  1. I was at the meet. From a fan's standpoint, I can't believe that no one has mentioned yet that Eldred wrestled REALLY well. Just want to give Eldred some credit. While some other factors may have come in to play, the fact that no one has mentioned that Eldred was on fire for the match is very noticeable. He wrestled very well. Also, I'm sure Jack was ill, you could see that. I also wish he would have made every attempt to get to the awards stand for the presentation. Regardless of illness or not, I wish he would have been there, deal with the nausea for 2 minutes and show respect to those in your weight class. Two great competitors, hopefully we'll get to see them again down the road.....again in this entire thread no one had mentioned Eldred and felt that he deserved to be recognized for an incredible match.
  2. The situation at 126 with Trezdon O'Neal was crazy! There were some rumors in the stands today, but all I know is O'Neal was there, was ready to go, then was out.
  3. If the Pepsi Coliseum is not an ideal fit financially, how does it compare to the cost of the Hulman Center at Indiana State or Worthen Arena at Ball State? Would either of these be a more affordable option? FW Coliseum?
  4. I think Boone Grove had Rigdon at 189 and River Forest had Salas before he went to Merrillville. Both in the early 2000's.
  5. This kid looked like he went through a war by the end of the tourney. You could tell he was really hurting, but you have to respect that he kept coming in his matches despite a taped up head and a taped up foot/leg/ankle. Glad he finished his career on the mat rather than default out. Gutty performance!
  6. I believe this regional should be moved to Crawfordsville HS.. While I agree the award presentations need to be adjusted. I feel the primary reason this event should be moved is seating. There is not enough seating in NMHS gymnasium for the spectators. Crawfordsville and Zionsville both offer more seating than North Montgomery, and the seating area would be upstairs with competition on the main floor. Due to the lack of seating there is a tremendous overflow of spectators to the wrestling floor area. I saw on several separate matches yesterday where the "emotional fan/parent" was too close to the mat and were a distraction. These situations could get ugly quickly and it almost happened yesterday. There was a situation in the semi finals at 152 where a parent of one of the wrestlers was matside (due to the lack of seating I presume), and made some taunting gestures and yells toward an opposing coach. I thought for sure there was going to be some fireworks between the parent and the coach, thankfully the official and the coach of the parent's school stepped in and got the parent away. These situations should never happen and detract from the athletes. I think if the regional was moved to Crawfordsville everyone would have more room and situations like the one at 152 yesterday could be avoided.
  7. I went to IHSWCA Team State Duals today at Westfield HS today . What an incredible environment that facility was for this event! I'm sure some things could be tweaked, etc., but I just wanted to say "job well done". Coach O'Neill, former football Coach Belden, and middle school Coach Steele, could be seen throughout the day working hard to ensure that the event went smoothly. Their efforts as well as the efforts of other members of their staff, and their high school wrestlers did not go unnoticed. The Westfield parents working the concession stand were very helpful as well. Thank you Shamrocks for a tremendous day.
  8. Before we move on to the excitement of the Holiday Tournaments, I just wanted to congratulate Westfield HS for their efforts in the first ever IHSWCA team state. From a distance their tournament staff did an outstanding job. Their entire coaching staff and many of their wrestlers were on hand to help anyone and everyone with anything that they needed. Seemed like their coaching staff was always on the move that day helping someone or some team with something that they needed. The two WHS athletic trainers did a great job on the day as well. They seemed to be busy all day and on top of their game. Things seemed to run very smoothly, and I feel those at Westfield HS probably had a little to do with that and should be commended. Great facility, great job!
  9. Just wanted to say congrats to Westfield High School for their performance this past weekend. Top 4 at Calumet in any year is a great accomplishment. Job well done Shamrocks. This experience will only help the young Shamrock team in the future.
