  1. I have coached as well as officiated several young ladys and feel they deserve a place in the sport. They are as tough as many of the guys and to be honest, they have a great deal more sportsmanship than the guys. I have never seen a young lady throw her headgear or throw a temper tantrum leaving the mat. Go get'em girls! Billy Addison Retired Coach IHSAA Official
  2. I officiated a match saturday where a young lady from Daleville showed that she belongs in the sport. She was very tough and did win a few at least the match I did. She pinned her opponent. I was impressed with her technique and strength.
  3. Or it could be the 1st match of the day! Can and has happened, with a no seed draw, it happens more than you would like to see. Im still a fan of at least seperating the top 6 or 8 just to spread them out.
  4. I am a big fan of the NHSCA National Championships. I completely enjoyed the experience and the kids did as well. Coach A
  5. I coach in the same district that St Paris goes to, and actually will see them today at the District 2 in Goshen. Taylor is a well trained never say die wrestler. Down 4-1 with Palmer (St Eds)who is also considered one of the best in the Nation and came back and won 8-5 was amazing. And you wont find a more humble respectfull youngman. Ill take Taylor everyday of the week and twice on sundays! Coach A
  6. I dont feel you can say that one kid works harder than anyone else if you have not seen the other person's work ethic and training. Im just saying that is an unfair bias when trying to pick who you think will win. Your just missing part of the math to be able to make a fair judgement. Both have earned there way, both are worthy, we all have our favorites but if your going to do a study to decide, make sure you have studied both sides before you decide. Just my opinions of course. Coach A
  7. My understanding, (And I was not there) was the Duck - Grimes match was 3-3 in the 3rd that duck didnt look like himself and was struggling a bit. Taking nothing away from Grimes, he came prepared and wrestled well. I hope to see Grimes and Duck in the final. But theres a tall order in the Quarters for Duck with Atwood that should be a dozie! If he is on his game Ill take duck 5-3. Coach A
  8. You heard correct, he is all he is talked up to be and then some. Should be a minimum top 3 if not at the top! I dont know much about the Ayersman kid so I cant say for sure but his chances are VERY good at being State Champ. Coach A
  9. Just my opinions: 103: Phillips UC, Dodd SH, House Co, Brasier EC 112: Mullins NC, Stewart Ru, Findley UC, Woodall Co 119: Leeka T, Catron NC, Feller FC, Sink Sh 125: Clark SD, Williams Sh, Fellers NC, Rynn EC 130: Fellers NC, Hoegeman EC, Hunter Ru, McCoy FC (Hunter and McCoy could flip) 135: Flodder Ba, Brueman Ec, Uphaus CE, Leeka Tri 140: Duncan Ru, Slover NC, Witte SD, Streuwing EC 145: Gessell UC, Bennett NC, Presley EC, Chapman Co 152: Hutchinson EC, Marcum NC, Harrell SD, Riley FC 160: Wasson NC, Hamm SH, Brown EC, Felser SD 171: Duckworth UC, Imfeld EC, Flanery RU, Flectcher Ce 189: Dalton EC, Oneil Mi, Garland Ri, Wisehart K 215: Cole NC, Forman SD, Staat FC, Haugh Mi 285: Poole SH, Jackson Mi, Alafogianis NC, Grey RU Just my thoughts, It was fun trying to work it all out. I have it 7-7 for Champions from each sectional. 8-6 Shenendoah Sectional for 2nds 8-6 South Dearborn Sectional for 3rds 9-5 South Dearborn Sectional for 4ths Thats a +4 advantage for South Dearborn Sectional of getting the most to Semi State. (Dont take it personal people, and yes I know, so and so beat so and so already, well the sun shines on a dogs butt every now and then so I gave some the benifit of the doubt for enterainment purposes just for my own amusement...lol) Coach A
  10. Actually it was 1987, but I did forget to mention mine busted on the way out so I had to have several drainage tubes for about a week to get all the crap out of my bowles. So that may have had something to do with it. Coach A
  11. I dont know either coaches on either side and dont have a comment on the situation with them on the mat, as each official has there limits to when they will hit a coach with a UC, simply in my opinion as a coach for 20 years and as an official for 8 years as well, Its does not matter when the official slaps the mat, its when the official "sees" the fall, once the hand is in motion its all academic at that point if the buzzer goes off, its a fall, no ifs ands or buts! Thats how I have always called it, and until told otherwise by the IHSAA, I will continue to do so. Coach A
  12. Ive had an appendectomy..(Im sure I spelled that way wrong) and it took me a good week to just be able to start bending over, three days to start walking and thats after they made me get up and walk....and you dont want to tear out the inner staples, thats a whole lot of bad news if you push it to fast. Better safe than sorry for sure...take the time to heal right, there are going to be better days for this young man for sure. Coach A
