  1. Not this tournament, but maybe they left their shoes at home, went back to get them(when he was already at the tournament school) and then missed weigh ins. True story. He didn't even think to weight in before going back to get his shoes.
  2. The Strength and Conditioning coach we have now (new as of 2 years ago) has all athletes on the same routines. Right now our wrestlers are doing the same workouts as all APC athletes, which do the same workouts whether in season or not. So any wrestler, basketball, swimmer that is in APC during winter season will continue with the typical APC workouts, which in winter is a lot of power lifting/bulking routines but still has a mix of lifts.
  3. Since our school is football focused, they sometimes have our guys doing max outs day before or day of meets. Not a fan of that but some lifting is fine. Some select lifts and proper reps could help loosen up some muscles before matches though.
  4. And I forgot, to say thank you Joe for giving guys a chance to voice their platform and thoughts for running for a position. In the past, that I'm aware of, there hasn't really been much of a chance for individuals that want to run to get heard by outsiders. Who knows, all 17 that tuned in last night could be the difference in who sits in the Chairman's spot when done. I don't do a whole lot of socializing around tournaments and will admit I'm not very active outside our own club, so in the past I kind of blindly followed the pack on leaders for our state. This gives someone like me a chance to hear what others think and how they might improve our overall wrestling experience.
  5. We are starting a girls only group within our club. I was wondering how some of you others have gone about by spreading the word and reaching to attract them to our sport. Football is our biggest target for our area for boys. Was wondering besides yard signs and such to help get the word out. I'm posting on social media sites and tagging some of our women's programs in if someone follows them they can potentially see our program. What have you guys done to help bring awareness to a girls program?
  6. ARTICLE IV. THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CORPORATION Section 1. The Governing Body of the Corporation shall be made up of the following: E) Each Wrestling Club Representative shall have one vote for their club at the Annual Meeting as well as all called meetings of the Corporation. This vote must be cast in person by a duly authorized officer of the club. This authorization must be on file with the ISWA Secretary at any meeting where this vote may be cast. This officer must be listed on the current club application. To me this sounds like any of the board members can make the vote for the club, as long as in attendance. It sounds like if you're not on the board, but representing the club at the meeting, then you need the club's authorization to cast the vote. Can someone clarify? My wife is the treasurer for us, will be attending the meeting and she will be voting on our behalf.
  7. Listened off and on while feeding my lil guy. Good answers and ideas to help create a better connection from wrestler, coaches and board members(club and ISWA itself). Sounds like he has some pretty good background with 501's and if he can help bring in good fundraisers as well, that'd be a huge bonus. Some of the cost for the trips have hindered good wrestlers from attending.
  8. If you know anyone looking for a youth club to be active with, and they are in the Greenwood/Whiteland area or anywhere, we are looking for some more long term help. My resources and time are getting thin now that our little boy is here and parent help has been very few and far between. We have a coach that will be with us for a while but looking for another or 2 to help fill in as well. We are looking for help with any of our groups and hoping for someone to help come in and fill a solid roll in the program. Hopefully not just a bystander coach, but someone that wants to take it to another level beyond what I've been able to do. I will continue to be with the program, but be there as over sight, guidance and continuing to run the overall program. We've got a youth non-competition program, beginner and advanced group. We are also introducing a girls only program this year. So plenty of opportunities to get some coaching experience in. If you know anyone that is on the south side of Indy that is interested please give them my email and I'd be glad to bring them in. Thanks, Shawn Slaymon shawn.slaymon@gmail.com
  9. One our former wrestlers is in the 54kg freestyle class, Phillip(Tristan) Chapman, who now is wrestling in North Carolina.
  10. I'm a fan of the wrestler in control is in and opponent is on line, near fall and fall being there. Don't care either way for the shirt/short combo or singlet, but if it somehow magically makes out numbers increase by 25% like they want, then sure.
  11. Own: Long day at Tournament of Champions, getting the crap beat out of me by Ryan Churella in quarters and placing. Coach: My daughters first match this season. Fan: The HWT match for 3rd/4th was pretty entertaining.
  12. I'd advise you build it in Whiteland. Second the projector, screen and computer/tablet setup. Could be good way to show film directly in room.
  13. My wrestlers are trying to get me to bet that if most of the team signs up, I sign up. So far our off season #'s have went down the drain, so it looks like I'm safe from embarrassing myself on the mat.
  14. http://www.ohiotofc.com/ Plenty of good matches there and should have a decent size bracket.
  15. As Tom stated earlier, you have to look at who's wrestling and where they are wrestling at. Similar to a college match at IOWA, one step backwards and they call stalling. Home mat advantage, especially when it's an officials decision on the call.
  16. Trackwrestling has dual scores locked up at 13-13. Coming down to 125 kg match. Should be a good one and winner takes home the GOLD.
  17. Saw the Avon Wrestling Club picture. Those are out there. Kids will dig em.
  18. That's what I was figuring on that. Since shot clock is judges discretion just wanted to confirm what I was thinking. David Taylor is on fire this weekend. Big win against Yazdani.
  19. Anyone watch the Green match? How was he put on the shot clock twice? First time I understand, but second time he was being the aggressor it looked like. I thought it was based of activity? Anyone see it mind clarifying the rule to put him on it the 2nd time?
  20. Molinaro up 4-0 and plays defense and ends up losing 5-4. US in a big whole now. Iran is wrestling pretty well to limit the US wrestlers and their styles.
  21. US off to a slow start. Ramos and Steiber getting worked over so far. Molinaro up now.
  22. Do you think they'd allow an exhibition match at the end between B. Lee and J. Lee? That's the match I WANT to see. A lot I want to see happen, but the one that is guaranteed to happen is the 126 opener with White and Cummings. That is one that I'll be paying attention to Friday night. Is it Friday yet?
  23. The rise of academies are doing quite a bit for Indiana wrestling. The Region and Maurer Coughlin have their strongholds in their part of the states as well as the several in Central Indiana. The level of competition over the past years at the MS state tournament has been pretty incredible. Seeing a bunch of wrestlers ready to compete at the high school level at early ages is helping Indiana wrestling rise to another level. Thanks to those that put this on. It is always a fun tournament to coach at and be a part of. As mentioned, some qualifiers would be nice in areas around the state. The though of getting home at midnight or later for several people with school the next day is rough. Any schools/clubs/teams interested in piecing these together to help all involved?
  24. If full wrestlebacks aren't an option, then repachage round at regionals. Wrestlers who lost to finalist get pulled into 5th 6th place match.
  25. Love the thought of having qualifiers to make the state tournament a little shorter. If there were 3 qualifying tournaments, you could always do a top 5 to get it down to 15 with some sort of criteria to see which 6th place finisher gets the last spot? 4 would be ideal, as you could do one up in Da Region, Fort Wayne, Indy and a southern host, maybe Jeffersonville area? Take top 4 and bracket them 1vs4 with each weight class drawn independently on the draws.
