drogers Posted March 4, 2010 Share Posted March 4, 2010 We have used this technique at our school tournaments and folkstyle tournaments for the past 3 years and it has worked well so I am passing it on. We first did it when we had a basketball game after our tournament and needed to get the gym clean in a hurry. We place large plactic trash bags throughout the stands and have a sign at our door asking people to help by putting their trash in the bags. We also make an announcement requesting that they do this. All we ask is that they put their trash in the bags and either leave them in the stands or bring them down to the gym floor where our custodians will collect them. I will admit that when I'm at my own venue I tend to clean up well after myself/my family...but when I'm at another venue, I still try, but it doesn't bother me as much if I leave trash behind....BUT...if I had a trashbag to keep by me in thestands, I would definitely make sure my area was cleaned up when I left (might even clean up someone else's mess too). Just seems like a good thing to do so the janitors don't have to deals with just a major mess. I did have the announcer make this suggestion a few time to the crowd at the end of our middle school tournament today. I'm sure not everything was cleaned up, but every little bit helps.
