I remember when people associated with this site would question the Welch brothers ability to be college wrestlers with their style. May have been a north versus south thing. Anyone have that thread?
Rankings guy. I have to agree with you on the way all three were ranked and I am really impressed that you were able to rank and pick the 2 to win state. If you would have picked Goldman to win, I would have said you rigged the state tournament. Amazing job this year and the main reason I come on this site. Thanks for all the work that you do and look forward to next year. Thanks again.
The rankings guy would have done really well if he would have given the Evansville semi-state more respect.
He missed from the semi-state
130-M0lloy-3
135-Raley-3
189-Goldman-4
Lannert-15
Whetstine-16
Jake Lannert finished 4th at state. He lost 11-10 in the semi's or would have been under the lights. He did not finish in the top 6 last year at Semi-state.
Chamberlain from Evansville Central who did not make it out of the Evansville semi-state pinning Heistand of Yorktown at a tournament earlier this year.
Austin Warren 171 Castle won the SIAC tourney last week and ranked 15th in the State. Gets seeded 4th in the sectional and has number one ranked Drake Stein in the second round. Wrestling and life do not always give you the best breaks.
Welch scored a late takedown in the first. Rode him out the whole 2nd period. Welch escaped early in the 3rd that made 3-0. Welch got another takedown. Wedding escaped and Welch took him back down with 20-30 seconds to go and rode him out for the win. There were matches last year that were somewhat similar and the next match was won by the other wrestler. Two good wrestlers that have split their matches the last few years. Don't read too much into one match.
Chad Welch won all of his matches easily and never struggled with anyone. Doug Welch won at 152 over a very good Boonville Anthony Seiler 12-7. He was leading the whole match, but did get caught on his back shortly. Luke Welch never wrestled Brock Ervin because Brock was at 112 and Luke wrestled 119.
Castle and Union County Kentucky were winning easily and on course for the championship. Union County won all but 3-4 matches against Indian Creek and most by fall. Ervin and Welch at 152 should be a finals match. Little Ervin could bump up at 119 in the finals.
Welch 119
Brown 130
Welch 152
Welch 160
Good chance of a matchup this weekend at Castle of a Caleb Ervin (2 time Kentucky State Champ) and Doud Welch (Indiana runner up). Does anyone know what weight Ervin is wrestling for sure?
If they class wrestling, we can then start threads like they do in football. They argue about the unfair advantage of Catholic schools and not the size of schools. Have you ever looked at what the percentage of Catholic schools that win the 1A thru 4A state football championships?
