  1. Good question. First of all, Busco has absolutely a 0% chance of finishing ahead of South Adams, so we definitely do want to let things play out. At this point they're at a similar score because 1) they have a huge % of their team coming back, 2) most of those returnees placed in a tough sectional (which means A LOT when we're forecasting 1A dual meet strength), and 3) because those high-placing kids you mention are not differentiated from 4th placers. Only final advancement level is considered in the points. This week will change everything because other teams will keep getting points while Busco is about done. Keep in mind it's 1A also. There are no superpower teams. The list of teams with more than 1 semi-state underclassmen is very short. The list of teams with almost their entire roster coming back is literally almost none--especially a team that placed so many against higher-class teams in their sectional. 1A is just a different animal.
  2. We need to go back to 12-man brackets with wrestlebacks from the quarters. Less time would be needed and the 2-time regional losers would not get an undeserved seat at the table. Cash, cash, cash. That's the name of the game.
  3. Below are the OFFICIAL standings after regionals for all teams. There were a number of errors from the sectional scores that were adjusted for this round. Some notes: 1. The 3A standings are still very irrelevant unless you're below about 140 points. Virtually everyone else has a chance to get into contention. You'll need about 280 points to get an automatic berth and about 250 to be in contention for the voting on the last 2 positions. Some surprise teams from relatively weak sectionals/regionals will have a very difficult time keeping up with the pace of the huge points that will go on the board starting this week from the powerhouses. 2. The 2A standings will be VERY interesting this week because a few teams from relatively weak sectionals (jasper, yorktown, peru, for example) have large number of underclassmen at semi-state. If any of them win their first match, the multiplier comes off of that wrestler's score and they get an enormous leap in points. Meanwhile, the top few teams will be virtually stationary no matter what happens this weekend because of bonuses already built into their scores. 3. Remember again: These scores tell us who will be a good duals team NEXT YEAR. It doesn't matter if you beat a team in a dual meet this year if you have 7 or 8 seniors. You have to prove you're going to be good next year through mostly the performance of your underclassmen. 4. DON'T FORGET TO SEND AN INJURY REPORT TO COACH DANIEL STRUCK IF A CURRENT SOPHOMORE OR JUNIOR WHO MADE SEMI-STATE OR BETTER LAST YEAR COULD NOT WRESTLE SECTIONAL THIS YEAR DUE TO INJURY. SEE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE STICKIES AT THE TOP OF THIS DISCUSSION BOARD. ADJUSTED DUE DATE IS NOW FEBRUARY 16. 4. Wednesday morning at the latest if all goes as planned. The regional updates are easy enough to plug in and calculate, but hunting down all the correct data to verify official results of all the sectional non-placers has been a big project that carried into the weekend. We're almost done finally and we'll be able to post our new leaderboard on Wednesday as "Official".
  5. It's definitely not a matter of time for the IHSAA. When there were 12 per class at semi-state, having wrestle-backs for only the final 8 would have added a whopping one hour to the tournaments (1st rd wrestlebacks simultaneous with semi's; 2nd rd on 4 mats would have taken 1 hour). Now, with 16 kids per class, we added 2 hours compared to before. It's all about money (more parents' butts in the seats). They were willing to suddenly give the 4th place regional guys a "second chance" when they'd argued for years that there shouldn't be second chances. We didn't even ask for it. They just announced it and did it. It would have been WAY better for the integrity of competition if they'd given us simple wrestle-backs.
  6. I've researched this stuff for 20 years. It evolves over time. Until last year, Merrillville far and away dominated the state finals on every level for 7 or 8 years (total placers, total finalists, total champs, total "team points", everything). Before that, Evansville was the strongest for about half the years from '92 to '02. Fort Wayne and New Castle were always very near them and shared some turns at #1, while Merrillville was usually the weakest of the 4. There's no one semi-state that can lay claim to always being the best. There's great wrestling at all 4, and it really does go in cycles.
  7. Who would win these wrestling matches? The all-athlete match: Victor Cruz (Giants WR) vs. BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Pats RB) The lanky beast match: Justin Tuck (Giants DE) vs. Rob Gronkowski (Pats TE) The QB throw-down: Eli Manning vs. Tom Brady The Senior division: Tom Coughlin vs. Bill Belichik I'd guess Green-Ellis, Tuck, and Manning would win close ones, with Belichik pulling out the dual for the Pats with a late pin. That dude is mean and cranky.
  8. Check the IHSAA site late night on February 18. Rankings will be updated in detail.
  9. It's a projection of duals strength next year. It's using each individual's success or lack of success to show who will be the best duals teams next year. And as the notes say--it's very, very irrelevant after the sectional round only.
  10. Yes, sorry, when we wrote that, the plan was to distribute something at sectionals. Now, we'll distribute something at regionals in addition to posting instructions here online. And the due date will be in a couple weeks. Again, sorry for the confusion.
  11. Let things shake out. You have way more people still wrestling than most teams, so you'll get huge points this week and next that others won't. For a team with many advancers in 1A or 2A from a weak sectional, the scores will look strange at first, but even out. With Bellmont too, they're going to get enormous points in the next few weeks that others don't have a chance at. They'll be in the mix for sure if they get their normal number of semi-state and state qualifiers.
  12. Several officials or ex-officials have made comments on this thread--including me. There's not much to say. The situation is clearly very sad, but once he missed his chances to make weight; the officials hands are tied. I'm sure that if the clowning around took place but Spencer really stepped right on and made it after it was re-calibrated later in the weigh-in, any official would be honest about what happened. But it's still out of the officials' hands at this point. Let's see if there's a solution to be had.