  13. Well said Chris, The team regional is the least of the worries at this point. They could go Team regional next tuesday and Team Semi State on thursday and be back on schedule. Granted thats a great deal of weigh ins and could be a big issue as well. But right now its the individuals that need to get things settled first. Its important to keep the individual tournament on schedule the team schedule will work itself out. Just my thoughts Coach A
  14. I never liked my regional champs having to sit a whole round waiting to wrestle. I think it is a positive and happy to see it come about. I also see some 4's making it out. Some regionals are much weaker than others and it is very possible that some 4's will make it thru. I dont think it makes the 3-4 place match any less important. Neither want to be the guy to wrestle a regional Champ right off the bat, so Im quite sure they both will be working hard to get the win. Just my opinions of course Coach A
  15. I stand corrected.....my bad, Its been a couple years since I was at an indiana event. My appologies! Coach A
  16. Not necessarily true AC, you win your first and lose your second you MUST win that next match as only the top 3 advance from the Regional. Semi State format is 1 Vs Bye and 2 Vs 3. Coach A
  17. Each school usually has there standards as some schools have diffrent set ups, some are on semesters, some trimesters ect. Usually to become eligable once you have been considered ineligable, it is usually at the end of the grading period and sometimes the mid-term depending on the school. Coach A
  18. Coach Peck, I was just hacking on ya, I know when it comes down to it your one of the best at finding the right spots to move your kids into to be sure you have the best possible chances to be under the lights in Indy. Simply a compliment no harm intended. Coach A
  19. UCDAD- Duck must within the 1.5% he is allowed to lose from the 171 or in this case 173 with the 2lbs. He gets 1.5% per week. So according to his body fat test what ever that 1.5% is from 173, thats the limit he will be able to be at come weigh ins. If not he will be inelegiable for 171 and must go up. Its a dirty deed for a coach to call someone on it, but I assure you IT HAS HAPPENED! There are some posts on it dealing with Mishawaka and a couple others . Be safe about it, have duck make 173 flat and call it a day. That way there is no reason to have to deal with any of the crap that some coach may try to pull with this down the line to help there kid out because they cant beat ducky. Coach Peck was giving the suttle hint to watch where he is at, because it has been challenged and Im sure of course that the great mice on the wheel in his head was turning at a high rate of speed to decide what he needs to do to get his kids in the right positions to do well also. This isnt his first Rodeo...lol He has several big sparkly belt buckles to prove it, all in the shape of Indiana..lol Coach A
  20. Missed 2 big ones Warrendad #2 @103 Cody Phillips and #1 @ 171 Mike Duckworth both of Union County. South Dearborn has several well rounded hard nosed kids as well, East Central will have some as well, Batesville has a pretty tough 135 in Flodder and Franklin County has a good 145 in Riley and Union County's Gessell is wrestling well at 145 also. Centervilles Uphaus is a contender and will be in the mix at 135 I believe. Im sure Im missing a bunch as well....but I would expect all the above to make a good showing at regional. Just my thoughts, what do I know I coach in Ohio...but dont hold it against me...lol Coach A
  21. I have a question and Im not trying to be rude, its an honest question as I dont get much info from the area.....who has 103 Cambell from New Castle beat to be c0nsidered a favorite over Phillips of Union County? I know Phillips has beaten #1 Kuhn by Fall, #10 Harvey 5-4 and #12 Todd by fall and since beat the #10 Harvey 6-2, listed they have Cambell beating #15 Petrov and then the #10 112 from Rushville Stewart that I have seen wrestle and just in my opinion I believe Phillips would handle fairly well. Im unaware of what Mr Cambell has done to this point, I dont know what he has done in Freestyle or Greco during the summer....Im just looking for info to be able to make a better more informed decision. I simply dont know anything about Mr Cambell to do that just yet, he may be the better man, I just dont have anything to base that on. Im just curious as to what others reasons are for having him above Phillips. Coach A
  22. The parents of Union County gave these out to everyone in a frame several years ago when I was coaching at UC, it sits on my trophy shelf for all to see. It was a nice gift that Im happy to display. Coach A Talawanda (OH)
  23. In the years that I have know Coach Adams, he has always had the same approach, I would expect nothing less...but you are right, If he is in the hunt, he has the math down to a science and will be sure all is in order...but dont we all! Great Job Coach Adams and the Milan Squad! Coach A Talawanda (OH)
