  1. I think that every coach is different and many of them do not make the quality of a wrestling team the deciding factor where they will get a job. In these times I think a job as an educator would be the bigger reason for the move from a small school or any school to a bigger school. Two really good coaches that came to my mind that didnt change school for the quality of the team are Jake Harreld: Went from Carmel( 4000 kids, Perennial Sectional and Regional Champions) to Fishers... a compeltely brand new school with only one wrestler with any experience. Cale Hoover: Went from Hamilton Southeastern (3800 kids at the time) to Center Grove (2200)
  2. I think we need a petition ... or something i mean does anyone know who the guy was who used to play the organ? He used to get so into it. It seriously made the finals 10x better.
  3. Sliga has to have had one the most impressive freshman seasons ever. I dont think he had the best, but probably top 5 ever. Even though he took third, he lost a very tight match to atwood, and not taking anything from johnson jones, but had mitch not got caught at semi state we very well may have seen the first of four state championships last saturday. I mean he took johnson jones down twice and cut him each time, and was up 4-2 at the time he got stuck ... but it's in the past now and Mitch's freshman career is still one of the best ever
  4. lets see if willis is supposed to be better than McMurray and Vlahos combined then shouldn't willis atleast have a couple of championships by now? I mean when Sean was a sophmore he was in willis's shoes. He knocked off a two time state champ going for his third title. So looking at where willis is now, compared to where mcmurray was then... idk i think that willis has his work cut out for him to become nearly twice as good as mcmurray... but hey thanks coach for just heaping a load of pressure on your kid
  5. sliga didnt cut at all for 189 he weighed 188 for state after drinking several gatorades and eating several subway sandwichs. He is probably going 215 next year, he doesnt plan on cutting any weight.
  6. I feel like duckworth knew with about 45 seconds left it was over. When they went out of bounds he just knelt down and waved off the trainer... Was he hurt? It is totaly possible that he was hurt, but I feel like it was settling in
  7. I talked to willis's drilling partner after the championship match... he said willis was 50% at best
  8. "Sucks balls for Vlahos. I agree. We will never know, but it is unfair to throw Tyler under the bus. He doesn't deserve any criticism. He is about the best kid that has been through our program in 5 years. " WOW so he is better than wright? or even the other mcginleys ?
  9. I can't remember the last time they had the organ playing during the state finals while they would do the face offs but it was one of my favorite memories. It was much better than having to listen to thunderstruck three times.
  10. i agree that the top individuals will do very well, but the depth is just not there this year compared to last year. Look at how many seniors graduated fromthe new castle semi state last year and how that changed the quality of this years class of wrestling. Don't get me wrong I believe we have the potential to put 10 guys in the finals, but where I look to see where the 2nd 3rd and 4th place guys in the SS place in state to make my judgement about the quality of the SS. I counted and I think we had 19 guys place in state that did not win the New Castle Semi State Last year with 2 champs who didn't win the SS and one runner up in state who didn't win the SS.
  11. After watching the NC semistate i felt like it was way down in competition this year. Many great wreslters graduated last year and I feel like this year is a down year for the Semi State
  12. I would be very hesitent to use the formula for competition to be who has two or less losses. My old school has (in my opinion) one of the top 3 189 pounders in the state and i would not say his weight class is the toughest. There is a kid with 16 losses and 20 losses in that bracket. Look at the Mcgill and Cosgrove battle, they both had 3+ losses heading to state that year because they had wrestled so many times. I would venture to say 125, and 171 could be the deepest weights.
  13. haha i think i was five at the time and i dont think there is anything anyone wants to remember about a 18-6 shalacking
  14. Im curious about the number of people who attend the state finals in wrestling compared to other sports. I feel like i was once told the actual finals match was voted the number one high school sports championship match to see in indianapolis. I feel like it has to be around 30,000 + with the three sessions combined.
  15. I feel like we all have our own memories of the best times at state. There is a plethora of memories that I have from state that are all so inspiring. My favorite would be my come from behind victory in OT to place 5th last year. But the most intense and memremable moments would probably be paul young's escape in OT for the championship, and of course the greastest indiana high school match of all time... Dolly and Maurer... hands down the best ever.