  13. Below are the standings after sectionals for qualification for the 2012-13 IHSWCA Duals State Championship event. A few notes: 1. Scoring systems are different from class to class, so don?t freak out that a small school has many more points than a big school. 2. The scores are much, much more dependent on your underclassmen?s success than on your seniors? success. So if you?ve got 7 seniors in your lineup, you may seem lower than you expected. 3. A multiplier is used for 2A/1A to even out the difficulty of sectionals/regionals for sectional/regional points. So you may have more points than another team despite advancing a couple less kids than them to regional. 4. The points for 3A are almost irrelevant at this point in the tournament because all the big points are yet to come. 2A and 1A points right now have some more relevance because they have typically advanced less kids and the later-round points have less effect proportionally. But they will still change very significantly. 5. Remember the top team from each semi-state in each class, plus the next best 2 scores from throughout the state, qualify automatically on points alone. 6. THESE POINTS SHOULD ALL BE CONSIDERED UNOFFICIAL. ABOUT HALF OF THE SCORES HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIRMED AS OFFICIAL. 7. As we said before, this point system would have chosen all the correct top teams for this year's event, had there been one. 3A Standings: Lake C. 171.11 Bloomington S. 166.9 Cathedral 166 Floyd C. 163.57 Noblesville 162 Valpo 159.14 Perry Meridian 159 Portage 158.2 Avon 158.03 Munster 154.95 Franklin 153.71 Connersville 152 Elkhart Memorial 150 Lawrence C. 149 East Noble 148 Harrison WL 147.5 Huntington N. 147 HSE 147 Merrillville 146.1 Crown Point 145.8 Lowell 143.3 Jeffersonville 143.04 Center Grove 140.24 Ben Davis 139 Greenfield 138 E. 16. Yes. I'll post an update later today if possible. Because we set the deadline midnight friday, and then the coaches were obviously taking care of their teams and out of their offices all weekend, we're getting our ducks in a row. Thanks for your patience. Also, we'll post a week one class-by-class leaderboard after all the data is organized. Hopefully by Wednesday evening. I'll have the 8 area files by Wednesday morning.
  17. It's been about 10 years since you could "run around." Now you have to weigh in immediately at the announced weight. If you miss, you miss. You can check on other scales being used for the event, but that's it. You're done immediately. I hope there's enough evidence to support Spencer's claims and a provision can be made for him to wrestle at regional. I have no idea how it would work, though, since he'd be put in a pig-tail with the 4th place kid logically. If he'd win, he'd wrestle the other sectional's champ--meaning a very tough kid could get put out in an unfair situation. This is a no-win situation.
  18. A little weaker sectional than some, but this speaks to the depth of LC's program to have 14 quality kids. Great accomplishment.
  19. With two wrestlers so closely matched, the loser sometimes almost gains more of a psychological advantage for the rematch than the winner does because the pressure is off. Will they both put it all on the line for a match that will have little meaning and potentially gives an upper hand to the loser later? It will be interesting to see. Both these guys are atypical, attack-minded brawlers and the standard psyche may not even matter.
  20. Here are the pairings for the final unclassed duals state finals: PORTAGE Portage vs. Merrillville Crown Point vs. Lake Central Can Merrillville get past Portage and get a shot to prove the DAC victory over CP wasn't a fluke? JIMTOWN Penn vs. Elkhart Memorial East Noble vs. Culver Academies First round thriller with Penn/Memorial should be for the title, but a very tough East Noble probably awaits the winner. ADAMS CENTRAL Carroll vs. FW Snider Yorktown vs. Bellmont Bellmont the favorite, but could Yorktown exact some revenge from last year? Or could a talented Carroll/Snider winner score an upset? LOGANSPORT Huntington North vs. Kokomo WL Harrison vs. Logansport Tossup city here. Is Kokomo healthy enough to be the team to beat? If not, Harrison may be the top dog. ZIONSVILLE Cathedral vs. Noblesville Hamilton SE vs. Southmont Can HSE close the gap from the disappointingly big loss to Cathedral earlier in the year? MARTINSVILLE Perry Meridian vs. Danville Franklin vs. Bloomington South Can Franklin or South give PM some resistance? CONNERSVILLE Connersville vs. Jennings County Warren Central vs. New Castle Warren sectional upset makes this championship match vs. the C-ville/JC winner very, very interesting. SOUTHRIDGE Heritage Hills vs. Jasper Evansville Mater Dei vs. Jeffersonville Tough to see one of these teams pushing EMD...back to state yet again.
  21. Thanks for all the updates...team scores??

  23. By now, you've most likely seen the posted announcement about the selection procedures for the 2012-13 IHSWCA Classed Duals State Finals event. A few schools may be interested in moving up in class to be challenged by more difficult competition. Any school that wants to move up in class is free to move up to any class above them. For this season, though, the time is very, very short because we will begin calculating points on Saturday. Here is the selection procedures document. The school classifications are in alphabetical order in the Appendix at the end of the document: http://indianamat.com/stuff/IHSWCA_Duals_State_Finals_Selection_Procedures.pdf If your school wants to move up in class, you MUST DECLARE your intention BEFORE SATURDAY. The official DEADLINE is MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT. Head Coaches from 1A or 2A schools, please email IHSWCA Vice-President Danny Struck at dstruck@gcs.k12.in.us and include the following information: Your school Your name Which class you want to be in (moving up, not down, of course) If you decide to move up, you are INELIGIBLE to qualify for your originally assigned class. You will be calculated for your chosen class only for the NEXT TWO SEASONS until classifications are re-calculated. IF YOU THINK YOUR SCHOOL IS ONE THAT MAY WANT TO MOVE UP, TAKE ACTION! CALL SOMEONE OR TELL SOMEONE THAT THIS IS POSTED SO THEY CAN READ IT AND MAKE A DECISION!
