  1. OK These statistics make no sense. Of course the average public school student ranks at 50%. 50% is the exact middle between 1 and 100. A more comparable static would take the kids from the public schools that have parents who are highly involved in there kids life. IE the ones that care how well there kids do in school and make sure every night that they get their homework done. If you can't do that. Just take the kids who are involved in any extracurricular event and compare their success to home school kids.
  2. Just a little shout out to VanCamp at 102. He lost in the first round and came all the back for 4th. That is not an easy task!
  3. Did Ford wrestle Crary for a true second? If so what was the score. That was a great bracket. I to am a little bias but I have to believe that was one of the toughest weights from top to bottom. Jack had a great day and still ended up 5th but he lost to 2 great kids. He will be hitting the weight room in the off season. He needs to get a little more horsepower! How many of the top 8 will be in HS next year?
  4. I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the caliber of wresting I saw yesterday. I think the future of Indiana wrestling is very bright. It is really nice to see such a high level of competition when you bring all the kids together in one place. Congratulations to all of the boys who did there best yesterday. Success is not always best judged on where you placed but how you wrestled.
  5. 95 - Ryan Ford, Jason Crary, Jack Chastain, Josh Clem, Jacob Gray ( I hope Tommy is in there somewhere) I would say Tommy is the clear favorite. Jack is looking forward to seeing how he stacks up. It should be a fun day. Here is hoping for a decent draw.
  6. I think that part of the problem with team state is that it almost is in competition with individual State. Guys are so focused on the individual state that Team state is secondary. What do you guys think about moving it up in the year. I think it could be cool having it finish up sometime around Christmas.
  7. My son wrestled Micic at Schoolboy State last year. I thought he was as smooth of a wrestler that I have seen at his age. The only problem I saw for him was whether he was going to grow enough to be a ligament 103 this year. Does anyone know if he even has to cut to make 103?
  8. It is funny I was having a similar conversation this week with my sons club coach. My son is in 8th grade and trains with a club in Indy. We we talking about the huge gap between the average wrestler and the top five present. A talented kid can train hard and beet 90% of the guys he goes against in a year or 2. The next five in another year but that last 5 can take a long long time. The hardest part is figuring out what works against those really good guys if you are not able to train with one or two. I wrestled in Indiana and I have no doubt that the top guys are way better now than in the past.
  9. Maybe someone should come up with a better under garment that would protect the back end and cover up the front end! My son and I call the front end ppp. You can fill in what the letters stand for.
  10. Humphrey Wrestling, Practices out of Hamilton Southeastern High
  11. What are some of the most important characteristics of a great wrestler? Both Physical and mental. Maybe give some examples that you have seen in wrestlers that have set them apart.
  12. You need to have your coach come to 1 wrestling practice and go live for 6 minutes. He would more than likely change his mind about that!
  13. We must have it good at Hamilton Southeastern. I know that the football players and the wrestlers are doing the off season weights and conditioning together.
  14. For me this post was more about the wrestling side. Weather a wrestler could play football and keep his wrestling skills up enough to compete at the state level. As far as football coaches blackballing kids. I believe that is few and far between. With football you have to put your best players on the field no matter what. If you don't you are going to lose. You will also find that most of your football coaches love wrestlers. You just need to go to both of the coaches and work out a schedule that satisfies both.
  15. I would say that a lot of the bigger guys are playing both and doing well in both. I just wounder how many of the guys that are below 145 can compete at the State level and play football.
  16. There seems to be a push lately that you can't play football and win a state title in wrestling. Can anyone tell me the guys over the last 5 years or so that placed 1st or 2nd in the state and played football?
  17. Hamilton Southeastern has Humphrey wrestling based out of the School. They have been there for 1 year now. Jim Humphrey is a former Olympic coach. The school is run by his oldest son Jordan. Reece Humphrey is the youngest of the 2 boys. HSE is one of the 2 Fishers schools. You can train all year if that is what you are looking for. You can go to there web sight and check them out. http://humphreywrestling.com
  18. My son wrestled Stevan at Freestyle state this year. That weight was really tough and Steven made it look easy. I was more impressed with him than any other wrestler I saw all year. Great job by a great wrestler. He is as nice and polite as you can get. I love to see good kids do well!
  19. This looks like a Indian kid. Does anyone know where he is from?
  20. Looks like we need to make some trips to PA and see how we stack up!
  21. I saw one by a kid in a blue singlet with a cross on the back. It was a perfect suplex. Does anyone know who he was?
  22. Here is 1 link This is Jack Chastain HSE
