  1. I am so glad to see One Class tech fall Multi Class. Keep Indiana Wrestling High School State respectable.
  2. No change of heart here. I try my best to listen to the sales pitch of the size class supporters but sorry no sale. Please do not water down the Indiana State Championships, just as Indiana is finally getting more respect every year. I hate to be a downer but college coaches look at National tournaments more than any state tournament.
  3. Anyone trackcast slow loading?
  4. Thanks to both the young men for not choosing to move up or down a weight. The collision course has happened and let us wait and see who ends up on top of the crash of talents.
  5. Let us hope they do not fix something that is not broke.
  6. Most, if not all top tier states have greater population. Those states always produce more college AA's then us and that will result in better future coaches when the AA's return home to work with greater number of athletes. The rich always get richer. Sorry
  7. Illinois has almost double Indiana population. Once we double our state's population I am okay with two class system.
  8. While Indiana high school wrestling has been improving steadily over the years, the depth of talent after the top 6 or so state placers is still lacking compared to top tier states. We have gained national attention with our top guys. Why water it down with less than stellar talent winning State Championships in smaller classes? Plenty of small school kids have won state by putting in the work year round by traveling to find the best off season partners and tournaments. These types of kids relish the one class system by taking down giants.
  9. Wrestler up by 2% just now....take a few seconds to vote.
  10. I appreciate his contributions to the greatest sport known to man and offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
  11. I thought that this was a story about a wrestler vs. 3 basketball players in a brawl. My first thought was pretty even odds.
  12. Mason has one sweet barrel roll takedown. Could not believe how many times he hit the same takedown at state last year.
  13. I don't hate funk but I do hate the injuries caused to knees by the leg pass/funk roll. I do however show my kids that as a counter to the low single where traditional sprawl will not work as your heel is trapped.
  14. http://matbossapp.hs-sites.com/blog/analyzing-classed-state-tournaments-vs.-single-class-state-tournaments
  15. http://www.nebraskausawrestling.org/page/show/967943-middle-school-national-duals-danville-il I hope Indiana has a similar process as Nebraska for National Teams Is there a separate qualifier for Danville since there is already a qualifier for Heartland? Opps never mind. I found it.
  16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzZz6LG9Pyg Talk about murderer's row..... What a 1-2-3 punch. 2003 Indiana High School Wrestling Championships (These three start at approx. 1:06:30 mark) 125lbs: Angel Escobedo (61-0) Griffith (10) def. Matt Jaggers (56-1) New Castle (12), decision 16-8. 130lbs: Andrae Hernandez (61-0) Griffith (11) def. Matt Coughlin (41-1) Evansville Mater Dei (10), decision 11-4. 135lbs: Alex Tsirtsis (62-0) Griffith (11) def. Justin Edwards (40-3) Bloomington South (12), decision 15-5.
  17. The feet to back takedowns for the fall are pretty impressive. Thought I would share .... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take a look back at some of the top pins of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in the past 40 years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-aLaVDSP6E
  18. Thanks for the above information. It helps me better understand the situation. There is no clear cut solution and the ISWA is doing their best for the kids. Since I can't offer any suggestions, I will make sure not to complain again about the current set up. It clearly takes a lot of work and time by volunteers behind the scenes to help elevate the level of Indiana wrestling. I appreciate their efforts in the sport that is teaching our kids about life.
  19. Sorry I should off been more specific. For instance the Heartland Elementary Duals Indiana team just had their wrestle off tournamnet last weekend. Since it is 6 grade and below, usually it is loaded up with sixth graders and you just take the top 2 wrestlers for a team and b team. It is not far away for Indy area kids but other areas of the state has to make special extra trip for this wrestle off tournament. Why not use ISWA folkstyle state for placement based selection process, it is the following weekend.
  20. First I would like to state the ISWA is doing a lot of great things and has great leadership. I happened to agree completely with the qualification process for Freestyle/Greco State. Even if you dislike freestyle/Greco, your wrestler needs to know when a throw is coming (to defend) even if he or she never offensively attempts a throw. (see over under throws countered beautifully with a Metzger) Anyways back to question. Why does the older kids like Cadet/Juniors earn a spot based on result in Freestyle State and Greco State for Indiana traveling teams to Fargo and other places and the Schoolboy/Novice age kids have a wrestle off type tournament with no coaches allowed? I am pretty old but when I was on the traveling team back in the ancient days, we qualified by placement at ISWA state. Our Indiana youth traveling team included Lance Ellis, who should be on the short list of best thrower ever from Indiana. The kids in his weight class at out of state tournaments had no idea about our throwing machine thanks to the lack of the interwebs.
  21. I have casually observed two schools of thoughts. I may be completely wrong, happens a lot. First school is that why cut more than a couple pounds, stay close to your wrestling weight or build up, usually expressed by dads that have wrestled. Mainly because they remember how awful the experience of a big cut was for them. Second school, if their wrestler goes down a full weight class, they will be "strong" for their new lighter weight class with "smaller kids". Where do you weigh in on this? Yes awful pun.
