  1. Did I miss that BJJ clinic? How many high school wrestlers are practicing jiu-jitsu? This is wrestling so... Why are we using illegal jiu-jitsu holds?? You'd be quiet surprised on how many high school wrestlers are into a form of martial arts recently. I think if you do a typical headlock it's kind of hard to purposely choke out the person you're wrestling with just because of the position you fall in when trying to pin them. I have been trying to argue this point for a while now, and it's all falling on def ears. I took ju jitsu for a while and I was amazed at how simple some of the moves are. I can do a one armed choke from the head lock position, and you would never be able to tell until it's to late. But I do not teach any of my wrestlers how to do this. If they want to do MMA, go do it. If you want to wrestle....wrestle. Unfortunatly this is a fallout from the MMA boom, love it or hate it, it is a $ out let for wrestlers who could only make $ coaching.
  2. I'm sure the answer is already on here some where, but why did he pick Wisconsin?
  3. I'll be there with my older son and a few other club kids. Tell quinn I have an Oak Hill singlet he can borrow if he wants!
  4. Just guessing, but schoolboys can weigh in Saturday night, so I would guess they are wrestling Sunday, and all others on Saturday.
  5. I just wanted to thank everyone who called me Sunday to congradulate my son for winning his first state title. After losing 2 by 3 points over the last 4 years, it was a great feeling. Just a little back ground, When he was a first year Bantam and placed 5th, I decided he needed to go to a camp to get better and maybe win a state title as a second year bantam. I won't say who or what camp (because I still hold a grudge) but my son quit after 1.5 hours at the camp. The coach that was running it called him a ***sy and told him there were plenty of other sports out there, wrestling isn't for everyone. On the way out Sunday by chance my son was following this coach and had the biggest **** eatin grin you could have! Congrats B I love you son!
  6. Thanks, guess I should read a little more. Trying to talk my son into "cutting 1 pound, but having no luck.
  7. Do you have to make the declared weight that you use on track wrestling, or is your weight class determined at weigh ins?
  8. we went with EI this year, and they are sweet, but we used kosportswesr.com the 2 years before that. They have subs for $40, and they are the best singlets on the market, period. My son has a ko from 2003, that he's worn in over 100 matches, and it still fits him 5 years later, and looks like new. No snags or anything.
  9. .The worst part about this is the 4th place kid from the opposite sectional gets to go on. 3 of 4 kids from Austons section advanced to semi state. The only kid from the Peru sectional to advance was the champ, and he got 4th. They really need to come up with a better way to get the best kid available to fill the spot. Being a fourth seed, it probably won't matter, but you never know.
  10. Last year we had a wrestler go to this and had still had not wrestled his first match at 3:00. They eneded up leaving. That would be a long time to wait for a kid that is close to weight, and can not eat until after he weighs in.
  11. Have they already done this, or do they do it this week? If they havem where do you find them?
  12. Probably his mom and dad, his family, his friends, his fiance, all the people behind the scenes. ;D
  13. I think about every finals match should be exciting. I also think there will be a few upsets in the first round.
  14. Oak Hill is hosting a friendship meet the 27th of Feb. Anyone interested please contact me. It should start around 5:30 as we have the whole gym to ourselves. This will be 5th and under as middle school will be going by then for us. 15. p4p goes to Fedor, hands down. He could make 205 real easy if he wanted. Heres a guy with one lose. Lost his fourth fight of his career because of a cut, and then wins 27 in a row to the best guys there are. I love to watch Silva, but 4 loses and a 9 win streak isn't as impressive. But I think BJ, GSP and Silva are 4,3,2 respectivley.
  16. Spike ran a nice 3-part series, ending last night, about the way both fighters trained and prepared the weeks leading up to this fight. Seems both BJ and GSP are highly motived for this fight. Thats very key in this fight. BJ has gotten away with partial training his whole career. I can't wait to see what he will look like if he is taking this fight seriously. And on the ground, GSP isn't close to BJ's BJJ. BJ has the sickest rubber gaurd in mma.
  17. Last time, GSP had all of those and was getting his but kicked till B.J. gased. If BJ doesn't gas, he will ko or sub him in the 4th.
  18. Yes they were team mates. And I don't think it was fanthorpe, isn't he white?
  19. Yed to a kid that is wrestling for Nebraska now, don't know his name.
  20. So how are they sanctioning Elementary duals?
  21. And has one of the ugliest 'staches I have ever seen He's been growing it since jr. high! One of our assitants is from Ill and knows him and Kenedy. He says Dennis benched 300# his senior year!
  22. How can you not like Daneil Dennis? Here's a guy who never wins state, and walks on at Iowa, and takes the spot from an Ncaa runner up.
  23. What a great story. It just proves what wrestling is all about, if you never stop improving, and keep working to get better, even when no one else thinks you can, the sky is the limit!
