That's weird. I saw in the Mooresville sectional, there was a Injury forfeit at 150 in the quarter finals, then that kid came back to wrestle his way into the 5th place.
I've seen it more from the position they don't want them competing, especially cutting weight. I've also seen a downright prohibition on QBs getting in the wrestling room, but most of the coaches I've seen are all for lineman, linebackers, and even RBs being in the wrestling room for a few months.
It's unknown if they communicated with their opponent or event organizers. They had qualifying weigh ins at every weight but 1 according to track, but posted multiple forfeits in the two duals they wrestled, and did not compete in their final dual against Avon. According to some of the wrestlers at the meet, they just left, but that's second/third/fourth hand information.
Ok. Taking it as face value, what's the cultural difference between Warren central and say perry meridian? Or WC and any of the schools you're putting into a "good ole boys club"?
I think turning it to a racial thing is a big leap. I don't doubt the talk would be exactly the same if it was EMD or perry that just up and left before the last dual of the tournament. Maybe there was a perfectly good reason for it; maybe the coach even cleared it with Avon/the event staff before they left. I honestly hope they did, because team state seems like a better tournament with WC there, and removing them over this is only going to hurt their program and their kids in the long run; those kids definitely don't deserve that. But from the outside looking in, it's not a good look.
It was more an attempt to pot stir. I know the cg kid was 100% ready to roll, and I'm personally of the "just let them wrestle" mind set. I also believe you've got a better chance of winning a 50/50 match if you've got experience with the kid.
A team could certainly have an off day, especially if they have a long drive to get there. Weird things happen to kids when they're stuck on a bus/get up way too early.
WC putting up a string of forfeits was weird, and just made no sense. I was half watching, but it looked like they wrestled all those weights in the next dual, and then just left instead of wrestling the final consolation match.
EMD pulling their hwt in the 3/4 dual with CG was weird too. He was up and getting ready, then the coach saw the CG kid check in and said "nah, we're not doing this today".
you gotta keep the people primed with anticipation! The power poll provides a hint that there may be a shakeup in the rankings, so now you tune in for more info...
Long story, but they're both seniors and splitting time until the wrestle off. The one that stayed home for the Al Smith is the current #4 in the state who's currently 18-2 with 15 pins (and the two losses were at the Iron Man). CG has a stacked room, and it's still getting better.
