  3. trackwrestling.com already has a gold member that offers more features for payment. But, I think if you charge for general viewing online you would lose 95% of viewers. The video quality is certainly not worth it, yet. To many dropped signals, etc. This is not broadcast level TV we are talking about... yet. When the quality gets to that level I think then a low scale pay for view would be appropriate but again you would still lose many viewers. IMO the best way to make funds through viewership is by paid advertising during breaks of matches and etc... I also like the idea of each school being able to sell tickets and earning a portion of profits of those ticket sales to go towards the team entrance fee. And if a team can sell enough tickets their team entrance fee is waived. I would like to see a contest for team fan spirit. What if team's fans were singing school fight songs like college teams, and/or teams brought their school bands and cheerleaders to pump up their fan crowd between matches!!!
  4. Penn's Zack Davis at 120 not at 113 Penn's Kade Maggart HWT (Currently Ranked 4th in state)
  5. Having the tourney on trackwrestling.com and having video feeds was a great thing for this tourney! Trackwrestling.com it appears is constantly improving the way they track live tourney action. Having used them for many years to follow tourneys I could not attend in person, I continue to be impressed with them as a service.
  6. I believe Penn's 152 Trevor Manspeaker is 20-0
  7. Based on their results in this tourney vs common opponents in class 3A, Perry Meridian & Penn are the top two teams in class 3A.
  8. I picture Kade Maggart of Penn being in the top 8 some place in the HWT rankings. ;D
  9. One thing we can agree on is that neither one of us believes the other understands what each other are trying to say. I have not witnessed the problems you have described. I have seen the process work well for varsity teams. An issue like you described should be a rarity to happen because of the anger/ire it would invoke from all the schools involved. (Not saying it would never happen, just that IMO it would not be a common occurrence.) Yes, I agree it should be monitored. I disagree it is a ongoing "problem". Meanwhile, you have apparently missed several actual suggestions by myself and other posters in past posts in this thread about things that could be done to help improve JV wrestling itself within Indiana. Do you or others have thoughts on those ideas for improvement or your own ideas, or are you just wanting to vent complaints about varsity matches?
  10. What I hear you ranting when giving specifics is about is one school who IYO messed up a single tourney but you making a blanket statement about it hurting all of "JV" wrestling. The two subjects are very different because.... in the large wrestling teams who have the numbers of skilled wrestlers to have a Varsity B squad... the majority of those Varsity B team wrestlers would be... in any other program... VARSITY STARTERS. What you describe are wrestlers from a smaller program sending a JV skilled levels set of wrestlers to Varsity duals. I don't think anyone advocates that happening. Any coach foolish enough to do that will probably not be invited to very many dual tourneys in the future once word has gotten around. The problems for JV wrestling is the lack of numbers of JV tourneys. Another problem is many teams do not have the staff to split coaches to send wrestlers to different tourneys on the same dates. If Thursdays and Saturdays are the overwhelmingly largest days used for varsity matches maybe more JV tourneys could be scheduled for a different day of the week. I also like the idea of charger.dad of allowing smaller teams to mix their wrestlers at JV matches to make a full team. In Minnesota this was even done at a Varsity level for small schools where they combined for some specific sports to create a full team in conditions where they would not have been able to field a full squad alone. It was called a co-op team. Two of my sons wrestled on a co-op middle school and high school teams in Minnesota before we moved here to Indiana.
  11. Wow, couldn't disagree more with almost every statement made here... Greco wrestling skills absolutely DO NOT hurt you in folkstyle. Yes, guts and high gut turns work in greco, so do arm drags, duck unders and many other moves that are very useful in all 3 styles of wrestling. Greco has the least participation of the 3 styles because of 2 reasons IMO... 1) Many wrestlers and parents are afraid of the throws seen in greco. 2) Many wrestlers cannot adapt to wrestling while not being able to attack the legs. Why any coach would recommend against learning greco and remove a whole range of potential useful wrestling tools from a wrestler's arsenal I will never understand. Take a look at high school and college level folkstyle national champions. 99% of those wrestlers wrestle all 3 styles (yes, including greco).
