  1. The first thing that I ever read regarding officiating is that as an official you do not want to be noticed. The grey shirts help in that way. That is why I'm in favor of them. If it were a fashion issue...the stripes make my beer belly look much better. I quess I can care less either way.
  2. News Update: 2127 days since Michigan has beaten Ohio State in Football.

  4. I think the lesson taught here is that not everybody has the same view on procedures. When faced with a different environment, adapt to it or live with it. The only time that anybody is reguired to shake hands are the wrestlers at the beginning and end of each match. Perhaps CP feels differently about shaking hands than most other coaches. I do not know of any other contest where opponants shake hands so often. In a dual meet; introductions, before the match, end of match, with the coach, and after the dual---5 times. In a tourney; finals intro, before the match, end of match, with the coach---4 times.
  5. GM at PolyVinyl Sales...We sell fence, deck, and railing.
  6. I hope Jake O'Brien continues to win...but it is called MIXED Martial Arts. Increased stand-up and BJJ skills will put him at the next level. He has a tremendous amount of POtential. I wish him the best down the line.
  7. Penn does not belong at 170. He is a beast at 155.
  8. Strikes, Grappling, Control, and Aggression...In that order. That is the determination for judging. I did not score the fight on paper but I felt that the judges where off. Further, there is no such thing as an easy 29-28. Often one strike or simply aggression could be the difference in a match. With all judges having different views of the cage the judging becomes very subjective or even pure luck for the fighter of the judges view. I think the system is good even though the subjective nature of judging is involved. It goes back to the old saying...don't leave it up to the refs/judges. My opinion may not be the same as others but that is what judging and refing is about...trying to be consistant.
  9. I think the judges are off a little tonight. Perisian and the tkd guy was off too.
  10. Guida thanked everyone but the refs for the gift.
  11. Does Andy Nicola look like Clay Guida or what...I mean with long hair.
  12. Culver is only $36000 a year, but they do offer scholarships to a large percentage of their student body.

  14. There are two bills on the slate for our state legislature. There is a governing body in the state of Indiana. It is the State Boxing Commision. There are, however, no rules in place and therefore no need for regulation. If regulation happens, there will be little change in the beginning. One large change will be that amatuer fighters will either not be allowed to fight in shows or not be allowed to take any type of compensation (Gas, Hotel, Etc.). In addition, promoters will be required to use certified judges and referees. Regulation would be a great advancement for the state. It will allow for a much safer sport. All professional fighters will be required to follow rules when they are knocked out or submitted. Further, their fight records will be closely monitered by national governing bodies. This is so that there is equitable matches. This is just the tip of the iceberg as the state moves forward. The bills however are not high priorites for the state legislature. If the state does not do anything soon, we will continue to be viewed as a very backward state. When I talk to other officials, judges, promoters, and show directors from other states, we are viewed in a very negative position.
  15. Torres has mad ground skills. 'nough said.
  16. One thing that will be very difficult for you to get used to in wrestling will be to post a hand, elbow, knee, or foot on the mat. Often in BJJ that will get you in a position for a submission hold whereas in wrestling in will prevent the opponant from scoring. The biggest advantage that wrestling will bring is the control of your hips. This will be very benificial in BJJ from a bottom position and into transitions. Best of luck with both.
  17. Jake O'Brien is slated on the UFC 94 card on Jan 31st. I am also looking forward to Jake getting back into winning form.
  18. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of the non-Christians as well.
  19. Last years Roach vs. Churchard. While Tommy came out on top, the matchup was extremely exciting. I was fortunate to ref the first one. It was one of the best matches I have ever had the privaledge to do.
  20. how do you embed a pic in the body of a post?

I enjoy BJJ the most, but I am partial to TKD.
