7 classes in Evansville and 7 classes in FW. Wed-Thurs in Evansville and Fri-Sat Fort Wayne. That's what the IHSAA would love but know they wouldn't get away with.
Please dont give them any ideas

I believe the EC gym is the 2nd largest or 3rd largest gym in the state and/or country. Not sure you could find a better place to hold an Indiana high school semi-state. Those of us that have been around a while remember the Merrillville days. Ran well but that first two rounds were tough. If you didn't get there an hour early you were not getting a seat. Sure maybe they could use more training on how to control the crowd. But the size and space of that gym are impressive. Hopefully, EC staff are on here and listen to you and others.
The gym size is fine, if you come as a spectator its has plenty of room. But the floor for the wrestlers is the biggest issue. Having one set of small bleachers pulled out on the floor just makes for a hectic packed day. The floor space is the biggest issue, along with the poor PA system and workers who seem to be obsessed with the power of telling people what to do. Compared to every other semi state, EC definitely needs some upgrades.

A few more from Evansville, especially if you like drama, tight matches and comebacks.
106 - Isaiah Schaefer - Luke Rioux - semis
120 - Jared Dunn - Seth Cowden - ticket round
120 - Jared Dunn - Dominic McNeeley - semis (see a pattern here?)
120 - Lane Gilbert - Noah Lykins - semis
145- Anfernee Oliver - Alex Smith - 1st Round
160 - Chris Newman - Michael Hutchinson - ticket round
170 - Any Brody Baumann match - his finishes are so clean and he wrestles to score all the time!
182 - Any Reid Schroeder match. He's not afraid to get after it and roll around in scrambles. He won 3 matches by fall and lost 18-10 to Drake Buchanan.
220 - Royce Deckard III - Brody Ford - 1st roundcan you get me a link to watch the evansville? i cant find it

There is a parade of champions before both sessions on Friday.
There is no limit on spectators. The IHSAA did the RIGHT thing in allowing parents of athletes to get first dibs on tickets. I would hate to have parents not have first dibs on tickets and be forced to watch their son or daughter from the nosebleeds.
Yes, Parents getting first dibs is a win for families. Is the parade of champions just with the weights during that session? Because if so that still only addresses part of it. Having all the kids together Friday night is electric. Its the splitting that takes away from a big experience.

Alright, Ive seen different topics made similar to this and its bothering me a lot. That being the state tournament. It breaks my heart how it is being ran and how it is not even close to how used to be. These kids work all year and offseason to experience the state tournament. But with state not having the parade of champions, splitting into two sessions Friday and limited seating for families. I just cant help but notice that the energy is off. Last years state tournament was so strange to experience. Covid restrictions obviously started the change, but there has to be a better way to run the state tournament and still include all of the things that make state what it is. Seeing the stands packed Friday night and all the wrestlers on the floor together, nothing beats the experience.

it has to tuck into the singlet and sock. So leggings that are worn under the singlet are okay. Basically there cant be any skin showing. But if you shorten the ends by tucking them into the sleeve and making just the pad visible you should be fine.

I always find it funny when a kid pulls an upset at a sectional or regional and gets punished for it. I remember my senior year, Ty Haskins had upset Malik Hall at regionals, and Malik Hall got an easy draw while Haskins pulled Bettich in the ticket round. Even this year, Kaptur Nowaczyk beat Johnny Cortez for the first time this year at sectionals, and now Kaptur has to wrestle the #10 in the state while Cortez gets a much easier road to state.
My younger brother last year won sectional, lost a close heart breaker at regionals in the finals. He ends up drawing the number 1 in the bracket for the ticket. Im not being biased when i saw my brother was the second best wrestler in the bracket. Lost a close match with the number one. He goes on to win the semi state. Number 3 and 4 from our regional got a much much easier draw that day and one of them ends up making it to the next weekend. But thats the end of my brothers high school career? Its constant every year. Some kid draws the other really good kid and its heart breaking. For wrestling to have the best state series wrestle backs have to be implemented.
