  1. Jason was the best at that moment in time. I'm sure on another day Cashe would come out with the upper hand. In thing is for sure Jason has a bright high school career in front of him and Cashe has the same in college.
  2. I thought the programs were OK this year. Maybe a little small to write in, but other than that not to bad.
  3. wasnt saying they didnt do a great job i commend them on a job well done but if you dont show respect now you will think you never half to, and life after wrestling is whats important My response was for this comment. Just forgot to quote it.
  4. He is I, I am him, Slim with the tilted brim whats my ******* name? I'm sure Slim Shady will be the next up. Couldn't resist with all the other quotes on here. Besides I think mines clear to begin with.
  5. I think I noticed a few people in person and on the board bringing up the great job CP did as individuals.
  6. I'm sure it will help your cool points if anything else.
  7. For a select few wrestlers there are a ton of behind the scenes things that these kids do in their life to help others. Many of these selfless acts the average fan nevers sees or hears about. Heck in some case the coaches and principals do not even hear about them which makes it hard when submitting the form. I'm sure those who vote on the award have a tough decision and would have an even harder one if they knew everything some of these fine young men like March have done in their lifes.
  8. State finals were not on flow last year. He was only permitted to tape wrestlers in the hallway following their matches not the matches themselves. I don't believe Martin made it this year, possibly because of the lack of media access made it not worth the trip.
  9. March its posted a few pages back by now.
  10. yes, he is featured in oe of the toe to joes too, you can read about it there He comes from a long line of brothers that were sucessful wrestlers. His oldest brother (maybe second oldest not sure) was actually his coach in middle school at Jackson Creek in Bloomington. I'm wanting to say that brother or another one also coaches JT at Bloomington South at one point, as well. I'm getting old enough that its hard to remember these things
  11. My thoughts overall and not directed towards CP who believe is a very respectful team in general. I think its good to get at least one good hand shake in to the wrestlers and opposing coach at some point during the day. It's good to show respect to the wrestlers and the coach who trained them. Anything after the one time for both is bonus in my opinion. Most time in a dual meet this is done after the match when the wrestlers and coaches both line up to shake hands. But a tournament is not a dual and in most cases you do not shake hands with the one wrestler and coach several times in the course of the event. You don't hae the recieving line at the end to shake hands or that would be the best oppertunity like a dual. So shakeing the coaches hand would only happen before or after the match starts in those instances. As long is tempers are not high the easiest time would be right after the match. If emotions are still high then make an attempt to shake the coaches hand later if at all possible. If the coach still isn't interested in shaking your hand then that their deal, but at least you can say you tried. You can't really blaim the kids for these actions though, since if its a team think it was probably done via the coaches instructions. I'd say it something the coaches had a reasoning for doing, though my personal feeling are that the hand shakeing in a dual meet can be addressed differently than a tournament.
  12. Hmmm this is interesting, Y2 puts a comment in here about class wrestling where none existed, but locks a topic about an arguement against class wrestling. Is that how that works? Baker looked impressive in his state matches. He come from a good wrestling family and a great wrestling tradition at Bellmont.
  13. I've been watching this young man since early in his career and he has done nothing but impress me with this work ethic and dedication. It seems not to long ago that Daniel was a a fresh face 6th grader I was warning my 8th grade wrestlers about before a dual meet. I'm glad to see him finally accomplish his goal of being a state champion. I am also happy to see hear that he has accomplished another goal in attending the US Military Academy at West Point. Great career Daniel and good luck in the future. You have done your family and the state of Indiana proud with your accomplishments.
  14. I always thought it would be a great idea if someone could post on the large telepromter screen who is wrestling on each mat during the day. That way you can easily find what may you want to watch. Either that or at least a running list of who won at each weight class to make bracket updates easier. I know it would take an extra man and some help from conseco to set it up but I think it would be a great addition for the fans. Allyourbase, I'll be in the lower level suites right behind the Mishiwaka crowds and close to MD if you want to stop by at some point. Not sure what suite number until I get to the tickets though.
  15. From years passed a few people are on here late trying to post some type of updates, but I'm not sure how long it will take to piece together everything they post. I just find someone in my area that has it all filled out and borrow their bracket to fix my holes before the next round begins.
