  1. Booker T: I was only joking when I said the Cubs are a minor league team, although the American League knocks the you know what out of the National League in inter-league play. As far as Holmes being in AA, instead of AAA, how about Mater Dei, which is a small school, they seem to do ok against the bigger schools. I'm sure this Holmes kid had beaten some AAA school kids this year.

  3. To answer the question of what class the Holmes kid from Illinois was in the answer is class AA. What difference does it make. The Cubs play in the minor leagues and they have beaten the Sox, which is a major league team.
  4. Roach beat a number 1 ranked kid from Illinois Saturday. the kid weighed in at 140 to dodge Roach, so our coach bumped Roach up to 140 to give him some solid competition and Roach came out with a 6-3 victory. He has not been taken down all year and Crown Point has 2 other kids that haven't been taken down all year. Saturday the real show starts. One of our undefeated kids has to wrestle another undefeated kid, unless there is an upset along the way. That Merrillville semi-state is going to be "The Greatest Show on Earth". Better get there early if you don't want to have to stand up to watch the matches.
  5. lst Match Crown Point 65 Mckinley 3 (only loss was at 215 5-3 in overtime) 2nd match Crown Point 68 Lake Community 9 Actual only loss was at 171 5-4 The other 6 pints came at 135 where there was a dbl forfeit. Roach bumped up to 140 to wrestle a kid named Holmes, who is ranked lst at 135 in class2A in Illinois. Roach won the match 6-3. Holmes weighed in at 140 Saturday. 3rd match Crown Point 71 North Chicago 6 Only loss was a pin in ovefrtime at heavyweight.

  8. I haven't seen anything on how Merrillville and Mater Dei did at the Gateway duals. Does anyone have any info on their results. Someone from Warren Central posted on how they did, also were any of the Indiana boys (individuals) undefeated?

  11. I made a post on changes in weight classeson 12-31. There were other suggestions also. What happened to these posts? I looked all thru the Articles of Interest pages and can't find these posts again. I can find mine., but only if I go to my posts. There are other articles that seem to dissapear. I would appreciate it if someone could explain why they are removed or where are they moved to. Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks for your consideration to my request.
  12. I'd be for them combining the 103-112 to make it 110, but I would rather have them make a 182lb, change the 189 to 195, and make a 220 lb class. Now there is 18 pounds between the 171 and 189 and those are some of the most exciting weights.
  13. To B. Woodward: The match you are referring to between Roach and Churchard was truly exciting, but should have been won by Roach, hadn't it been for a couple of bad calls by the ref. lol
  14. The bad thing about this change is that the Merrillville Semi-state will be that much more crowded the beginning round. In the past many people would wait because they didn't think the best wrestlers in the classes would be wrestling til later. You'd better be lined up by 7:00 A.M. if you expect to get a seat for the lst round, what a shame that they don't change this venue. How many complaints does the IHSAA have to get before they wisen up. It doesn't help that the AD from Merrillville is on the state board.
  15. Damon Hummel: He was not a 4 time SS champ. His freshman year he got pinned at state on Friday night by Jason Tone from FW Dwenger, so he must've lost at Merrillville at semi-state, because Jason Stewart from LN was the winner in his bracket at state. His 2nd year he got beat at semi-state by Todd Wieczorek from SB Rileybut did make it to the finals at state and got beat 5-4 by Derrick Robinson from LN. My wife got the state book marked "BOO-STALLING" by the final score of that match. Robinson had cut to 189 from heavyweight in 1991. Hummel's Junior year he won SS but got beat 11-7 by Schneider at Heavyweight. His Senior year he won SS, but got beat in the state finals 8-4, again by Schneider. However, he was the most exciting wrestler that I have seen. I just wish that they would've had a 215 pound class his last 2 years.
  16. XCARD: Boy is the "Times" wrong if they consider the Braggin Rights team an all area team, since thye are all seniors and we all know that there are underclassmen that can beat some of those seniors that do give up some of their time to wrestle on that team.
  17. I get the Times (Hammond). They had a decent article about the CP_Merrillville meet, but butchered the acutal scores of the individual matches. They had Halsted getting teched 6-2, when in fact he got pinned, they had Hawkins winning by tech 10-5, when it was actually 20-5 ,they had Roach winning by tech 8-2, when it was 18-2. They had Jones (145) teching Bruno, when in fact Jones beat Renn 5-3. This might not be all the reporter's fault though, since Bruno was announced when the teams were introduced. I saw the Post Tribune's arfticles and they were better than The Times. The Times does have the individual matches in the dual meets most of the time, which we can be thankful for.
  18. If Providence makes it here there should be a good match at 189. Cook was a state qualifer last year and was beaten in the lst round by Stahl, the state champ.

    C. Barnett: The odds of me hitting another deer have gone up since I won't be following Mr.Schurg, who hit the deer in the first place and I won't have Bill Hawkins, Sr. as my co-pilot. I hope you are sitting in the stands Wed. at the Cp-Merrillville meet instead of being out on the mat.
  20. Karl: I was wandering how we got those rosters this year, since we've never received them before. You gentlemen that started up this new site in such an expediate fashion can be proud of yourselves, you guys are doing an amazing job to create more interest in Indiana wrestling. But Watkins still does a great job.
  21. Karl Hungus: I'm sorry, I must've looked at the wrong weight class when I said Goodwin was ranked 4th. According to the roster sheets passed out at the Traicoff Goodwin was ranked 13th. Wadkins and staff sure run a nicely organized tournament. And I think they have the best concession stand in Northwest Indiana.
  22. I don't think the competition was too tough at the Merrillville duals over the weekend. Chesterton went 4-1, losing only to Merrillvuille. Crown POINT BEAT cHESTERTON 67-0.
  23. Groundhog: The backup at the Tricoff was at 145 pounds and his name is Tommy Renn. He did do an outstanding job, only losing 5-3 to Goodwin, who is ranked #4 and Renn weighs under 140. His father was a state champ in 1974. He sure gives 100% plus out on the mat.

I think Clive misspoke when she said it is always in the gym. Any JV meet that I have been to has been in the fieldhouse. Please be more accurate in your posts.
