  1. I agree that the line-up adjustments will make the difference. I think Columbus East and Jennings will be very tight with Jeff right on their heels. Here are my finals picks. 103: Floyd and Columbus East - Kennedy 1st 112: Jeff and Jennings County - Shepherd 1st 119: Madison and Columbus East - Taylor 1st 125: Columbus East and Jennings County - Reiker 1st 130: Columbus East and Jennings County - Reiker 1st 135: Columbus East and Jennings County - Reiker 1st 140: Jeff and Columbus East (unless Adams is down then he will be in the finals) - Shuler 1st or Adams 1st if he is here 145: Jeff and Columbus East (unless Adams is here then he will be in the finals with Weekley) - Weekley 1st 152: Jeff and Jennings County or Columbus East (if Adams is here it will be Jeff and Madison) - Browner 1st or Adams 1st if he is here 160: Jeff and Jennings County - Baldwin 1st (but this will be close) 171: Jennings County and Columbus East (if Brierly is at 171) - Wathen 1st (but will be close) 189: this one is kind of open - maybe New Albany and Jennings County but watch out for Curtley of Jeff who is down to 189 - Curtley 1st 215: Jennings County and Jeff - Bass 1st (but will be a good one with Pratt) 285: Jennings County and Columbus East but Dewitt of Jeff could be the spoiler here (he wrestled Collett tough at the Jeff Classic and is improving every week) - Collett 1st I see Columbus East with 8-9 in the finals and 3-4 champs, Jennings County with 8-9 and 4 champs, Jeff with 6-7 and 4 champs, Madison with 2 and 1-2 champs, Floyd Central with 1 and 1 champ, and New Albany with 1. The difference will come down to where the rest of each team places.

  9. A couple others to keep an eye on are 125 Kevim Castro from Jeffersonville and 135 Michael Vazquez from Jeffersonville. Both are very solid. Castro will have matches against Resch and Reiker at the HHC duals and Vazquez will have a match against Gast. I will let you know the results.
  10. A couple of kids to look at for 103 and 112. Kennedy from Floyd Central at 103, was 2010 ISWA freestyle (105) runner-up to Chandler Carroll. It was a good match and he only lost 0-1, 0-4. Damon Kuhn from Reitz at 103, finished 3rd at 2010 ISWA Folkstyle State (105). His only loss was to Chandler Carroll 5-8. He beat Martsoff (Mishawaka) 12-0 and Wise (Pendleton) 8-1. Blake Johns from Reitz at 112. Dont have any info from this past ISWA season, but he is a multi time ISWA state placer with wins in 2009 ISWA Folkstyle State (placed 5th) over Tyler Elmore, Clint Schmith, and Sarah Hildebrandt.

