  1. Along the lines of what is being said here, the IHSWCA isn't going to become a viable, strong entity, with backbone, in 3 months. It will take time, consistency, and staying the course for the IHSAA to view the IHSWCA as a legitimate organization. Therefore we need to make improvements such as posting the minutes from the IHSWCA meetings on this public forum (as Fabio Jr. asked for), and by being firm and consistent in our attempts to improve our sport. Like what has been stated before, let's be firm and consistent in what we are working for. If we want a classed Team State, or wrestle-backs at Semi-State, let's shove it down their throats year after year, improving our proposal year in and year out until we get it. If the IHSAA tells us no way, let's keep pushing. I know that we tell our wrestlers to keep pushing even when the outlook appears bleak. We should only expect the same from ourselves. Communication from the IHSWCA to the coach's needs to improve for the organization to improve.
  2. The IHSAA already shot that idea down. They said once the last match in the Individual State Tournament is wrestled, the season is officially over.
  3. I'm just assuming.........and we all know what that does, that the "IHSWCA Holiday Classic" will not interfere with the Al Smith or Connersville Tournaments? There are 64 pretty good teams at those events during this time, and I doubt anyone would want to drop out of those tournaments, as it is fairly difficult to get in.

  5. August 23rd appeal (I guess I just assumed Marcus is Eli, I could be completely wrong here) A hearing was conducted to consider the appeal of Marcus Walker, a student attending Yorktown High School. Marcus had been declared ineligible on the basis of Rule 19-4 and 17-7.4. A hearing was requested in order to appeal the ruling and obtain full eligibility. Following the hearing the legal counsel for the student?s family and for the IHSAA submitted findings of fact. Having analyzed all of the available data, the IHSAA Review Committee voted to uphold the decision of the Commissioner.
  6. I thought that I saw Mr. Walker's transfer request was denied.
  7. I just really like the idea of inviting everyone, and giving them the CHOICE to come to the tourney to start with. The Invitation only format just left a bad taste in my mouth. Also I think, with team's like Mishawaka already stating that they would participate in a tournament run in this format, you are definitely on the right track!
  8. I really think it looks great. I like the one and done format as I think it adds more excitement, but I also agree with the idea that we have to promise more matches, in order to get teams to buy into participating. I like it a lot! (Forrest Gump)
  9. I would be fine with inviting only those with 8 or more weight classes filled
  10. I didn't state that I only wanted the best teams in the state. If we are having a tourney where some of the best teams in the state are left out, then I'm not interested. If we are voting teams in, how could you distinguish by voting this past year that Lawrence North was better than Hamilton Southeastern without wrestling it? that Bellmont was better than Yorktown? That's what is happening if you vote on the best team from each Regional. Then if you take a team that has a bunch of young kids that are really making strides or just making it into high school, that really improve a team, that would not be taken into account if you base your selection on Semi State qualifiers. What if a team lost a couple of kids to injury or skin disease leading up into the Semi State, and that hindered their chances of being selected. I just do not see how we can get coaches and programs to support a tournament that is not all in.
  11. I prefer this method. I know it looks like a gigantic undertaking, but we have got to get as many teams/schools excited about this to work. The more schools that are involved, the more excitement that will be generated. In all of the methods of selecting teams based on their previous year's results, the team that I coach was actually included, and I have no interest in the method at all. I do not have any interest in a Team State tourney that doesn't include all of the best teams.
  12. I just think the returning points system is a terrible idea. How can you not have Mishawaka or Penn in your 3A class? We already will have a system forced upon us that rewards teams for having a few outstanding individuals, why would we basically do the same thing with the invite system?
  13. Ohio's tournament is working so well, that they are switching to the type of tournament that we are giving up.
  14. I completely understand that we are all wanting to do what's best for our sport, and some of these questions,we are going to need to work through. I'm not sure how to deal with travel being an issue. I think that 1-2 hours travel time would be feasible, although I know not ideal. There would be much more excitement out of an all in tournament, so if there are time constraints in a one week deal, but it's successful, maybe we can look towards a week and a half or two week proposal after the first year. I believe that if there is success in year one, ADs and Principals will be a lot more likely to support our cause for an extension.
  15. 1. I'm pretty sure that the IHSWCA said that the IHSAA will allow extra weigh ins for the tournament. Therefore, I wouldn't think that we would need to drop anything other than what we have the week that this goes on. 2. The proposal that I looked at from Y2 included 3 matches on a Tuesday, and 2 matches on a Thursday. I have observed several teams wrestling 3 matches on a week night, and in the current format we wrestle 2 matches on a Wednesday. I don't see the number of matches on a weekday as that big of a deal, as long as we keep the travel time down. The finals on a Saturday shouldn't be a problem.
  16. I just do not like the idea of basing your Team State meet on last year's performance. There are factors like, solid JV guys behind a varsity stud, major improvements from underclassmen, and incoming freshmen, that could change the entire outlook of a team. Let's include everyone, class it, and do it the first week of January.
  17. I agree that it did technically include everyone, I just felt like it would have been a better team series if it would have started in a dual format, rather than have the opening of the Team tournament decided by an individual tournament. I actually, really enjoyed and supported the team tournament. My main point here though, is that I think we need to include all teams that want to participate, in our IHSWCA team series, in order to gain the most approval for it.
  18. I understand that we need to start somewhere. I believe that the main reason the current IHSAA Team State format did not receive as much support as it should have, is that it didn't include everyone! Why would we start over and do the exact same thing?
  19. If you are trying to put together a tournament that will determine a Team State Champion, and you are trying to get support from all of the schools, in order to one day have the IHSAA adopt the tournament, you have to include everyone. If you have an invite only based on last years results, with 100 or less teams involved, the majority of the wrestling community is not going to support it. Why? Because they aren't invited! Why would a team/program want to support something that they never get to participate in?
  20. If your travel time is kept in the 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour range, wrestling 2-3 matches isn't that bad. Teams wrestle quads throughout the week, all year.
  21. It may be just me, but doesn't inviting teams, based on the previous year's qualifiers, seem to penalize a school for having a senior laden team?
  22. I really think that hosting an all-in Team State Championship, in a week, is a nightmare to schedule, but..................how awesome would it be?!? I think the kids and the fans would benefit largely from this...........what if we did it as a HUGE bracketed one and done tournament? (You could class if over course) One level would be Tuesday, if you win the region, you move on to the next on Thursday, and then the Finals on Saturday.............just a random idea. It's an idea similar to the NCAA basketball tournament.
  23. Has anyone heard which way the IHSAA is leaning? I heard from a very reliable source, that once again the IHSAA/Bobby Cox has said they will not even consider classing wrestling unless, the rest of the Individual Sports become classed. It looks like the only thing the IHSAA is looking at, is either eliminating Team State or keeping it.
