  1. i guess the state will have to go back to the old system where each sect, reg, semi, counted and basically if you had seven strong kids you would win state. all this bitching just takes away how special indiana wrestling is. we compare all other sports that are in class to wrestling. I dont get it- football, basketball, baseball all have to rely on each other during the game. wrestling on the other hand it is me vs him you vs i it- bottom line- the best wins at the end . Now the debate possibly about a small school team and a big school team i dont really think it matters there either Yorktown,Belmont, MD would be in the small group and beat teams like Whitko, Garrett, and Peru. We will probably have to go back to the old system because of funding, plus some kids might like it so they can get a break during the week with cutting. Whatever happens, the school systems are in trouble and being a Basketball state i don't think any program is save. Good luck to all wrestlers big or small giv'em hell !
  2. Decbell i agree once you see Yorktown on paper the look real solid, after the result from last year i am sure Yorktown is jumping at the bit to have revenge. If Yorktown wins, do you think they have a chance against Mishawaka? i not real sure on the line up of the cavemen and i know there are other schools in the path but it would be great to see that match up since there as been so much discussion on big school small school stuff but again they have to get past those braves and they always find a way to make it interesting. By the way, big school vs small school what is your prediction for the Whitko Homestead match up? maybe you could post there line ups to compare. Thank you
  3. first of all you didnt answer my question class or no class? if it is class then i am sure you can get enough people to DONATE a runner-up trophy for the carroll sectional I do have kids and i do discuss what would be best for everyone that is involved. Since you are new parent congrats and i hope you can to be able to coach and run this web site as your child gets older and more involved in things. I would hope that the state has done some research on the class thing or do you have an idea if it is a discussion with the ihsaa and if so how close is it ? Being relatively new to indianamat, How often does this discussion come up and does it just become a pissing match or is there a real push for it I agree it is always the kids that work hardest has the best chance to be a champion. If it is his team, parents, school, or especially his coach that puts him on top of the podium it doesnt really matter how many kids are in his school because he is a champion!!!! By the way Y2, how many boxes of wheaties does McCray eat? Damn he is a stud!!!
  4. I guess i am confused. Are you for class wrestling or the way it is? reading some of your responses i dont get it. Are we just a bunch of old guys that say "if there was class in my day i would have 4x state championships" I would hope that it matters to the kids, they are the ones doing the work to get there. Maybe we should stick with discussions that we can control, Heck maybe there wont even be indiana high school wrestling in the future. If it does stick around i know the state wont hand out 5x more medals, etc Unless you fund it
  5. I wanted to know what our state champs would say i would bet they would be upset if they had to "share" the Hwt title with four other people. If i recall in 1974 garrett has a sign that states 1a champ and if you talked to those people they would say state champs too that isn't may complaint. I like the idea if i was a champ i am the champ of the whole state. Exposure and getting your name out is pretty easy with all the devices out there so if you are good everybody knows. Y2, you and your staff do a wonderful job helping that out. I strongly believe it is the coach and how he runs his program. If he has a great supporting cast that is a big plus. The best thing i love about wrestling is you don't have to be born a speciman. Any size, shape, or talent God gives you can use and develop it into being a champion. With that being said, speed, strength, and size wouldn't hurt either. I just like it the way it is no class but it would probably help more programs and wrestlers if it was class. I guess there is always golf
  6. Sarah Hildebrant Penn place second at Mish Sect. Great job ladies and Goodluck
