I must be a die hard wrestling fan because I can not wait until Saturdays . Not only do I love watching my son wrestle but I love watching others from around the state . There is only about 8 weeks to compete so that is hardly a sacrifice to enjoy this great sport . At least at a super dual if a wrestler gets a forfeit they most likely to get at least a couple matches either way . It very discouraging for a wrestler to train , make weight have friends and family rush out of work travel in traffic and just have a coach withhold a wrestler or bump around or just have a sick kid. Either way they don't get a match. Wrestling is not just a sport it is a culture . It is not for everyone . It was mentioned last night that most of these kids train year round now compared to the past . The biggest reason is because of the parent participation. The parents have to buy in or there are no private wrestling programs or 100.00 shoes . The only benefit I see to a shorter schedule is less times a wrestler has to make weight . Lets wrestle 3 duals in a week making weight 3 x , bet the wrestlers wont like that. Wrestle 1 x a week only benefits the better programs or deeper rooms . Some wrestlers need to get the benefit of several matches in a day and when your kid is a senior , you don't want to see it end . I cant believe it is almost time for sectionals !