  14. I agree that the level of competition is coming up across the conference. I believe there are currently 10 ranked wrestlers in the conference (and I am sure there will be a few more before the end of the season). Sorry if I missed any names. 112 - Shepherd (11) Jeffersonville 119 - Reiker (12) Columbus East 130 - Reiker (12) Columbus East 135 - Weekley (12) Jeffersonville 171 - Brierly (12) Columbus East; Wathen (11) Jennings County; Marlin (11) Jeffersonville 189 - Bass (11) Jennings County 215 - Collett (12) Jenning County; Pratt (12) Jeffersonville
  15. Made a few adjustments with some new information. There should be some great match-ups this year. 119 Reiker vs Taylor 140 Adams vs Harbin 171 Brierly vs Wathen with Marlin in the mix 189 Balwin vs Bowen 215 Bass vs Pratt 285 Collett vs Curtley or Dewitt (will be a great wrestle-off in Jeffs room) Could be a big year for state qualifiers from the conference. I see 12 weights that have kids with legitimate shots at getting through the semi-state.
  16. Any early thoughts/insights into the HHC this year? I believe it is going to be a tight battle for the top spot between Jeffersonville and Jennings County followed closely by Columbus East. I think Floyd Central and New Albany are still young and fall somewhere in the middle follwed up by Madison, Seymour, and Bedford (not in any specific order). Overall, I think the experience level is coming up and should prove to be a competitve season. Here are estimates of top 4 in each weight class (purely a guess until we see where people end up in weight). 103 1Kennedy Floyd Central 2Nelson Columbus East 3Deleon Jeffersonville 4Hill Seymour 112 1Shepherd Jeffersonville 2Happel Floyd Central 3Engleking Jennings County 4Coomer New Albany 119 1Reiker Columbus East 2Taylor Madison 3Holwager Jennings County 4Ward New Albany 125 1Reiker Columbus East 2Castro Jeffersonville 3Resch Jenings County 4Jamison New Albany 130 1Reiker Columbus East 2Montgomery Jennings County 3Ward New Albany 4Krurer Floyd Central 135 1Marler New Albany 2Gast Jennings County 3Vazquez Jeffersonville 4Garcia Columbus East 140 1Adams Madison 2Harbin Jeffersonville 3Shuler Coumbus East 4Saylor Jennings County 145 1Weekley Jeffersonville 2Baughn Bedford NL 3Holwager Jennings County 4Stillinger Columbus East 152 1Tatgenhorst Jeffersonville 2Ogle Columbus East 3Foster Floyd Central 4Carpenter Seymour 160 1Browner Jeffersonville 2Fish Madison 3O'Connel New Albany 4Sneed Floyd Central 171 1Brierly Columbus East 2Wathen Jennings County 3Marlin Jeffersonville 4Mann New Albany 189 1Baldwin Jennings County 2Bowen Jeffersonville 3Faith New Albany 4Reynolds Bedford NL 215 1Bass Jennings County 2Pratt Jeffersonville 3Young Madison 4Leasor New Albany 285 1Collett Jennings County 2Curtley Jeffersonville 3Biesen Madison 4Sharpe Floyd Central
  17. Just some early thoughts on top 4 at each weight (we shall see where everybody's weight settles in the next few weeks). Going based off of last years finishes and what limited knowledge I have of where some of the wrestlers might be wrestling at. I know there are probably some incoming freshman that aren't on this list that could make a splash, but this is just something to get the discussion going. 103 Matthew Lahue 11 Corydon Caleb Happel 12 Floyd Central if still here or possibly Terrence Kennedy Josh Coomer 11 New Albany "JoJo Delon 9 Jeffersonville 112 Alonzo Shepherd 11 Jeffersonville Zach Thomas 11 Floyd Central Bryan Lowery 10 Charlestown Corbin Hammond New Washington 119 Austin Jamison 10 New Albany Brady Meenach 10 New Washington Dalton Clay Floyd Central Justin Wolf 11 Charlestown 125 Kevim Castro 12 Jeffersonville Cory Neel 12 Christian Academy Michael Krurer 10 Floyd Central Alec Hendershot 12 Providence 130 Tre Marler 10 New Albany Nate Dunn 10 Christian Academy Dakota Bungcayao 10 Providence Jordan Schremp 11 Jeffersonville 135 Lane Massingham 12 New Washington Michael Vazquez 11 Jeffersonville Ethan Banet 12 Christian Academy John Weedle 10 New Albany 140 Renaldo Weekley 12 Jeffersonville Jordan Kaelin 11 Providence Luke Terry 10 Eastern Pekin ??? 145 Tre Harbin 12 Jeffersonville Corey Suddeth 11 Charlestown Patrick Green 11 Corydon Nick Bailey 10 Christian Academy 152 Darien Tatgenhorst 12 Jeffersonville Levi Speth 12 Christian Academy Eric Foster 11 Floyd Central Aaron Dean 11 New Washington 160 Jacob Hall 11 Charlestown Brent Browner 11 Jeffersonville Matthew O'Connell 12 New Albany Shane Sneed 12 Floyd Central 171 Brandon Marlin 11 Jeffersonville Ethan Bowen 12 Charlestown Dalton Shell 11 Providence Luke Coward 10 Christian Academy 189 Nelson Bowen 12 Jeffersonville William Faith 12 New Albany Harlington Rodriguez 12 Charlestown Dylan Johnson 11 Floyd Central 215 Jimmy Pratt 12 Jeffersonville Andrew Sharp 12 Floyd Central Cody Leasor 11 New Albany David Miller 10 Salem 285 Elijah Curtley 11 Jeffersonville or possibly Ryan Dewitt 12 John Slaten 12 Charlestown Caleb Delbridge 12 Christian Academy Austin Duncan 12 Eastern Pekin

  19. At the 2010 State Finals, for the 103 lb class, there were 2 seniors, 3 juniors, 9 sophmores, and 3 freshman. Placement as follows: 1st Phillips 10 2nd Petrov 10 3rd Schroeder 11 4th Hall 12 5th Brooks 10 6th Farrell 9 7th Stevens 12 8th Hamm 11
  20. Here are some interesting statistics with regards to forfeits in each weight class across the 2009-10 IHSAA state tournament. 309 total schools entered into State Tournament Weight # forfeits % of weight class 103 85 28% 112 71 23% 119 49 16% 125 55 18% 130 42 14% 135 29 9.4% 140 27 8.74% 145 24 7.77% 152 36 11.7% 160 32 10.4% 171 27 8.7% 189 35 11% 215 38 12% 285 45 15% I think what is interesting is that obviously 103 would have the most forfeits with 85 (28%). However, 112 had almost as many at 71 (23%), 125 was third with 55 (18%), and 119 had 49 (16%). I am not advocating for or against a weight change as I am not sure a small adjustment to weights will have much of a change anyways. Just wanted to throw some numbers out there.
  21. These are based on last years finishes and who is returning.
