  1. As a trophy business owner , I do think you should venture into it if you can. Maybe it's just my area , kids are so entitled and unwilling to work - they believe they should be the star without the effort.
  2. We are looking for some kids for the Virgina Beach Duals. Cost is $200 for team and custom gear $400 for team , gear and Hotel. We can provide a ride down if needed as well. We need a 126 & 152 We are finalizing other weights now - If you have any kids with interest please contact me Yusef Mohmed Yusefmohmed@hotmail.com or 219-916-2220 Or Jose Diaz Jdhomes@msn.com (219) 241-7227
  3. Parents are ruining sports - they give all their kids trophies , tell them how great they are , tell them they are champions; reward them for just competing. Then when they get to HS when it gets tough they quit - you have to earn things in this life and too many parents aren't teaching the kids that. So yes parents are ruining sports.
  4. I thought he was in 8th grade? Garcia rumor is Mendez will go to Lake Central - then again I swear his dad said MC. One person says he said LC -
  5. I might make the drive just to have a reason to hit shigs n pit.
  6. With spring break lots of kids are gone , Anyone have open room this week Tuesday or Thursday ? We will be at Hobart on Wednesday - looking to get some work in -
  7. Yes it is. That mis Cruz match was 10-3 mis and cruz Stormed back to 12-12 and let him up to start 3rd. 2:00 min of takedown after takedown attempt that were mad scrambles - Mis held on. Great match
  8. Pretty sure he's headed to Mt Carmel
  9. Same here. Saw junior 138 and 120. Then gone !
  10. I was gonna go 285 , but I don't feel like cutting weight right now. Lol
  11. Damn I just got fired for browsing this forum too much at work.
  12. We didn't release ours - we had lots of local teams show up and a couple out of town people called and asked if we had good numbers. We didn't use Iswa and we had 251 kids - last year with Iswa we had 279 kids. This year our tourney was held the same day as middle school conference so we missed out on lots of kids there and the fresh soph state was same day too. I will be in favor of releasing the matrix next year and weight classes not block weights. Gotta talk to head coach on those - We are going to add Jr division as well - It was a great turn out and fundraiser for our program - the local teams really came out in force -
  13. I'll be out there next week with my boy. Gotta talk to the other coaches see who wants to go. I will be making CMA a regular Monday for us.
  14. I heard Portage was not hosting , has anyone heard if anyone else is hosting this year ?
  15. We have 3 kids who are new to the sport that do not play other sports. 1 was our 106 back up , 1 our heavy and 1 our 152. They are not training much in off season though. That hopefully changes this offseason. Our best kids run cross and play football 1 plays baseball & football he scares the life out of me - he's our 132 and is not afraid of anything on the field. Fun to watch and keeps us busy scheduling Open mats and technique sessions.
  16. I agree they will compete against anyone - I also believe they want to compete against the best. Although we are talking The top kids and maybe the kids who are new would stay and benefit greatly from a class system - with success you will have more coming out.
  17. Being from a school with a program that's 4 years old and a 2a school. My observation is it takes dedicated parents , youth program , middle school program and good coaches to build a successful team. I've never heard a kid say "if we were in a Class sectional we would win !" Kids that compete typically want to compete against the best. "If you build it , they will come" That's the motto I'm taking with our program. Starting at the youth level and moving up.
  18. I am trying to get on the football staff next year. I am trying to pull kids in non stop - if I'm on the staff I'll have a better chance I'm sure. We started the season with 15 kids after 2 days 13 after 1 week 12 - with injuries we went to sectionals with 7 kids. 1 was a backup to our 170 - 4 advanced to regional - 3 to semi state and 1 to state. It's our 4th year of Varisty wrestling. We have our first year of Middle school this year and our club is growing a little now. We hope in 4 more years our program will have the numbers if we keep building. I don't buy the 3a has more to choose it's the work ethic , resources and feeder program that does it. With the small success and getting our Athletic Department behind us - we can grow it. We only had 4 football players , I hope to remedy that next year. It's not the size of the man in the fight , its the size of the fight in the man !
  19. That's where we were concerned. They can compete , but could we be matside as we still have a wrestler competing this weekend? The wrestler is not in season , but we are ? Ultimately the wrestler decided he didn't want to go and the head coach wanted him to take a break as well. This was just our concern when we started talking about them going - I'm assuming it would be fine since technically the wrestler is out of the state tournament and his season is over Great question - our main wrestler who was going to go is the training partner of our kid - it's an area that is questionable for us.
  20. There is no miscommunication. Rules 9-11,9-12, 9-13, 9-14 Sunday coaching , activities and athletic contest are prohibited. May Schools hold or sanction Sunday Practices or interschool Contests? No, neither member School nor their students may participate in Contests, Practices or clinics on Sunday. (rule 9-13) May a member of a high school coaching staff in a sport give lessons on Sunday, during the Authorized Practice or Contest Season, to a student who is on a team in that sport? No, a member of a high school coaching staff may not give lessons to any member of the team on Sunday. (rule 9-13) For example, a tennis coach on the high school coaching staff, who also provides individual or group tennis lessons at the local tennis facility, may not give lessons on Sunday to any member of the tennis team during the Authorized Practice or Contest Season. May a member of a high school coaching staff have any contact with a team member on Sunday, during the Authorized Practice or Contest Season? Yes, students and coaches may have contact on Sunday, provided the contact is in no way related to coaching activities or related to athletic participation. May a member of a high school team in an Individual Sport, during the Authorized Practice or Contest Season, participate in a School Practice on Sunday? No, it is a violation of the Sunday rule for a student athlete to participate in a School Practice on Sunday. A Practice attended by a member of the coaching staff or called by any One (1) connected with the coaching staff is prohibited. For example, if several swimmers on a School team, who also belonged to a non-school club, decided to swim on Sunday at a club practice to prepare for the upcoming state high school swim meet, their practice would violate the Sunday rule if a member of the high school coaching staff called or even encouraged this practice, or if a member of the coaching staff was present during this practice.
