devildog47959 Posted July 21, 2010 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Wrestling ESCOBEDO THIRD AT GRAND PRIX MEET: Griffith and Indiana University graduate Angel Escobedo finished third in the 121-pound division at the Heydar Aliyev Golden Grand Prix last weekend in Baku, Azerbaijan. Escobedo went 4-1, defeating Lasha Lomtadze of Georgia, fellow American Obe Blanc, Nurlan Makenaliev of Krygysztan and Radislav Velikov of Bulgaria, while losing to Russian Nariman Israpilov. Escobedo won the World University Trials in June and will travel to Italy to wrestle in the University World Championships in October. His family will host a send-off spaghetti dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 at St. Mary's Hildebrandt Hall in Griffith. Cost is $15 per person with proceeds benefiting Escobedo's trip. Don't think Angel had much time to eat as he was signing autographs, taking pictures, and talking to his fans and supporters. Had an after party at Bridges Scoreboard after the dinner with friends and family. Overall it went good, too bad he was only in town for the weekend but has to get back to OTC and get ready to go to Moscow and then Torino.
