  1. looking forward to the Pride of the Eastside coming to Franklin and bringing some fellas. Great night to scrap and learn from this young kiddo with a bright future ahead him. bring some teammates wrestling community. Great night ahead.
  2. To keep the female side of the sport progressing and growing the girls will need mat time. In certain areas of the state there are going to be a limited number of girls at certain weight classes to compete against. Similarly for certain teams there will be a limited number of coaching availability to travel to meets. If those issue create a lack of mat time I feel we may see a situation where some girls decide to quite, team sizes drop which further perpetuates the issue, and some schools decided it’s easier to just focus on the boys side of things. Due to those concerns I wouldn’t mind the IHSAA allowing female wrestlers at least have the option to also compete against boys at JV events for the next few years while still remaining eligible for the girls post season event. Now I mention the boys JV not a slight toward the girls ability (as some have shown they can hang at the boys varsity level), but rather an opportunity for the IHSAA to allow female wrestlers to gain mat time without it creating some questions or confusion on how to handle boys varsity records relate to sectional criteria or impacting boys varsity dual results. This seems like a reasonable compromise that i wouldn’t mind the IHSWCA perusing before we get to close to the season for the IHSAA to want to listen this logic and then after year this year be to set in their ways to want to adjust later. If numbers continue to grow and enough competition exists in a few years then I’d be fine splitting things permanently, but I’m not sure we are there yet if we want get these young ladies enough mat time to improve and feel that this grueling sport is worth continuing with. I get we should see some continues growth next season, but if you look at girls regionals this year a few things stand out: The lack of entries at certain weights at some of the girls regional, the total matches some girls had a these regionals, and the idea that some girls wrestled over 1/3 of their matches against the same single opponent during the season. Then notice that at a regional level where some teams there would be over an hour away from each other during the season. I have no problem with the IHSAA deciding to take a chance a girls wrestling, but provide some opportunity where the female can gain mat experience while the sport is grow to a sustainable level in all weight classes and in all areas. I’m just not sure we are there yet if a full split occurs and they don’t allow e the option for girls to at least pursue in season match the boys JV level.

  7. @Thor and @The Genius, I'm actually seeing a lot of people on other boards insisting DT would wrestle the Olympics as his last tournament if Brooks can't go. It seems insane to think of in the middle of the transfer portal, needing to move across the country and probably selling a couple of local businesses. ...and probably leaving his training camp. But people insist it would do so much for the notoriety of the Oklahoma State program that he'd do it. They say, "John Smith wrestled in the Olympics while coaching. Cael Sanderson made a freestyle comeback while coaching. Why can't DT?" I hear them, but in this day and age of 24/7/365 recruiting and training demands for D1 coaches--seems crazy. To be his best, he needs 6+ hours per day for training, eating, and recovery activities and 8-9 hours of sleep. He then uses 9-10 hours per day for a big-time D1 coaching job, plus family, business, moving, travel, media appearances, etc, with none of the downtime that a high-level athlete's mind needs in preparing for an elite event? Let me be the first to predict DT doesn't get gold if he is our rep.
  8. David Taylor was announced as the head coach of Oklahoma State late last night, I think his competition days are now over.

