  1. Thanks for working on the rankings list. Clicking on the "Rankings" tab still reflects the October 30 list. I was under the impression from your posting that there is a newer rankings list that should be available to review. Did I misunderstand your posting?
  2. Which "U of I"? There are a few of them.
  3. Thanks for the update. I got to go watch this in PA last year but couldn't make to the "close to home" event this year. Last year's wrestling was amazing and I suspect this year was amazing as well. Thanks again for all the info!!! Much appreciated!
  4. Thanks for the great update. Congratulations to Raley, Tsirtsis, Chad Welch, and Sliga for going 7-0. And all the wrestlers for an outstanding showing. I only see 6 matches for IN Blue. Did I overlook something or did IN Blue only wrestle 6 times?
  5. Flag etiquette dictates that the flag be in the light. http://www.usa-flag-site.org/etiquette.shtml Federal law stipulates many aspects of flag etiquette. The section of law dealing with American Flag etiquette is generally referred to as the Flag Code. Some general guidelines from the Flag Code answer many of the most common questions: * The flag should be lighted at all times, either by sunlight or by an appropriate light source. * The flag should be flown in fair weather, unless the flag is designed for inclement weather use. * The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal. * The flag should not be used for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top. * The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard. * The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations. * The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind placed on it, or attached to it. * The flag should never be used for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything. * When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously. * The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary. * When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.
  6. Great comment! I was amazed at that. More than one person commented on that. It just goes to show you that the singing of the National Anthem has become more about the singer than the song. :-(
  7. Cool. Chad Welch wrestling in two weight classes!!! JK. I know you meant DOUG Welch at 145.
  8. Bennett and Welch was fantastic. Would have loved to see 15 more seconds. Would love to see them go 2 out of 3!!!
  9. Singing of the National Anthem should be about the song, not the singer. Having been in the military I learned a lot of US history and respect for the flag, the men and women who allow us to fly it, and Star Spangled Banner. The best versions (IMHO) are the straight forward, sing it as it was written, versions. If the singer sings a little off key, is pitchy, varies the pace, doesn;t have a great voice, etc, I don't mind so much. Especially our young people. What DOES really irritate me are people who do not stand at attention (or at least stand still), don't hold their hand over their heart (or at least keep them motionless at there sides), or don't show the proper attentiveness and respect during the 3 minutes or so of our National Anthem. The coaches need to school their wrestlers on proper respect (and someone should have stopped the wrestler who felt is bouncing around was more important than the singing and paying respects to the flag and country). I'm not much for showboating the singing of the National Anthem. And one more small thing to you singers out there....... Get ALL of the words right! Oh, almost forgot. Keep the spiked heels on the hardwoord, not on the wrestling mat! I was almost expecting to see littles holes in the mat after she walked off.
  10. I was very pleased to see Drake Stein win State. He is a class act and wins/loses graciously. Tonight's little victory fist pumping while still on the mat is the biggest outburst I have seen from him (good or bad). Not nearly the display as from some of the other champs, although the ones I saw (up through 171) were pretty reasonable, considering what they had just accomplished. As for the Welch twins, great run this year. Both lost to the eventual state champs by just 2 points. Heck, even Little Welch lost to the state champ in his weight class. All of the wrestlers who made it to state accomplished something far more failed to match. Looking forward to seeing how the Welch twins improve for next year. They keep getting better, which is something we should all strive for.........
  11. The first question to be answeredat Conseco! It is ShaveD ice! Congratulations to all the winning predictions. :-)
  12. I agree with Dream team. I love seeing Sean add his comments on here, which is a pretty risky thing to do since it is so easy to have your written words misunderstood. Sean - Good luck at State. Looking forward to watching you wrestle.
  13. Great comments!!! Love the positives. Lots of great sportsmanship happened, and never gets the attention that the bad sportsmanship does. I'm proud every time I see my nephews (or any wrestler) give an extra handshake, pat on the back, or word of encouragement, win or lose.
  14. Thanks for the excitement this year!
  15. Sims wins 4-2 Doug Welch 17-0 Chad Welch 16-0
  16. How can you possibly not have a sense of urgency if you are .4 over on one of the scales? Wow. ??? Strange comment.
  17. I think you mean "ShaveD Ice." : Thanks for the thought!!!!
  18. Final round 103. Vanhook vs Hall 112. Kuhn vs Wedding 119. Griesemer vs Moody 125. Sulawske vs Brown 130. Melliff vs. Schroeder 135. Rusher vs. Konrath 140. Chamberlain vs. Raben 145. Welch vs. Sims 152. Welch vs. Marshall 160. Weikel vs. Oser 171. Weiss vs. Stein 189. Price vs. Rosebrock 215. Froehlic vs. Adams Hwy. Hammelman vs. Daugherty 145 and 171 both have #2 vs #3 ranked wrestlers in the state rankings. Should be exciting.
