  1. Darrick, that is cool. I understand why you had to cancel it. What about the kids who paid and weighed-in on Thursday night, but aren't part of the Mishawaka Club? Can we get a refund? Or can the entrance fee count towards next year?
  2. Wow! If u wrestle 4 Al Hartman & r actually offense minded, then u are a rarity my friend. I've never seen any coach who teaches more stalling, evading & playing the edge than Al "heels on the line" Hartman.
  3. Congrats to Penn. Penn is likely to be the perfect situation. I did not go there, but I could see my kids attending there some day. Well, I don't have kids yet, but you know what I mean. You have a top coach in Harper who will likely be there for the next 30 years. A large student body where one can field a competitive team even in 'off' years. A student population that is middle class to upper middle class where parents have the $ to spend on camps, freestyle, clubs, tournaments, trips. A youth program with 250 kids from just K-5th grade. And remember these Penn wrestlers who won the Al Smith have only been with Harper for 2.5 years. Just imagine what Penn is going to be like in another few years when the ball is really rolling.
  4. What time are the finals?
  5. Me fail English... that's unpossible.
  6. Will there be more HYWAY tournaments this year? I enjoyed the HYWAY tournaments last year. There don't seem to be a lot on the HYWAY web site schedule right now.
  7. Worst thing that ever happened to South Bend wrestling was the IHSAA introduction of the super-sectional in 2003. Before that there were two local sectionals. 1- @ Mishawaka: SB Adams, SB Riley, Mish. Marian, Mishawaka, Penn 2- @ South Bend LaSalle: SB Clay, SB LaSalle, SB St. Joe, SB Washington (LaSalle HS closed several years ago.) Every year a variety of teams & kids won the SB sectional and advanced. Now with the super-sectional at Mishawaka containing 9 teams, forget it. Mishawaka & Penn grab 1st & 2nd place in almost every weightclass. That leaves 2 remaining slots for Laville, Mish. Marian, SB Adams, SB Clay, SB St. Joe, SB Riley, SB Washington to fight over. It is a recipe for exactly how to kill wrestling in South Bend. To me, this is EXACTLY why we need class wrestling in the INDIVIDUAL state tourney series, even before class wrestling comes to team state. Kids won't go out just to get pounded by large 5A schools, which results in many forfeits.
  8. Has hyway state been scheduled? I don't see it on their web site.
  9. Definitely best post of the week. LMAO!
  10. So how many coaches does Penn have in their high school and club?
  11. This happens regularly in Illinois. The larger schools and programs will send their jv to other varsity tournaments and that jv team operates on separate points from the varsity.
  12. Vision Quest errors: * Continuity: In the match between Loudon and Shute, the referee clearly says "no takedown" as they go out of bounds. Yet, when he brings them back to the line, Loudon takes the "down" position and the score is 2-0 in Shute's favor, indicating a takedown has been awarded. * Revealing mistakes: The boxes of detergent that fall on Louden at the supermarket are clearly empty. * Boom mic visible: As Louden and his father move to a corner to speak privately in the restaurant, the boom mic can be seen in the bottom of the screen between them. * Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): During the weigh-in, when Louden is seen standing next to Shute, it is clear that Shute is twice the size of Louden. Also, when the 101 pounders are weighing in, it is clear that due to their muscular physique, they weigh at least 130 pounds. * Continuity: The wristbands on the referee's are on the wrong arm. The red wristband should be on the left wrist, and the green band on the right wrist. * Boom mic visible: (At 06:50) Visible in the top of the frame for a second. Here is the scoring issue that always bothered me. In the final match, in the final minute, the score is 13-9 in favor of Shute. I was always bothered by the fact Loudin's coach says, "You have to stick him!" In actuality, Louden would have won the match on points anyway, even if the ref had not called a pin. In the last minute, Louden gets an escape, a take-down and near fall which should give him 6 points (1 for the escape, 2 for the take-down, 3 near fall). The referee does not indicate this, though, and the final score on the scoreboard after the pin (with 0:06 left) is still 13-9, when it should be 15-13.
