  1. Marion has had two State Streeters in the last five years.......................
  2. Ya, I definitely understand the problem. I was just pointing out that if a kid is told you have to make 173, and he makes 172.8 for example, it's not all his fault. The coaches and tournament directors have got to communicate better because someone gets the short end, even though both wrestlers followed the rules as explained to them.
  3. But wasn't the wrestler in question underweight by the information that was given to him by his coach? The way I understand it, the coach told him you get two pounds, and they only got one. Is this the case? It's hard to punish a kid if he went by the info his coach gave him. I'm not familiar with the situation or if he would have made weight with the extra pound.
  4. Biberstine was not even on my radar for advancing deep in the tournament until I saw him at Huntington a while back and he really looked good. It sounds like 215 should be pretty competitive at Jay County. I'm still going with Bultemeier. Although he didn't wrestle at the end of the year last year because of a broken bone, remember this: At the beginning of the year last year, this was Bellmont's depth chart at 189: 1. Bultemeier 2. Travis Thatcher (SQ at 189) 3. Daniel Meyer (SQ at HWT)
  5. I feel like there have been two different Cathedral teams this year. The team at Traicoff was missing several guys, and then they looked like a Top 10 team again for a while, and then they finished 3rd place, behind Roncalli in a recent individual tournament. Perry Meridian definitely has some weak spots in their lineups, but I am not sure Cathedral has enough horses to win 7 matches against Coach Tonte.
  6. I think you might be off the mark a little bit in saying that he is "very" defensive. I think there is some sort of sentiment that because he is smaller that he is supposed to do more than the big guy. Maybe it's just because I am biased. But in a lot of his matches, I see him working a lot more on his feet than the other guy. Granted, against Whitko, he may have been defensive like you said, but he definitely takes more shots on average than the guy he faces (which is sometimes zero). To me, he is one of the most interesting wrestlers that I've seen in a while. Sometimes the outcomes of his matches could easily be reversed if a different official were on the mat, and that goes both ways, winning or losing.
  7. For those of you picking Jay County at 215, let me know some details on this guy. Whom has he beaten?
  8. Peru and Huntington North should have one of the closest sectional scores in the state, IMO.
  9. I would definitely put Huntington North ahead of Peru in your rankings. They handled them earlier this year.
  10. He did pin Schrader last year. Not sure how much that counts for now, haha, seeing that Schrader won the Al Smith. Carlin also lost to Rothgeb in OT last year at Team Regional, and he is definitely right there with them. Hopefully he can get back to wrestle him again and finally get over the hump when it will really count.
  11. The SB Clay issue has been well-discussed. They have only wrestled two top teams. They wrestled half of Yorktown's lineup and then got slammed by Merrillville. Every other team in the rankings has a quality win to hang their hat on. Here are Yorktown's notable results: W, Bellmont 52-19 W, Garrett 55-12 W, Chesterton 51-22 W, Elkhart Memorial 65-6 W, New Haven 66-9 1st-Yorktown 288.5 2nd-Castle 243.5 3rd-Mooresville 156 W, Brownsburg 58-5 W, Holt (MI) 39-28 W, Ben Davis 58-12 W, Franklin 46-21 W, Jeffersonville 36-25 I have them at 27-1 currently.
  12. 1. Mishawaka (18-0) 2. Ev. Mater Dei (17-0) 3. Crown Point (10-1) 4. Merrillville (17-2) 5. Yorktown (27-1) 6. Perry Meridian (21-1) 7. Castle (13-3) 8. Portage (13-6) 9. Penn (11-3) 10. Bloomington South (15-4) 11. Bellmont (18-5) 12. Franklin (15-6) 13. Ev. Reitz (16-0) 14. Jeffersonville (20-6) 15. New Palestine (22-5) 16. Roncalli (4-3) 17. Cathedral (10-2) 18. SB Clay (22-1) 19. Carmel (7-4) 20. Lawrence North (6-4) I would appreciate someone from Ev. Memorial and North Central sending me a rundown of their team's results for the year to date. Let the discussions begin.
  13. To clarify my post: I was obviously calling the administration's decision a sham, not the Evansville Memorial team or program. I was trying to point out that it seems somewhat ridiculous that Castle was able to bring their team and a pretty decent fan base while Memorial was told they weren't allowed to come. They would have taken the same roads that Castle and Perry Meridian did to get to Decatur. Obviously the coaches and wrestlers from Memorial wanted to come to Bellmont and I never meant to make it sound like they were somehow dodging any of those teams. They have been VERY competitive against Bellmont in past years.
  14. Bellmont and Perry Meridian split 7-7, with Perry winning 34-29.
  15. What a sham........... I would say that ends Evansville Memorial's spot in the Bellmont Super Dual. I'm hoping Castle takes their spot next year.
  16. I think someone took a year long nap.
  17. The new Bellmont slate looks like this now (not sure of the order though) Whitko Castle Bluffton Mishawaka Perry Meridian 3 Undefeateds and a team with one loss, along with Bluffton's studs. What a day
  18. It sounds like FW Concordia is filling the final open spot tomorrow.
  19. I wonder if they will just plug Castle and the other team into the spots BS and EM had, or if they will rework the entire schedule to satisfy the other teams.
  20. I may be able to talk my wife into it. She has a friend from high school that recently got engaged to a MHS grad. We now have a place to stayfor the Al Smith for at least the next twenty years..........
  21. Hopefully Faurote can post a schedule sometime tonight so I have something to talk about tonight.
  22. What a great opportunity this weekend for the two top teams in the South to show what they have. Hopefully Castle will get to wrestle Mishawaka and Perry Meridian. Ev. Mater Dei will also wrestle Merrillville in St. Louis tomorrow.
  23. Yikes coach, good luck with this invitation. Let's see if any coaches out there are brave enough to sign up for the best 8-team dual meet in the state on one day's notice!!! If not, I am looking forward to just wrestling this as a 6-Way. I will finally get to see my first Mishawaka vs. Penn match, as long as both teams do the right thing and agree to it again. At first I was disappointed with losing matches with Bloomington South and Evansville Memorial, but replacing them with matches with Penn and Whitko won't be that much of a difference.
