ekocottonball
I don't know if you caught this, but Minnesota is now allowing transgender students to compete in gender based sports based upon a personal declaration. So if one is biologically a male, but declares themself to be female, then they could compete on the womens volleyball team. Doesn't matter that much for local wrestling because women and men already compete against each other. So this wouldn't really have any impact on Indiana wrestling. The point is moot for us. However, it could eventually matter at the collegiate level. Or at the high school level if more states develop separate mens and womens divisions for wrestling. Hawaii has a separate womens division state championship for wrestling. One article on the topic asked the question, "What if Clay Matthews declared himself a woman? How fair would that be?" Interesting that some womens advocates are calling this the end of Title IX. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2014/12/04/minnesota-approves-new-transgender-friendly-policy-for-high-school-athletes/
jasonbk2
Been thinking about this lately because it's happening more often. Since a girl is allowed to play high school football because there is not a equal sport to that for girls would a boy be allowed to play high school volleyball since there is no equal sport for boys? Girls get all the support to play football but I bet there would be hell raised if a boy was put on a volleyball team. Just a thought rdrodd1

IHSAA By-Laws already spell all the particulars of this issue out. Quick answer is no males are not allowed to participate in female team or individual competitions. toddlockyear
No one has challenged that bylaw...that I'm aware of, but It Would not be upheld in court. If a male wants to play volleyball and the IHSAA tried to block him... He would have a case,AND he could delay or even hault the VBall season. Ah, but the catch-22 here is that he would not be a "male", he is a "male that is declaring himself to be a female". Very confusing!!!