  13. Wow, forgot all about this movie. It's descent. From imdb....Trivia This was Disney's first "PG" rated film, five years before they launched Touchstone Pictures to expand into the "adult" market. The company's name never appeared on this title though: the only reference to the Disney name was that it was released thru Disney's Buena Vista Distribution company.
  14. Off topic... when did Plymouth HS switch from pilgrims to rockies? And why?

    HYWAY/MYWAY

Also, why should a person get a HYWAY card if you don't need one to enter a tourney? Just trying to figure this out.
  16. Went to Penn HS on Saturday to watch my little cousin. Penn had a 2 week elementary program for k-5 and Saturday held a tourney for the kids. Penn had over 250 kids in that k-5 program tourney. I'd never seen anything like that. That inside-the-district little kid tournament seemed bigger than some hyway and iswa tourneys I've attended. My uncle said Penn has 100+ guys on the high school team. I have no idea how good Penn really is, but with those kind of numbers their odds of success are astronomical.
  17. Read this on the MYWAY web site: http://www.mywaywrestling.com/schedule/2011%20Tournaments/North/CMU%202010.pdf "All wrestlers must be a MYWA member in order to compete in any MYWA sanctioned." Does this mean that Indiana HYWAY members are barred from competing in all Michigan MYWAY tournaments?
  18. #1 Have 16 teams qualify for Team state. Hold first round on Friday nite. Possibly have teams wrestle not only for 1st/2nd, but 3rd/4th and 5th/6th. #2 Hold Team State on Sunday immediately after individual state, like Minnesota. #3 Despite busco's disagreement, propose classing BOTH Team & Individual state. If we propose classing Team state only or any other changes to Team state, the IHSAA will just see it as a Mickey Mouse move. Y is correct. If we don't class individual state, then 90% of the wrestling community is left out. I disagree with the premise we should only discuss Team state and not even breath a word about classing Individual state. That is precisely the kind of faulty logic that got us into this mess to begin with. We need a wholistic solution to this issue. The $$$ from Wisconsin don't lie.
  19. I'm really of two minds about this whole thing. I am SO happy that someone is finally challenging the iswa. The iswa has not improved with the times & is still doing things they did 20 yrs ago. However, hyway bring in all this folkstyle will cause increased burnout rates and nearly will obliterate fs/gr in northern indiana.
  20. As a person in the northern part of the state, I hope one of those changes is that some northern clubs step up and host a FS or GR tourney. It is sad how many FS/GR tourneys are in central or southern indiana and how few are in northern indiana. That isn't the iswa's fault; it's the fault of clubs up north.
  21. Personally, I think it is GREAT that the ISWA posted the schedule this early. Even if it is in a draft form with some changes coming. This is by far the earliest I have ever seen it.
  22. Didn't they "try" this in Illinois about 10 years ago? If I recall, it was specifically directed at ending Mt. Carmel's wrestling dominance. They Mt. Carmel took the IHSA (Illinois) to court and won. So the IHSA countered by just not having a Team state wrestling tournament that year. Am I remembering this correctly? Wisconsin was slightly unique in that football and basketball had a "private school division" for literally decades, while most other sports had private and public schools together. I was a crazy system. I know because I grew up in Wisconsin. All factors aside, I would simply ask "Is it worth it?" You know that some lawyer would sue and it would spend years in litigation and everyone would end up bruised. After the well known public court losses of the IHSAA, I don't think they would be too interested in another brawl. Plus, we end up with messy situations like Charter Schools that are private & public in someways.
  23. It would not be a bad idea to reassess the date of the Central Regional. That is a lot to ask for volunteers, officials, wrestlers, etc. to travel to Indy/Franklin three straight weekends. Wow, I just think that will be tough on those way down south and way up north. Also, a quick check of the internet shows 3 high schools in our area, plus Purdue and ND, all have graduation that weekend.
