  1. Maybe you didn't offer the right sizes?
  2. Very excited to announce that the NWCA and the United States Marine Corps will sponsor a Scholastic Leadership Academy at Pendleton Heights High School on Saturday, October 30. Pennsylvania coaching legend Dave Crowell will be out presenter. Coach Crowell has won seven PA team state titles at three different schools. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. The presentation Coach Crowell will present is new material from the two previous SLAs we have held in Indiana so everyone can benefit from attending. SLA 300 covers Women's Wrestling and Sport Safety in Wrestling. As we push for IHSAA sanctioning of girls wrestling we can all benefit from learning best practices for program parameters. Safety is a vital concern for all levels of wrestling from youth to high school. Nothing can wreck a program faster than the perception that safety concerns were not addressed. The cost is ZERO for NWCA members. Membership cost is $50. You can register now at the NWCAonline.com at this link: Scholastic Leadership Academy Registration Don't miss the great opportunity to help grow our sport.
  3. Greg Warren will be appearing with Bob and Tom regular Josh Arnold at the Alex Theater in Alexandria on Saturday, Sept 11. Doors open at 7:00 pm and show starts at 8:00. You can get tickets online at alexmovietheatre.com. I spoke with Greg and he said there will likely be more adult humor and so the show may not be appropriate for kids. Greg was an All-American wrestler for Missouri University. He is a big supporter of high school wrestling and a genuinely funny guy. Hope to see you there. Dave Cloud

  10. So sorry to hear this. Mac and his Dad were quite a pair and it was always fun to coach against him. Really got to know him when he came back to coach at Connersville. Mac always took time to say hello and talk about old times. Deepest sympathies from Arabian Wrestling to Mac's family and Spartan and Trojan Wrestling. RIP, Mac. Dave Cloud
  11. Fantastic clinic. Great job by the IHSWCA officers in putting on a safe and high quality event with lots of helpful information.
  12. Coaches, I apologize for the delay in getting these certificates to you. This is a Marines program which the NWCA assists on. I just spoke to Nate Naasz at the NWCA today and he is trying to get an answer from the Marines on when these will be delivered. I will keep you informed when I hear something back. 13. Congratulations to the wrestling coaching staff of the Edgewood High School Mustangs! They were named the 2020 NWCA Region 4 Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. Coach Greg Ratliff's staff was the 2020 Indiana Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. State award winners advance to Region selection. The Mustang staff was named Region 4 Staff of the Year and advanced to the national level selection process. The selection of the Mustang assistant coaching staff of John Bray, Marty Deckard, Toby Turner, Danny Coyne and Buddy Mitchell have represented our state well. It has been a good week for Indiana High School wrestling at the national level. Penn High School's girls assistant coaching staff, in addition to receiving Region 4 honors was named the 2020 NWCA Girls Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. Penn High School head coach Brad Harper was named Region 4 head coach of the year and was runner-up for National Coach of the Year honors. As Indiana's NWCA rep, it is my honor to commend the coaches of the Edgewood Mustangs and Penn Kingsmen for their excellence as coaches and for representing our state so well.
  14. As NWCA rep for Indiana, it is my great pleasure to announce that Penn HIgh School has been honored with the award for 2020 NWCA Girls High School Wrestling Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. The Penn High School Staff has been instrumental in building the Kingsmen program into a powerhouse. The Kingsmen have won all four IHSGWA State Championships. The staff, Amy HIldebrandt, Matt Selis, Jon Reppert, Kaitlin Dickman, Kristen Hills and Mariah Eberhart were named the NWCA Indiana Staff of the Year and then were named the Region 4 Staff of the Year before being selected as National Staff of the Year. This is a tremendous honor for the Kingsmen, the Mishawaka community and the Indiana wrestling family. Their success has helped advance the effort to win sanctioning for girls wrestling. Kingsmen head coach Brad Harper has assembled an amazing staff for Penn's women's program. This award also serves as a recognition of his commitment to providing wrestling opportunities for the girls of Penn High School. Coach Harper's efforts have not gone unnoticed. He was named the 2020 NWCA Indiana Girls Wrestling Head Coach of the Year. Coach Harper was also named the Region Head Coach of the Year. He finished as national runner-up to Mike Simons of Thurston High School in Oregon as National Coach of the Year. Indiana Wrestling is proud of the Coach Harper, his coaching staff and the Kingsmen Girls Wrestling Team. 15. Congratulations to Aundre and the Warren Central Warrior Program. Marian is getting a stud.