  12. Perry Meridian is proud to announce that Indiana’s 4 Timer CJ Red & IU Asst Coach will be leading our RTC on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. C.J. Red, Assistant IU Coach The 2023-24 season marks C.J. Red's second on the Indiana Wrestling coaching staff. In year one, Red helped Indiana's program make big strides. The Hoosiers' 8-5 record in 2022-23 was the team's best since 2016-17, that included three Big Ten wins and three ranked victories, as well. Red provided valuable experience of wrestling at the highest stage and in recent time, after just finishing his collegiate career in March 2022. He worked closely with Indiana's light and middleweights and helped push Graham Rooks (149 lbs.) to have the best season for an Indiana wrestler since 2017. Rooks went 29-11 and reached the Round of 12 at his third career NCAA Championships. This was the furthest an Indiana Wrestler had gone in the tournament since 2017 when Nate Jackson got eighth place at 184 lbs. Rooks also finished in fifth place at the Big Ten Championships.Red, an Indiana native, returns to his home state after completing his highly successful collegiate wrestling career at Nebraska this past spring. At Nebraska, Red was a standout in the lineup at 141 lbs. throughout his entire career from 2016-2022. Red was a three-time NCAA All-American ––– earning sixth place at the 2021 NCAA Championships, as well as eighth place in 2019 and seventh place in 2018. In total, he was a five-time NCAA Championships qualifier from 2018-2022. Additionally, Red earned multiple podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships over the years. He finished in second place in 2019, third in 2020, fourth in 2021 and seventh place in 2018. For his Cornhusker career, Red had a 98-46 overall record and a 39-20 dual record. He won 22 bouts via fall with five tech falls and nine major decisions to his name. The move to the Indiana coaching staff is Red’s first coaching role in his professional career. Prior to competing at Nebraska, Red had a legendary high school wrestling career. He attended New Palestine High School where he wrestled for coach Chad Red Sr. Red went 183-0 in his prep days, including being a four-time state champion. He was deemed the top 132-pounder in the country according to the Asics FloRankings in the class of 2016. He won the 2015 FloNationals crown, was the 2014 Super 32 champion and 2014 Fargo Junior Cadet Nationals champion, all at 126-lbs. 13. Topic #4A: Injured or ineligible Q: Are good wrestlers that are injured or procedurally ineligible factored in to the scoring process? --Yes, if a 4A, 3A, or 2A underclassman reached at least semi-state last year and misses the state tournament series this year due to injury or due to being procedurally ineligible (i.e. transfer rules), their previous year's score is factored into their team's score for this year. The same is true in 1A for any underclassman that reached at least regional last year. Q: Why aren't additional injuries considered? --Unfortunately, injuries are a part of wrestling and the qualification process involves some luck. It would be impossible to consider all injury situations and this is where the committee has voted to draw the line so that there is a balance between genuine competition and the predictive scoring process. Topic #4B: "Those scores don't seem fair" (responses to questions about perplexing scores during the qualification process) Q: Why does an average level team have a similar score to a top-level team after sectional or regional? --All that is measured after sectional is placement in the top 6 and qualification for regional. There is no difference between a sectional 4th place guy and a sectional 1st place guy at this point. Plus, recall that underclassmen score more than seniors. Also, in 4A and 3A specifically, the biggest scoring doesn't happen for top teams until semi-state. For these reasons, a lesser team with many underclassmen advancing to regional can have a score in line with top teams the first week or two of the tournament. Q: At what point in the individual tournament series do the qualifying scores become meaningful? --In 1A, scores are quite meaningful after sectional already. There will be some further shuffling after regional, but contenders will have already put themselves in position. Positions will then be mostly decided after regional in 1A. --In 2A, scores are somewhat meaningful after sectional, much more meaningful after regional, and further finalized after semi-state. --In 3A and 4A, scores are largely meaningless after sectional. The list of contenders will be clearer after regional. However, the biggest weekend in these classes is not until semi-state. We won't really know the cream of the crop until then. Q: Why does a team that we beat during the season have a higher score than my team? (several possible answers) --It may be too early in the state tournament series to fairly evaluate scores (see previous 2 questions' answers). --The team you beat during the season may have more underclassmen coming back and their tournament performance suggests they are expected to be better than you next year. If a team is at a similar level to you this year and has 3 or 4 more starters returning than you, there is a high probability they will be better than you next year and the qualifying scores should reflect that. --THE QUALIFICATION PROCESS IS A COMPETITION. Just as during the season, you have to earn the points you get. Upsets, injuries, underperformance, and bad draws can all have a negative impact, while a strong performance can slot you higher than people might expect.