  16. If I recall they have an updated bracket available you can get saturday morning. It's been awhile since I've needed it so I'm not for sure if the IHSWCA or someone does this anymore.
  17. BAN I think he means "When will the door open so I can stop standing out in the cold waiting to get in?" Doors open one hour before the event. Friday starts at 6 so I would guess doors open at 5.
  18. I know its a basketball related story, but it's implication will effect all sports. Not seeing this go all the way through but it will at least make some waves. IHSAA to be eliminated? Bill in place due to Jasmine Watson case wndu.com Posted: 7:26 PM Feb 19, 2009 Last Updated: 7:26 PM Feb 19, 2009 Reporter: Angelo Di Carlo Email Address: angelo.dicarlo@wndu.com Hold the presses. There's another new development in the Jasmine Watson-IHSAA case and this one could have a long lasting effect on the future of high school sports in Indiana. Displeased in the manner in which the IHSAA has handled the case of Jasmine Watson--the girls basketball player who transferred from Elkhart Memorial to South Bend Washington--- an Indiana house panel has passed a plan that would eliminate the IHSAA all together. The Bill sponsored by South Bend Representative David Niezgodski (D) would put control of high school sports under the Department of Education. "The IHSAA is the living embodiment of the faceless, nameless bureaucracy that is able to thrive because it is not accountable to anyone," Niezgodski said in a statement released by his office. "With House Bill 1733, we will provide the accountability that has been lacking.? Watson's case was the final straw, according to Niezgodski. When Watson first transferred to Washington, Memorial protested and claimed it was for athletic reasons. The IHSAA agreed and Watson was ruled in eligible. The senior missed the first half of the girls basketball season. In December, Watson's case went to a St. Joseph County Circuit Court where a judge ruled that the transfer was not for athletic reasons, but for economic hardship, as the Watsons had claimed. The Court ruled Watson eligible and she immediately began playing for Washington. Since that time, the IHSAA has not given in and continues to pursue an appeal, one that would not likely come until after the state championship. That means, if Washington were to win the state title and the IHSAA would win its appeal, the Panthers could be forced to forfeit their state championship because they had an illegible player. House Bill 1733 was approved this week in the House Education Committee to combat the problem. Under the bill, the division of interscholastic athletics would be governed by a nine-member board of directors appointed by the state Superintendent of Public Instruction. ?This board would regulate, supervise and administer all interscholastic athletic programs, and establish standards for eligibility, competition and sportsmanship while providing protection against the exploitation of schools or students,? Niezgodski said. ?In short, it would do everything the IHSAA does now, except with a level of oversight and accountability that is missing today.? If the bill, which now advances to the full House, becomes law, state control of high school athletics would take place on July 1. Meanwhile, Watson is still playing basketball, and the announcement comes just two days before she and Washington will face her former team Memorial in the regional playoffs. This won't be Jasmine's first meeting with her old school, but she says that doesn't make it any easier. "I don't think it matters when we play--if we played them three times during the year," Watson told Newscenter 16 on Wednesday. "It's always going to be different for me because every time I step on that floor, I'm a Panther now instead of a Charger." In going through all of this---going to court, being forced to sit out of games---Watson has become a stronger person. "It didn't break me," Watson said. "That was the main thing I was focused on. It didn't break my spirits." "No one what, no one can take that away from me." That determination and ability to fight with such grace is something those around her admire. "Everything she had to go through this year and the end of last year, I don't think a lot of teenagers or young adults would have been able to handle it like she did," teammate Skylar Diggins says. Washington coach Maurice Scott agrees, "She has a big heart, she cares about people, she cares about her teammates." "She's very special here." And that's why Jasmine has quickly become a vocal leader for the Panthers---in more ways than one. "I've been able to sing for a long time," Watson says laughing. Jasmine sang the National Anthem before Washington's final regular season game last month. Her singing inspired Diggins and Scott, who both broke down crying because the emotion of the night. "She's a wonderful singer," Scott says. "We might have to get her to tryout for American Idol next year." Diggins meanwhile is known for being the best at just about everything. This is one area she quickly concedes to Jasmine. "She has me on that," Skylar says with a smile. "We do a little pre-game, locker room duets sometimes, but nothing anyone would hear out here." For Panthers fans, the duet between Skylar and Jasmine they want to see most is the combination that puts up a lot of points on Memorial Saturday at 12:30 ET at Valpo High School in the regional semifinals.
