  1. Clive, If there were no real surprises, then how come CP didn't pull off victories in 10 weight classes? I was surprised that Halsted got pinned. I was also surprised that Shurg lost and by fall. He doesn't get pinned very often. I hope the CP kids realize the road to team state is not going to be easy. Over the past few years I've seen Merrillville's team improve quite a bit over the course of the season. Thanks to both teams for an exciting and entertaining dual. Good wrestling by both teams.
  2. So does that mean that Graber has already made weight at 171 this year?
  3. So I do not want to get into all of the issues, but if the kid wants to wrestle that bad, then the article said that he can go to Penn and do it. Not knowing the circumstances that motivated his transfer in the first place, it seems like he should just go back to Penn and wrestle. Harper's a good coach and he would probably do fine there. There must be something else going on to keep the kid from wrestling his senior season. That's a huge personal sacrifice to make for him.
  4. So Y2 et al.... I know you guys are busy with this site and all and it is great, but I was wondering if there was going to be an ultimate pickem contest this year for the Al Smith. So can you do it? Huh, huh can you? Ok ..... if you can't I understand, but it would be cool.
  5. Coach Pendoski when he was at Portage. If he would have continued coaching HS I am sure that he would be someone that people would mention on here.
  6. Mr. Right, That is not a fair comparison that you are making. 145 lber wrestling a 189 lber is not the same as a 230 lber wrestling a 275 lber. The majority of heavy weights that actually weigh 270 - 280 could stand to lose a few pounds and do not have very good technique. I will take the kid that is a legitimate 230 (<12% body fat let's say) with good technique over some roley poley 285 lber that just leans on people waiting to pounce any day. How many kids weigh in at 275 lbs that are beasts? One that I can think of recently is Dexter Larimore and these poor little guys named Ruggeri and Kasten still found ways to win against him. When Dexter's technique improved and he was a legit 275 or so with good technique guess what. He was pretty much unstoppable because he won state and Senior Nationals and deservedly so. I think that adding another weight class in the 200s (like 240) is a bad idea and bad for wrestling. I would like to see the weight classes readjusted starting with 103 being changed to 108 or so and I have posted the weight classes I would like numerous times in the past (on the old crummy board). PS I do understand what you are saying with your argument. I was a 152 lber in high school and a little bit better probably than our 171 lber, but I could not beat him in the room because he was too big for me, but that's just not the same thing.
  7. Xcard, I don't normally follow the class wrestling arguments. Are you really for class wrestling or is that sarcasm? I am guessing sarcasm for now. By the way. The single class system in Indiana is great. Every state should switch to this format.
  8. hey y2, the link to the power rankings doesn't seem to be working. Is it in the process of being updated?
  9. DuneFan, you're busted. I know who you are. Too easy. See you tomorrow at Calumet.
  10. I can't wait for the Fabio rankings to come out because that is definitely where I want to get my unbiased wrestling information from.
  11. Hey Rat (the real one), I was just wondering if the imposter is still making stupid posts on the lame old board or if he tracked you down on this one yet? I haven't seen any sign of him so far which is nice.
  12. Hey Y2, Are the Wednesday night chat days on chat.garrettwrestling.com gone for good now?
  13. Eric, nice article. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Good luck at school and with wrestling. Hey, what's your screen name on this board? Y2, can anyone allocate those cool points, or only the 5 star members? I was trying to give one out, but I couldn't figure it out. Thanks
  14. I am all for getting rid of that growth allowance. Maybe I am just jealous it wasn't around when I could have used it, but it does seem kind of silly. Coaches need to tell their kids not to take that ephedrine crap to cut weight. Just another log to throw on the old, "wrestling was tougher when I was doing it fire." Which I don't really believe by the way.
  15. In case anyone is interested. Coach Eggert is a great coach with a great perspective who gets the most out of the talent he has in the room (which is not too much some years). http://illinoismatmen.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19548
  16. Cameron Halstead from CP at 103 should be pretty solid.
  17. I got mine at my first greco meet in high school. I was the big bad freshman watching all of my teammates getting tossed on their backs and pinned and I would go running up to them saying "you're outta there, Roy!" with a grin on my face and my thumb pointing towards the door. So I am getting ready to wrestle my first greco match and it turns out I draw this kid from this strange sounding club, the Harvey Twisters. I got tossed in like 15 seconds and pinned. Needless to say, plenty of my teammates were eager to greet me with a "you're outta there, Roy!" The name somehow stuck with me and evolved to Royboy. I added the 74 because I was born in '74.
  18. I checked the South Bend Trib. I didn't see any scores for Mishawaka vs Adams wrestling. What's up with that?
  19. Does anyone know if Harper is going 125 this year? Has he already weighed in at this weight?
  20. Hey Y2, Could you give a little more explanation as to how these are determined. Is this a new super top secret formula? How do you rate Fargo Junior success vs Fargo Cadet success? How do you rate Greco vs FS success as pertaining to their folkstyle wrestling abilities? How do tournaments like Super 32 and Virginia Beach Nationals factor into it? How does participation in events like Brute Scholastic Duals and Team Indiana FS teams and stuff factor into it? Is there any way to factor in the difficulty of the weight class when considering previous state champs and placers from different weight classes? Just wondering. It seems like it is a pretty tough job. I don't agree with the style and flair points that Karl Hungus brought up though. I think it should be solely based on how tough the kid is to beat. As an example, I wouldn't have given Andrew Howe a ton of flair points, but I am sure that he would have been at the top of everyone's list last year had it existed. Anyways, thanks to you and the crew for putting this together. It makes for an interesting discussion. I am not saying that Quiroga does not deserve to be at the top of the list, but I think that he went 4-2 last year at Fargo and DNP. He took 7th at Virginia Beach Junior Nationals. However, I think that he had an undefeated showing for Team Indiana Gold at the Brute scholastic duals though. Harper is a 3X state champ with 1 loss in high school, but DNP at Virginia Beach Junior Nationals. How do you sort it all out?

    Chat?????

Is there any way that you could build the chat into this website like it used to be? That was pretty cool. Then this place would be like a one stop shop. Seriously though, this board is nice. Thanks, Y2.