  19. Not there, but here's what I know so far. Castle wins at 152 16-0. Castle wins at 160. Sounds like lots of JV and forfeits ahead, helping to ensure a MD-Castle final. The MD-Castle round should be good. It will start at 160 and (again, from what I heard) John Sims was at 152 the first round, which would mean the last round of the night for the team Regional Championship end at 152. If it is close at the end it could come down to a Sims vs Welch last matchup of the night at 152. Question - If a wrestler starts the night at 152 can he wrestle the next round at 145 (assuming he had been wrestling 145 in his last dozen or so matches and weighed in at what would qualify for 145)?
  20. Credit goes to Wikipedia, the source of amazing quantities of inane information!! And sure, we can party it up at Conseco. We should all find each other hanging around the Shave(x) Ice stand. BTW, I had one of those icy treats in Venezuala, the one with the condensed milk on top, and I couldn't eat it. Just too strange.......
  21. From Wikipedia!!! Sorry...... A snow cone is a paper cone filled with crushed ice topped with flavored sugar water. Due to the popularity of snowballs, many snow cones are now made like snowballs with shaven ice and a sugar syrup and the terms are often used interchangeably. In Cuba and many Cuban neighborhoods, they are known as "granizados," after the Spanish word granizo for hailstones. In Miami neighborhoods, they are often sold in conjunction with other frozen confections in ice cream trucks and stands throughout the city. A classic Cuban flavoring for granizados is anise, made from extracts of the star anise spice. Child enjoying a "Piragua" in Puerto Rico In Puerto Rico and many Puerto Rican neighborhoods, they are named "Piragua", because they are made in pyramid shapes and agua means water in Spanish. Most Puerto Rican snow cone vendors use street snow cone carts instead of fixed stands or kiosks. During the summer months in Puerto Rican neighborhoods, especially in New York and Philadelphia, "piragua" carts are often found on the streets and attract many customers. In Mexico, California, Texas and the Southwestern United States, a finely shaved and syruped ice is called a raspa, or raspado.[1] Raspar is Spanish for "scrape"; hence raspado means, roughly, "scraped ice." Raspas come in a wide range of fruit flavors and classic Mexican flavors, such as leche (sweetened milk with cinnamon), picocito (lemon and chili powder), chamoy (fruits and chili sauce), cucumber, guanabana, guava, pistachio, tamarind, among others. In the Dominican Republic and many Dominican neighborhoods, snow cones are called "frío frío". "Frío" is the Spanish for "cold". Snow cone vending truck in Arizona Snow cones are sometimes confused with "Italian ices" or "water ices", but some water ice lovers distinguish between the two: As Eva Chen explained, snow cones are generally flavored after production, at the point of sale, whereas water ices are flavored as the ice is made. In El Salvador and other countries of the Region, they are known as "Minutas" In Peru they are known as "cremolada" and in some parts of the country as "raspadilla". In Venezuela they are called Cepillados and are topped with condensed milk. In Chile is called "mermelada con hielo" (ice jam), is a local curiosity that is widely consumed in Rancagua, in central Chile, rather than leading juice flavoring was jam In South Asia, snow cones are enjoyed as a low-cost summer treat, often shaved by hand and served on a stick or a cup. In Pakistan it is often referred to as 'Gola ganda' (Urdu: گولا گنڈا) and in India as 'Chuski'. in Gujarati it's call "baraf no golo" [edit] See also Syrups used for Hawaiian shave ice * Snowball - Ice shaved from a block that is fluffy, not granular * Italian ice - Water ice * Snow cream - A cream or snow and dairy based dessert * Kakigori - Japanese shaved ice dessert * Patbingsu - Korean shaved ice dessert * Piragua - Puerto Rican frozen treat. * Halo halo - Filipino shaved ice dessert * Slush (beverage) - A shaved ice drink * Slurpee / Slush Puppie - Brand name slushes * Snow - Type of precipitation * slushy - used for slang Can't wait to get to Conseco and check the sign there to see if they are "Shave" or "Shaved." LOL