  10. It was a tremendous day at North Montgomery!!!! Lots of great matches all over the place. Congratulations to the Zionsville sectional for winning all 14 weight classes in the regional!!!! Upset of the day: Take your pick-Southmont Brown at 182 over Conner ZV or Floor WF over Neibarger HSE. Hugo Perz of FF wrestled tough! One post on here said neither of his matches vs. Snyder or Steele were as close as the score??? I couldn't disagree more as both Snyder and Steele had the lead in the 3rd period but Perez fought through and won both matches. Well done Hugo, but both were very competitive matches. Good luck to all 3 young men next week. Jackson Bennett of HSE had a tremendous day as well, coming in as a 4 and finishing in 2nd! Irick looks tough as nails at 170. Schaeffer of WF looked very impressive as well. One poster on here put that Brown gave him all he wanted. Score says 8-1??? Not that close. Will Lough be able to compete next weekend? 120-Lile's win over Moore was a hard fought match
  11. Where are the Elmores? Where is Hunter? All three from HH??
  12. From Coach Oneil's post on the results page... 285 Championship- Janney (HSE) dec Stevens (F) 8-5 3rd Place Match-Gilchrist (WE) pin Colter (CA) 4:29 5th Place Match-Eastman (N) pin Vondersaar (GC) 3:04 Porter (HH) came in at 12-0 at 285 and was the #2 seed but did not wrestle yesterday
  13. Looks to be all HSE this year, however Fishers should come away with a few champs, and I don't think I'd ever look past the Shamrocks (they may pick up a lot of points in the consolations). My predictions.... 106-Chastain (HSE) pins his way through, Lee (F) 2nd place 113-Agree with Coach Humphrey....Stansberry (HSE) and Belden (W) could be a toss up in the finals 120-Lile (F) appears to be the clear favorite here, Leech (CA) 2nd 126-Watson (HSE) wins, however semifinal of Syverson (F) and Eldred (W) could be a good one 132-Another championship for HSE, Snyder is the class of the field. Looks like Steele (W) could be his opponent in the finals 138-I'll take the winner of Gunning v. Marcuson as the champion, however hope to see a Blackhawk in the finals with Delph (S) 145-Tatom v. Winner of Wormuth/Rooney Semi....what a semifinal match in the bottom half...Tatom champion 152-Bennett (HSE) over Specht (N) in final 160-What a weight class...I'll take Neibarger (HSE) over Krege (CA) 170-Irick (HSE) over Sloderbeck (HH) in the finals 182-Schaeffer (W) over Eidson (S) 195-Sliga (F) wins however the semifinal bottom bracket appears to be a good one, DeLong v. Dixon 220-Noblesville get their first championship of the day. Bond (N) over Snyder (F) 285-Porter (HH) overtime win over Janney (HSE)
  14. Just a quick note to wish all of the Hamilton County wrestlers good luck at State! It has been a pleasure watching each of you over the past season. Carmel Ben Sommer Grant Scurria Curtis Anderson James Frascella What a senior group for the Greyhounds! Can't wait to see the seniors on the mat one more time! Hopefully we can see all of them on the mat on Saturday Westfield Brady White Lukas Schaeffer Tyler Melby An incredible season for the Shamrocks! This team battled a lot of adversity with injuries, etc., and sends 3 to state! Best of luck to the two seniors Melby and White, and to the junior Schaeffer who might be one of the more improved wrestlers I've seen in quite some time. Fishers Mitch Sliga Good luck Mitch! Cap off the season with a championship! You can do it. That semi final match could be a classic. HSE Mitch Snyder HSE had quite an impressive season, HCC and Sectional Champs! Not the best of draws at Semi State prevented Snyder from having any teammates join him. Here's hoping to a first round upset for Snyder! Noblesville Tyler Gadient Chase your dream Tyler! It has been fun having you back on the mat. I think you can place Saturday! Thanks for a great season boys. Congrats to all of the coaches who worked so hard as well!
  15. Speaking of Sliga's closest match, Schaeffer is pretty impressive this season as well. Dramatic improvement over the course of a season. Good luck to Mitch Sliga and Lukas Schaeffer.