  7. y2 you need to come up with a survey on what past state champions would say about class wrestling. I would like to think that a champion would want to say i am a state champ of all not 1a, 2a, etc. then if we would have class who would be the best 103,112 etc. we would not know. does anyone have any information about class in other states on how many kids compete such as is there only a certain amount of 103,112 etc. for example how many rounds they would have and would there be a lot of ff. Has far as the school size there are at least 4 or 5 - five a (football schools) that can't fill a 14 team roster that i am aware of. If size is the difference then penn should dominate and mish should have the back seat. Well there was a comment about small schools not being in the finals in the past ten years. 15+ years ago where was mishawaka, did they have wrestling? MD , Belmont, and Delta were powerhouses then. For the answer of what did those schools like HN,Roncalli, etc do I would ask Mish,Yorktown, etc, what they did to change it around. I would like to maybe have a small school team competition but then instead of Mish it would be MD. I have not yet been to a individual tourn. yet where the best wrestler doesn't win regardless where they are from. I thought everything was proven on the mat. I could agree maybe a good athlete may get abused at a small school but i dont see a 103 pounder dominating on the football field the athlete just becomes a well rounded stud
  8. Since there is a shake-up in the teams competing it would be great if whitko would wrestle bellmont instead of concordia especially since one-whs and fw cord has already faced each other and two-bellmont kids may face whs kids at semi state
  9. Great coach Matt Koontz, state champ, Purdue wrestler, believe 10 years coaching at Whitko Young coaching staff Matt Elridge. Frank Bumgardner,Steve Zimmerman and Brett Bailey. All the coaches involved youth and Middle School programs. For a 2a football school, It is awesome to be able to compete against the bigger schools. Whitko is very fortunate to have such a good program
  10. Whitko wins second straight Luers Invite Whitko 54 Southside 12 Whitko 65 North Miami 9 Whitko 42 Heritage 30 Whitko 59 Maconaquah 19 Chamionship Round Whitko 35 Lawrence Central 31
  11. I would have to agree with the strength of schedules but HN has wrestled Bellmont and Whitko will wrestle in the Bellmont Invit. (Mish,Perry Meridian,Penn, and Bloom South) Jan 9. The new castle semi rankings have Lawrence Central's 285, 215, and 152 returning has SSQ. Their 103 is stated ranked at #16. If someone had the individual results for the Bloom South match it would give us some idea if HN or Whitko had a shot at Lawrence Central. Anybody know why Leo dropped out?
  12. Thank you Mr. Carson for the team listing. Do you have an idea what pools each team will be in or is that determined at that coaches meeting? Would like to see HN and Whitko have another opportunity to wrestle again especially if they would be battling for the championship for your well ran invit. Love the concession stand !
  13. Fort Wayne Luers Kennerk Invit begins at 10:oo a.m. according to their web site. I sorry for the type O for Heritage fans.
  14. according to huntingtoWn north web site the teams are fw luers, huntingtoWn north, north miami, broad ripple, leo, hertiage, lawrence central, northrop, and whitko. there should be another team but was not listed.
  15. Whitko 49 Bishop Dwenger 24 Whitko 48 Wawasee 25 Whitko 61 Hamilton Heights 14 Whitko 51 Columbia City 25
  16. new castle delphi LN norwell yorktown homestead martinsville
  17. Phillips and Tsirtsis had a stellar year. They will no doubt have stellar careers but is there any newcomers that will shine this year. Any predications? Or maybe someone that didn't make the lineup last year-----Younger Schendel ? Levi Moss ? Isaiah Bradley? Sarah Hildebrandt-Congrats Sarah Time will tell
  18. thanks for the imfo is there any other teams that you or anyone else have heard of that is ranked in the top 30 that are having a rebuilding year?
  19. This debate could last forever. If girls can compete then they should be able to compete. The mat will take care of itself. Coming from a psycho dad with no girls I can't uderstand why you would want your daughter to wrestle but the bottom line is the girls opponent has a bit to deal with. Hey You Beat A Girl! no love from the team or Man you just got beat by a girl NO REAL LOVE FROM THE TEAM. If a girl wants to wrestle then let it happen and let the best person win
  20. Good job on the team rankings. A team to watch out for is Whitko. They lost to Belmont in the regional team finals last year with six freshman in the lineup. 42-15 Good test will be at the Wawasee SD 11/28 #15 Portage and Hamilton Hts Good luck to everyone this year and prove it on the mat