  12. The Penn Vs Mishawaka rivalry makes for one of the best dual matches every year. Both teams, no matter their records, will give their all. Looking forward to seeing this outstanding match-up!
  13. I think terminology is the only real problem here. What some would call a JV team is much better described as a Varsity B team. If a given team's Varsity B squad not only can hang with other schools Varsity teams and in fact have won several Varsity tournaments I think it is obvious the Varsity B team is deserving to compete with other Varsity teams and any individual wrestler wins/losses should be treated as Varsity wins/losses. I know for certain at least one of Penn's current Varsity B team members was state ranked for several weeks. I believe others have been as well in the past few years. That should give an idea of the strength of several these school's Varsity B squads. Many of these Varsity B team wrestlers would otherwise be a starter for many of the teams in the state. It would be nice to see coaches talking about how to increase the number or wrestlers who can compete and how to grow a wrestling program instead of how to limit competition between skilled wrestlers.
  14. This is a heartwarming story that is a proud moment for wrestling! Link - http://97rockonline.com/tennessee-middle-school-wrestler-shows-true-sportsmanship-video/
  15. College Freshman Tyler Chapple (formally of Penn H.S.) placed 4th at 63k.g. in Greco in the University Division. The finish earned Chapple a invite to the Olympic training site in Colorado for a 5 day camp and a special tourney to compete for a spot on the USA World Greco Team Trials Team. Did any other Indiana wrestlers earn a trip in this division?

  17. Yeah, what they said! I like the design too. Bold... something new and completely different from the basic designs!

  19. Don't be so sensitive. Not complaining, stating an opinion. Hope we still allow those even if they differ from mods... don't we?
  20. As stated on the Genius page Penn has a "Varsity 2" team that would have placed in the top 30 on its own. Add the 8 Varsity returners and the others from "Varsity 2" and Penn's spot at 10 is likely VERY under rated.
  21. I thought these were very interesting last year. I think the formula still needs a little bit of tweeking for instance as was mentioned with large teams being able to reload in a way not measured by the rating. Based on returnees and performance in the off season Perry Meridian looks very strong. IMO the ratings system is placing Hamilton Southeastern, Center Grove & Cathedral too high on this list. Teams that are under rated IMO are Penn, Mishawaka & Bellmont. Further down the list I think Jimtown is also very under rated.
  22. Wow, quite a few.... Are there any more that didn't get on the list? Will the be a update to the final update to the college list soon? (Hint, Hint Joe C.!!!)
  23. Being from Minnesota I have watched Apple Valley's success for many years. Recruiting - The teams that are among the best in the nation do not have to recruit wrestlers. Wrestlers and their parents will come to those teams on their own just like parents search out the best schools for academics and neighborhoods to feel safe and reside. This happens for coaches too. Young talented coaches will want to be a part of a winning program. Once a program has a winning reputation it is often a self fulfilling circle to stay that way. Feeder Programs - To be able to reload year after year a strong youth program & middle school program keeps a high school program strong year after year. Parent & community/school involvement - Parents willing to volunteer for fundraisers, working tourneys, being refs, table workers, coaching youth. Communities & schools offering practice and event space etc, helping to promote the sport within the community. The is never enough funds for everything. Without unpaid volunteers a program is doomed. Commitment from the organization to being a year round activity is also key. A program that is only active during the folkstyle season will not be as successful as programs that wrestle all 3 styles of wrestling including freestyle & greco and wrestle the whole year round. Coaches - Coaches must have passion/enthusiasm, understand that coaching is often a 24 hour a day job and be able and willing to delegate some duties to other coaches and to their volunteers and the really lucky coaches will have a very understanding and supportive spouse.