  16. Great day of wrestling at ZHS in one week! Looking forward to it. These predictions may change over the next week but here you go...... 103-Pick your favorite freshmen...Lile (F), Belden (W), Mantel (Z). These 3 may finish one way at sectional and finish in a completely different order at regional. They will be fun over the next 4 years. 112-Much like Timbo, my knowledge is limited to Hamilton County teams, and I do not mean to slight anyone else, however I like Gray of Fishers here. I think the blood time at the HCC finals distracted him and I like Gray to pull it out. 119-Josh Julien of Lebanon. Looks to be his, toss up for second however Fishers 119 may be a bit motivated after the HCC. 125-Sommer Carmel. Enough said. 130-Parham Carmel. Seems like this kid has been around forever. I hope he puts together a heck of a run. 135-I'll go with the young McCloskey of WeBo over Tatum. McCloskey is impressive. 140-White, Westfield. Another one that seems to have been around forever, good luck this post season. 145-Scurria v. Miller. Battle of undefeated wrestlers for the championship. I take Scurria by fall. 152-Irick v. Frauhiger in the finals. I think Irick gets him this time. However Van Camp could be be a factor here, but I still like Irick. 160-Hello Depth......Anderson, Youngs, Neibarger. I'll go with Anderson. 171-Frascella appears to be the clear cut #1 here. 189-Sliga. 215-I look forward to a rematch of the county finals. fishers v. Carmel. I'll take the Carmel 215 this time. 285-I'll pick the Frankfort 285 here over Fishers, HSE, and Westfield. Team race: 1. Carmel (Hard to bet against the hounds with so much success and such a senior heavy line up. Their loss to Fishers at the beginning of the month was without their 215) 2. Fishers (Wow...what Coach Harreld has doen there is impressive. I think theyhave enough firepower to hang with the hounds, but I think Carmel beats them by a small margin) 3. HSE (Coach Gastineau, Coach Humphrey, etc. continue to build HSE into a force. Look out next year. Is all they lose Smitley? This team is one year away from being really special!) 4. Westfield (This team is the wildcard. They have been decimated by injuries in the month of January. If they are at full strength, I wouldn't look past them. And could leap frog a team or two here)
  17. In the team race I think it all depends upon how healthy Westfield is. At North Central they were very banged up with several starters out of the line up. If everyone is back they could be a factor again, however I think the favorite here has to be Fishers after the big win at Avon. It will be a very interesting tournament this coming weekend! Good luck everyone.
  18. Ok....this is from memory.... 103-Elmore, Lile, Belden Semi final beween Lile and Belden was great, Elmore controls loaded weight class 112-Gray, Inman (Gray dominates the entire day) 119-Snyder of HSE with a takedown to Sipher's back for the huge points and fall in the closing moments of the third period, 125-Sommer, Watson, 130-Parham over Wolschlaeger by fall Parham dominates the weight, Wohlschleager comes out of no where to make the finals 135-Bankert by major of Rokop. 140- White dec. Madden. Madden had a nice tournament. White is a very tall/long 140. 145-Scurria beats Montes in a battle of undefeateds. 152-Bowers (N) remains undefeated with win over Sloderbeck 160- Irick (HSE) very impressive in win over Specht (N) 171- Frascellas © dec Kane (W), Neibarger HSE third. Kane dominates Niebarger in the semis. 189-Sliga by tech fall over Schaeffer (W). Sliga is a monster! 215-Perhaps the match of the day.... Snyder (F) dec Corbin © 3-1 OT 285-Melby dec Janney.
  19. Wrestling1 and FCFighter170.... I believe the dropped out of rankings after opening weekend loss to Westfield 44-30.
  20. I think Overbey of Harrison (WL) should contend at 103.
  21. Heard today that Coach O'Neal from Westfield was injured this week at practice and has not returned. Possible broken bones in his face and potential surgery, and that he will possibly miss semi state. Hope you heal up and hope see you at semi state coach!