  15. Here is the final Team State qualification leaderboard for 2024. Teams highlighted have earned automatic bids into the event next year. That's the 3 best semi-state winners plus the next 3 best scores in 4A and all 4 semi-state winners plus the next 4 best scores in 1A, 2A, and 3A. (Note: The final 2A spot came down to the 3rd tiebreaker (most underclass ticket rounders) after points, most underclassmen, and most underclass state qualifiers were equal.) The final 2 berths in 4A and the final 4 berths in 1A, 2A, and 3A will be voted on in December. Teams with a star (*) next to their school name had injury points added in. 17. Is the only option to weigh-in for ISWA freestyle state on Friday night? No potential Saturday morning weigh-ins? We're starting to work on kids doing a freestyle season, but most of them also run track, and that Friday night is the ACAC conference track meet. I'm thinking they just may be screwed for doing state.
  18. Is Time travel real, is AI trying to take over, or are Chinese operatives trying to rig the team state decision?!?!?
  19. Here is the Team State qualification leaderboard through Semi-State. Classification assignments are now finalized. The IHSAA released its data and the only changes were South Bend Adams moving up to 4A and Decatur Central dropping to 3A. Only a few points are available at state, but there's still some drama for the 6th spot in 4A and the 8th spot in 2A and 1A. (6 automatic wildcards in 4A, 8 automatic in the other three classes). DON'T FORGET: Send your injury or transfer info by Thursday at the latest. 20. Wrestlers from all over will converge upon State College, Pennsylvania Friday and Saturday for one of 18 coveted spots on the Olympic team. Seven wrestlers with Indiana ties will look to call themselves Olympians after the dust settles on Saturday evening. Men's Freestyle At 65kg there are two entries from Indiana in Nick Lee and Jesse Mendez. Lee is coming in as the top seed, while Mendez is the 11th seed. This weight is not qualified for the Olympics yet, so the winner here will go to Turkey with hopes of getting a qualifying spot. Lee won the spot last year and wrestled at Worlds, but did not qualify the spot. He potentially see Penn State teammate Beau Bartlett or 2023 NCAA champ Andrew Alirez to make the best of three finals. Moving up to 97kg we will see Christian Carroll attempt to make the team. He qualified at the Last Chance Qualifier a couple weeks ago and slots in as the 9th seed. He will have Iowa's Anthony Cassioppi in the first round with the winner getting former Olympic medalist J'den Cox in the quarters. At heavyweight Mason Parris will sit out until the finals on Saturday. He will away the challenge tournament winner in a best of three series due to winning a bronze medal at last year's world championships. It will be very fitting to see Parris in Paris this summer. Women's Freestyle Three wrestlers will look to earn spots on the team in Women's Freestyle. All of the women's weights are qualified for the Olympics which means winning here will get you a trip to Paris. At 50kg the Queen of Granger Sarah Hildebrandt will be sitting out until Saturday's best of three finals. She has medaled multiple times on the world stage and looks to make her second Olympic team. Kayla Miracle will be in the best of three series at 62kg awaiting the winner of the challenge tournament. She was an Olympian in 2021 and qualified the weight again for the Olympics at the Pan Am qualifier. Lastly, Yorktown's Alara Boyd will look to earn a spot at 68kg. She comes in as the 5th seed in the challenge tournament. She has multiple world medals and will be a threat to make the best of three series against Amit Elor. 23. Mishawaka royalty made a surprise appearance at RTC tonight. State champion & University of Michigan wrestler Joseph Walker, state runner-up & Michigan commit Zar Walker, and West Liberty’s Christian Chavez were all back in the room! Excited to get some of our college alumni back in Mishawaka this summer
  24. It's difficult to compare domestic match ups with international match ups given familiarity etc. And that Amine result is a bit of an anomaly because Yazdani was injured. But fair enough. I probably got a bit too carried away though still stand by the fact I think healthy Yaz techs everyone in the US below DT and Brooks. Hopefully we see the best Yazdani and the best Brooks (and everyone else) and the rest will take care of itself. The US team looks weaker than I can remember for a long time but I am sure you will find a way to beat us anyway lol
  25. In Arizona, the girl had to petition the state to allow her to compete in the boys state tournament. With the skill rapidly increasing i doubt we'll see much of it since the competition will level out pretty soon.
