  1. Ah, I missed that. I was in the arena and they didn't give an explanation. Jesse acted super annoyed as if he'd just found out on the mat, so I assumed it was an in-the-moment decision.
  2. This match didn't happen. Michigan came out rolling, up 9-0 through two matches that should have been close, forfeited to Jesse to keep the momentum--and dropped two huge upsets late (including Davison) to lose 20-19. Jesse was super ticked at the time, but he got the last laugh.
  3. None from this list come from the Big 3 nationally recognized teams and only two from this list come from a statewide duals Top 10 ranked team. The schedules teams are facing now are so brutal.
  4. This is 100% true. IHSWCA, please keep reiterating to Faulkens that the sectional seeding criteria are perfect in every way. And, @Y2CJ41, please encrypt this thread so that only those with current or past ability to execute a power half can view it.
  5. I tend to think Mendez will win by bonus too, since that's what he does to everyone this year. Despite me referencing it, I'm not sure the Bartlett match result is a great comparison since Bartlett has had some closer matches. However, Lemley is bigger now and WAY better. He went UTB in the Illinois semi-finals last year with the kid who is currently #4 on the depth chart at 125 at NC State. Then Lemley won his state title last year 3-2 in a very tight final over a current Illinois backup who's lost 3 times to D2 guys this year. Meanwhile, Sergio is ranked #19 and almost took out #2 as a true freshman. He's leveled WAY up.
  6. Sidenote: An MC vs CP special tonight where I am here in Columbus, OH: #19 true freshman Sergio Lemley (UM) vs. #3 true sophomore Jesse Mendez (OSU) Lemley just gave #2 Bartlett of PSU a killer 7-5 match last weekend. Should be a fun one tonight.
  7. No one below #6 is seeded, so if you put a replacement there you've essentially created a bracket with only 5 seeded kids and no need to move a bunch of kids around other than the pre-determined seeds. I like this idea. Still minimal moving, but reduces the nonsense a bit.
  8. I think Masoumi is in there too if you're not considering only starters--but strength against the rest of the world. He's almost a certain medal winner and maybe gold medal favorite at an Olympic weight if he's in the lineup. I'd consider him as high as #3 or #4 if we look at current ability and not past accomplishments.
  9. Mason Parris - 2023 - NCAA title at 285 - Hodge Trophy winner (America's best college wrestler) - World bronze medal at 125kg
  10. Wow, great performance by Azarpira. After falling before to Snyder 3-0, losing to a far inferior Zahid Valencia, and then almost losing today to a far inferior Trumble, I didn't really think he'd have a shot. Masoumi and Azarpira have great futures (assuming Masoumi will sadly have to wear a different singlet).
  11. Almost every major city and country on earth has at least one small town named after it in the U.S. At least 2 states have a Palestine and there are at least 8 Bethlehems that I could find. I'm in a small town visiting my wife's family and just nearby are small towns called Athens, Rome, South Rome, Paris, Washington, Mahomet...and, wait for it... Teheran
  12. Yeah, it's hard to know how much of his progression is related to weight class "fit", technique growth, or physical maturity. What I do know is that he has the skills and swagger of NCAA champs. Only issue is that 141 has at least 3 guys of that type.
  13. 141 will be nuts in the big 10. Mendez will move up to #3, so it will be #1 Woods, #2 Bartlett, and #3 Mendez. Silas Allred also takes 5th here, but he'll be disappointed to lose a couple one-sided matches after appearing to be on a title-contending level late last year. Meanwhile, Big 10 rival Jaxon Smith of Maryland will move into the top 3 or 4 in the rankings after looking fantastic. Silas didn't look amazing in Las Vegas last year either, so here's hoping he'll make another push forward and rebuild confidence during the Big 10 season.
  14. Lots of guys with Indiana roots on the mats in Las Vegas today and tomorrow. An interesting one upcoming will have 6-seed Silas Allred vs 11-seed Evan Bates in the round of 16.
  15. Yeah, looks like Logan has picked up a couple of solid wins already. He sits at 7-3 and ranked #66 among all 133s on D1 rosters in the country according to WrestleStat. Cayden Rooks is 6-4 and is at his lowest WrestleStat ranking for a few years--currently at #69 among all 133s.
  16. Yes, power poll is strictly who is projected based on rankings to score the most team points at individual state finals. IndianaMat has other team rankings for duals.
  17. Yes, he's very good. DT beat him 6-0 and 5-4 in their World Team Trials matches.
  18. I agree. But Hendrickson's matches against good people tend to be wild and high-scoring. He can be scored on, but he's so dangerous and puts almost everyone to their back.
  19. Hendrickson, who I mentioned recently lost 12-11 to Parris, pinned the Senior Worlds true 5th Kurbanov this morning after being up 17-9. I sure wish we could have seen him and Masoumi. He's an elite athlete, weighing the full 125kg with no fat. It would have been a unique test for Masoumi.
  20. It was officially announced tonight on the UWW site. I don't understand how this happens? They put it in Albania to be sure Russian and Belarusian neutral athletes can participate, but then overlook the fact that Iran could be left out? What a tragedy. That's awful. Sorry, guys. I feel for you.
  21. Carver and Rosenberger podium in MS too. And Case Bell takes the 112lb title as the 6 seed!
  22. Murphy loses a heartbreaker, 1-1, in the 100lb girls' final. Kaplan also runner-up at 124 as Indiana's other podium finisher.
  23. Unseeded Schaefer and Johnson end up falling in the blood round. #10 Gunner Henry takes out the Ohio kid that clobbered him 15-1 early in the tournament. Gunner earns our lone podium spot, finishing 8th.
  24. Everyone out of the winners' bracket. Cressel takes out Duke Myers, 13-3, to stay alive into the 1st Consi of 8 at 165. He's joined by Weaver and Henry at 190 and Johnson at 215 to make it 5 hoosiers alive (including Schaefer at 126 from earlier) needing 2 wins for a podium spot. Indiana in 9th as a team. Such an unforgiving tournament.