  19. Those stats wouldn't come out as clear. Some conferences are almost completely filled with teams also in the same sectional and/or regional. Other conferences are filled with teams that are all part of several sectionals and regionals. Because of that some confence opponents would be able to eliminate each other in sectionals and regionals. Others may never even face someone form their concerence until semi-state or possibly even state.
  20. Atwood should have 21 my bad. Never trust my math completely. I'll fix it should be Grimes Atwood Wedding Mappes One thing is for sure. Baring any major upsets in the first round, the Atwood and Duckworth quarter final match will be a great one.
  21. Math was right (at least I think). I said it was not an exact science though. If I missed something else on that one or another let me know I'll try again. Grimes Total 16 Wedding Total 19 Duckworth Total 23 Atwood Total 25 Mappe Total 31 How the bracket pans out then was probably where you thought it was wrong Grimes 1st Duckworth 2nd (Wedding same side as Grimes so can't be second) Wedding 3rd Mappe 4th (Atwood in same quarter final round as Duckworth so he would be out of top 4)
  22. Basically. I added the finishing positions up. If my additions skills held true the lower the number the higher the consensus placement for that wrestler. If they were not picked top 8 by one or more of the guys they got a 9 from that person by default. After #1 was found then it was all on how the brackets played out for #2-#4. Common example of how the brackets manipulated the process.Wrestlers A is the over all #1. Wrestlers B may had the second highest place total but since he faces A in the semis he ends with only being able to make it to the over all #3 spot. That themn would move wrestlers C with the third highest total to the #2 spot because he was on the opposite end of the bracket from Wrestler A. Yes, I was bored this afternoon during my prep and lunch. It's not a scientific study in who is going to win just trying to see which guys the "Inner Circle" picked more. I'm sure its not going to pan out perfectly no matter how we slice it.
  23. This is based off of the accumulative picks from the 7 gentlemen (Y2, RC, Karl, AJ, Dingo, Vito, & Sly) and who they believe will place in state. I added up each of their picks and placed the Top 4 based on the end results. It does takes into account the filtering of the brackets into the final results. This means some very highly talented guys are not listed as high because they were beat out by a higher guy before the finals. I stopped at 4th place since after that there are too many ties for placement. 103 1.Phillips 2.Ayersman 3.McKinley 4.Stevens 112 1.Hawkins 2.Kieffer 3.Nelson 4.Gonzalas 119 1.Wright 2.Eppert 3.Johns 4.Kenney 125 1.Quiroga 2.Napules 3.Tsirtsis 4.Grey 130 1.Harper 2.Porras 3.Spencer 4.Norton 135 1.Roach 2.March 3.Dillion 4.Richey 140 1.Sandefer 2.Sims 3.Stahl 4.McGinley 145 1.Young 2.Dulaney 3.Bennett 4.Pichards 152 1.McMurrey 2.Stein 3.Mosier 4.Estrada 160 1.Runyan 2.Todd 3.Myers 4.Powell 171 1.Grimes 2.Atwood 3.Wedding 4.Mappes 189 1.Shrewsbury 2.Garber 3.Dalton 4.Stevenson 215 1.Baker 2.Berry 3.Cleveland 4.Lentz HWT (285) 1.Chalfant 2.White 3.Fitzgerald 4.Everett
  24. Most freshman also tend to be lighter in weight in general. Making the odds of them participating in those weight classes more likely than the heavy ones. Most juniors and seniors seem to grow enough to make it hard to keep down in the light weight especially with the new weight managment plans. That's just the growth, maturity, and strenght training you get as you advance in high school wrestling at work. It should be said that some of those freshman were talented enough to win at other upperweights as well if they were that size instead.
  25. You've noticed that too! I always like hearing about it on the board afterward though.
