I might be partial but leaving Holt out of the discussion for winning the Semi State might be nice fodder for Gabe to fire up and just plain leaving McGaha off the list at 140 for pushing towards the top is a slip. I was also scratching my head thinking you didn't put one Rieker in as a favorite. Kind of wondering if you have seen those three wrestle this year. They have beat, but been beaten by high quality opponents. Again I am a "homer" but I have seen all those kids wrestle against some of the better competition.
  18. Props to all coaches and programs that this happened to. I feel extremely bad for the kids who gave all the dedication of practicing and getting ready for events like this. I, as a parent, would rain down hell, fire, and brimstone on IPS. Once again, like someone else said, it all comes down to what they perceive brings in money. That's terrible that the administration doesn't realize what they have done to the kids and their efforts put forth to compete. Complete lunacy.
  19. What a great two days of wrestling. Particularly impressed with all the kids from Carroll and Roncalli. The young man at 171 for Cathedral is not only an impressive wrestler, but from a small interaction I had with him seemed to be a very high quality individual. Hats off to Connersville for the tournament and how it was run. Great job to all
  20. 103 Speaker is done. Got beat in Wrestle backs. 112 Speaker in winners bracket. Others in winners bracket from Columnus North is Smith and Holt
  21. So much for everyone,s bold predictions.....Phillips from Union County is out with the flu
  22. Okay newbie Dad here wondering if at Connersville they wrestle the first day until they have the final 4 in winner's bracket and final 4 in the wrestleback bracket? OR is it just see how it goes kind of deal?