  16. Great to see our Big Ten schools in the hunt for more of the elite wrestlers. Coach Escobedo and Coach Ersland are doing it right!
  17. Performance Nutrition Coach Erin Sparrold will present Fueling Your Wrestlers tonight at 7:30 pm. You can register on the NWCAonline.com website or on the link on the NWCA Twitter account. Erin has presented at the NWCA Convention and she is outstanding. She will also present again on May 24 with Women are Not Small Men: Fueling Strategies for Female Wrestlers. You can also ask questions. This program is sponsored by the USMC and the NWCA. Hope to "see" you there tonight!
  18. Coaches--I just spoke to Nate Naasz at NWCA. The Academic and Leadership/Character programs are officially run by the USMC. The NWCA compiles the information and sends it to the Marines for them to get the certificates. The program normally involves a U.S. Marine coming to the recipient's school to present the certificates. Since the Covid-19 lock down made that impossible I think the program was delayed. Nate has sent out the Scholar certificates (let me know if you have not received yours).Nate said he had contacted Col. Fallon who is in charge of recruiting in this area of the country. He has not heard back yet and will be speaking to him tonight and will ask again about the Leadership & Character certificates with hope of getting the issue resolved tonight. Sorry for the delay in getting these to you.
  19. Congratulations to all of our Indiana high school wrestlers named NWCA/USMC Leadership & Character All-Americans. You can check out the names at the link below. The National Wrestling Coaches Association is proud to partner with the United States Marine Corps to recognize achievement in academics (Scholar All-Americans) and leadership & character. We had a good number of Indiana wrestlers who were named Leadership & Character All-Americans this year. Next year I hope we can greatly increase the number of Scholar and Leadership & Character All-Americans from Indiana. I encourage you to make this Leadership & Character award a special recognition for those truly outstanding members of your team. If you look at the criteria (below), the award is meant to represent the very best of your program. Congratulations to all of these wrestlers. http://www.nwcaonline.com/awards/nwca_usmc_leadership_character_aa_award/
  20. Proud of what Mark is doing there at Ancilla. Great opportunity for those kids who need to strengthen their academic foundation before heading on to a four-year to finish their careers. This is Indiana's ONLY junior college wrestling program. Go Chargers!
  21. Due to continuing uncertainty about reopening of state economies and travel constraints, the 2020 NWCA Convention scheduled will be conducted as a virtual program. The price has been lowered to $150. The convention will have all of the high quality presentations you have come to expect if you have attended previous conventions. There will be presentations for college coaches, high school coaches, officials and retired coaches. The exhibitors' trade show will also go virtual. The convention will run from July 29-31. Go to NWCAonline.com to get more information. If you have never attended a convention, this is a great chance to see what it is like from the comfort of your own home.
  22. Congratulations to the Indiana high school wrestlers who were recognized as 2020 NWCA/U.S. Marines Scholar All-Americans! The National Wrestling Coaches Association is proud to partner with the United States Marine Corps to recognize outstanding scholar athletes in the scholastic wrestling community. The requirements are a 3.5/4 or higher G.P.A. and earning a varsity letter winner. It is a privilege to recognize these Hoosier scholastic wrestlers. Hopefully we can get a much larger number of our athletes recognized next season. Dave Cloud NWCA Representative The Indiana wrestlers: Name School Jacob Kreager Ft. 23. Reducing opportunities for athletes is not the answer. What happens if this doesn't work? Do we drop to 12 weights...11? How about going the Olympic route and just have 6 weights? While forfeits can happen at large or small schools, it would seem the problem is most severe at smaller schools. Why not have a smaller number of weights for smaller schools? I looked at the NFHS participation statistics for 2018-2019 and 2009-2010. During that span the average wrestling roster size fell by about 8%. During that same time span the average 11-player high school football roster size fell by 9%. Has anyone heard a proposal to reduce from 11 players to 10 on the field? Instead, 6- (+77%) and 8-player (+26%) football programs have grown tremendously while the number of 11-player football programs grew by .1% (during that same span the number of wrestling teams grew by 4.7%). Why not look at this possible solution first instead of punishing those programs that have been more successful in recruiting/retaining wrestlers?
  24. Happy for Coach Jones and his team. Nobody deserves this more.
