  1. I defintiely agree with the arguement that an individua based team state championship is not an accurate portrayal of who is the team in the state. I think of the Hobart team that placed 3rd in the then "Coaches Trophy" award. There was 1 champ, 2 runnerups and a fifth place. In the team format, however, they were embarrassed by Merrillville in the regional round. Is that much of a variance acceptable to the IHSAA? Is it fair to the kids that are competing?
  2. I agree as a whole that those three teams would dominate the competition but the other schools already presently attending have enough stud wrestlers to have some really exciting individual match-ups that you may otherwise not see. Just a couple weights to look at from this year. 106 2. Eric Peek Griffith 11 3. Mike Garza Merrillville 11 SQ@106 5. Riley Akers Crown Point 10 8. Isaac Cortez Hanover Central 10 120 1. Drew Hughes Lowell 9 2. Adam Garcia Merrillville 12 4th@120 SQ@119 6. Matt Lechowicz Lake Central 12 7. Ruben Rodriguez Hammond Morton 11 8. Brett Ervin Crown Point 12 160 1. Kenny Hughes Lowell 11 SQ 2. Damian Gomez Bishop Noll 12 SQ 3. Mark Maldonado Highland 12 4. Matt Hollins Merrillville 11 5. Dax Jones Crown Point 10
  3. I could not agree more. I would love to see Lowell, CP and Merrillville at this tourney. That would set up a lot of great match-ups between DAC and NCC kids that you dont see a lot of before the state tournament series.
  4. Sports Fan, I know that match ended 4-2 and I remember it being a late takedown that decided it. It seemed pretty close to me. I would imagine with these coaching staffs in place that both wrestlers will have made large gains since then and will provide one of the more exciting and competitve matches at Lake County this weekend.
  5. I will be very interested in seeing the potential rematch at 182 of Tyler Scott and Tony Rodriguez. I'll be pullin for the brickies but I've always had respect for the hardwork Hanover Central and their coaching staff put in to preparing their kids for big matches. Good luck to two tough kids.
  6. How competitive is the Carmel vs Portage matchup expected to be? I would really like to be there for that one simply for the coaching matchup.
  7. The Hughes and Garcia Matchup at 120 looks to be a great finals match. Any predictions?
  8. I'd love to hear how Portage is doing up against some pretty darn good teams down there. Seems like coach Vega is doing a great job with this group of kids. Any updates would be appreciated.
  9. Does anyone have a link to show which teams are in which sectional now? I know a couple schools have moved around and i'd be very interested to take a look if anyone can help a guy out.
  10. I could not agree more with this statement and would like to add that it also helps when all coaches within the program are on the same page and teaching the same technique. That way the kids will be practicing high percentage moves at every level of competition. The importance of having your high school head coach actively involved in the middle school and club programs can not be overstated.
  11. Penn looked really good at the Harvest Classic. Its very clear to me that they are putting in a lot of offseason work. Do they get many move ins? I am not from that area.
  12. I understand that this is the rule and all rules should be followed to achieve the intent of that rule. My question is why was this made a rule. Shouldn't kids be allowed to cut weight or gain weight right up until they step on the scale? When you conduct weigh-ins by weight class I do not see how any one individual would recieve any sort of advantage or disadvantage from being allowed to do so. A majority of the wrestlers will be 5-10 pounds heavier when the matches begin anyway, and as much as 15-20 by the time of the finals matches. As long as you are on weight when you step on the scale, why does it matter whether you have been on weight for 2 days, 12 hours, 5 minutes or 15 seconds?
  13. Great Job Aaron, I am really proud and excited for you.
  14. I was very disappointed with the lack of offense in his final's match. It seemed he was content to not attempt a takedown for the entire length of the match. The stalling calls on Gallegos were absurd. To quote the coaches mat side, "Just pushing is not offense." The style of wrestling Kral demonstrated in his finals match is the very worst type of stalling and is terrible for the sport. I know Kral to be an incredible wrestler and expected much more from him. With all that being said, I know he put in all the work, time and effort. He very much deseves to be a State Champion. Congratulations to a great kid and wrestler.
  15. Any opinions on what would happen in a J. Tsirtsis vs Mcmurray matchup?
  16. I have Kaplanis taking sixth in my bracket. But I agree with you. He looked very impressive, especially against Hall in the finals.
  17. I have seen Todd wrestle a few times and was extremely impressed each time but i did not realize he was this big of a favorite on this Message board. What does everyone think gives him the edge over the competition?
  18. I was trying to take into account the way I thought the bracket would put some match-ups together. I may also be over looking some guys i have not seen wrestle very often.

  21. They all Could Win because they are all incredible wrestlers. However, they question is, "which number one ranked kid do you THINK will not win it all?" I have other wrestlers winning those weights in my bracket, so those are my answers to that question.
