  1. Real fast count on the near fall points.
  2. Maybe we should talk about having wrestle backs before you try to put true second in.
  3. I saw a lot of quick pins this weekend. And Lee looked pinned to me on the big screen. But I guess all of the Mater Dei fans that were booing must have really good eye sight to see that Lee wasn't pinned.
  4. You could be the best wrestler in your classes weight class. That would be a good thing.
  5. I think 16 is the norm, but these states have class wrestling. I know Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa all qualify 16 per weight. 16 is a little easier number to work with than 24. The problem with 24 is that some 8 people will get a bye in the first round. I dont have a problem with that, but you know somebody would.
  6. I heard they use to do that in Indiana. Didnt they use to have a single elimination tournament. Not a good idea of course.
  7. I would be for expanding criteria to head to head, but was trying to keep things simple. Common opponent is kind of grey. I think seeding based on national ranking or state ranking would never fly with coaches. Freshman would be out of luck in the ranking unless you had a head to head scneario.
  8. That was my funny sacrastic response to mock all the traditionalists. I really think its not a bad compromise to the class wrestling question.
  9. I think this was touched last year. But could we copy Ohio's method of seeding each district which would be semi-state equivalent in Indiana Based on pre-determined criteria. The seeding is solely based on the winner of each semi-state. Criteria would be simply the highest ranking state placer gets the highest seed. The 1, 2, 3, 4 wrestlers would stay the same like now and wrestle the 4,3, 2,1 but would just follow the seed. For example, Lets use 152 as example. Forte gets #1 Seed. Based on only returning state Champ. Kemper gets the #2 seed as a 2x state qualifier. Van Camp gets the #3 seed as a 1x state qualifier. Berkebiele gets the #4 seed with no state experience. And as a result, all of the other wrestlers from the Merrillville bracket wrestle the Fort Wayne wrestlers. And the New Castle group gets the Evansville group. If we use this method, then you dont have bracket conspiracies/fiascos like this year, and you also are more likely to get the best 2 wrestlers in the state final. Also could seed semi-state in the same manner.
  10. Place 6. Yea, then we would have to give out 5th and 6th place ribbons to 112 more wrestlers even though they didnt earn it, and also have the false satisfaction of achieving something even though they didnt earn it. These guys bedrooms would look like Gaylord Faulker's bedroom, with their sixth place ribbons and participation certificates. This would be another brick in the sissification wall of America.
  11. I guess they do start with 4 mats. But they could fit 6 easily.
  12. Doesn't Bankers life start with 6 mats anyway in the first round.
  13. Alright spectator, just trying to be a little funny. So the interesting comparison is from a common opponent, (one degree), different season (two degrees), different weight class (three degrees). You're right, your comparison is a transitive property of three degrees, not four.
  14. Fabio was the greatest, and with Brownsburg Purple Colored glasses he's probably the best coach P4P in the state.
  15. Right on Malgned. I beat a good friend of mine in tennis once, and my friend played college tennis and he beat a guy on his team once who beat a tennis pro before a tennis pro in a Junior match (Bryan Black) who has a career win over Andre Agassi. So Im only 4 degrees aways from being the best tennis player in the world at one point in time using the associative property of math. Of course my logic is totally ridiculous and only using matches from two years ago when guys bump up weight classes is just as ridiculous of a predictor for a match.
  16. Thats a good point. People take for granted the current dual state format. My home state (Kansas), has never had a dual state championship and even though their is interest, they cant get any collaboration between the state high school association and coaches. For my two cents, the current format is much better than the old format and is totally irrelevant that its not supported by IHSAA.
  17. So why cant you be the best in your weight class when you have two classes?
  18. Good stuff. Im going to pull some of these stats this weekend to look smart.
  19. Nothing wrong with a dual champion and a tournament champion. Indiana gets that right.
  20. I think the Pro class wrestling argument won. But Im throwing in the towel.
  21. Check out Gage Garpow of Winamac at 182. He's wrestling tough and I think mess brackets up this weekend.
  22. Two Stiebers brothers, Cam Tessari antoher NCAA all- American and Phillips who was ranked #1 in the country at one point as a freshman. I used to live by Monroeville and it wasn't known for wrestling. But lightning struck 4 times there and they had four studs that could of one the Indiana state title. All of them one four state titles, but I think wrestling participation did increase while they where their. They all went to a good club, and I think they were partially a product of open enrollment. The two other kids moved from a nearby town to wrestle with the Steibers.
  23. Heres the Scholars handicapped odds of the Team Race: Penn: 2-1 ( This is their race to lose. They got the horses in place, but have to execute. Last year they lost it in first round and cant afford to do again. They realistically could have 5 guys in the finals. (113, 152 -I like Swanks draw, 170, 182, 220) and Christman at HWY will place and has some potential upset points. Cathedral 5-2 - They could beat Penn, but would have to run the table and maybe get some help. I see 3 in the finals with 2 champs. Probably have 5 placers. Im expecting some drama in close team race, but I think Penn has a little more cushion. Yorktown 8-1: They have the most wrestlers and I think will have the most wrestlers place, but most will be down around 6-8. Should have one in the finals at 145. Im saying 3rd at 170. They will have to pull some big upsets to catch up with Cathethedral and Penn. Im not saying they cant do it. Mater Dei: 10-1 They got the Lee's and I have them both in finals and at least one champ. They probably place low at 145. But the rest of their draws are tough and I dont see enough points to catch up with Penn and Cathedral. Perry Meridian: 20-1- They didnt get enough guys through, James, UK and Tonte will do some damage, but enough to win. Merillville 20-1- I can see Covaciu and Streck in finals. Mabye even Johnson and Delapena place but not enough to win like Perry. Portage: 22-1 : I see two guys in the finals at 126 adn 145, but thats pretty much it. These guys are a year away from competing for the title. Warren Central 22-1: I could see 5 guys place, but not higher than 7th. Upset potential is there, but they would have to stand on their heads to win. Dark Horse: Crown Point- they have 5 sold guys that can place. If they can pull a few upsets together and run the table, they could really surprise some people. Their a long shot, but you never know.
  24. So what do you mean are system is being supported by outlier examples. These outliers are far and way between. In my humble opinion, the current system is supported by a monopoly of the big schools. Thats whats really whats relevant. How many outliers where there last year Karl. How many 1A kids placed last year. So you every 3-4 years, we get a 1A kid to the finals and everybody chants Rudy and Milan (Ironically the two famous underdog movies take place in Indiana). Look at this way, we had more 1A schools drop wrestling last year than 1A kids that placed. Also I have no idea of what you mean best of the worst? We'll have those 1A kids place and everyobdy will feel good and say thats whats good about Indiana. I guess you're an idealist and im a realist.
