  1. That's a good explanation. This makes sense the way you explained the way the IHSAA thinking doesn't make sense. Its over something silly like not scoring pigtails which is just one extremely small fraction of the state tournament. I personally think its a mistake to not score the pigtails, but that's another non-essential argument.
  2. Technically we don't have wrestle backs at the state tournament. If you lose in the quarters, you can wrestle for fifth, but you can't cross bracket back to 3rd place like a true wrestle back. Conversely, If you make semis, the worst you can do is 4th. Just another instance were we don't get true placement in Indiana. Also note, we did have additional placement like you requested in 2013. They wrestled out to 5th place at Semi state and regional. They didn't wrestle for 7th and 8th like state. It only created three extra matches per bracket. The 4 wrestlers that lost in quarterfinals (2nd round) wrestled. And the winners of those two matches wrestled for 5th place, just like state. I believe the main purpose was to get a true 5th place so we could get a true alternate. I dont think they even added the points to the team score. For some reason this was not popular and was eliminated the next year. Im not sure why it was cut, and if it was the coaches who decided or if was dictated by the former basketball coaches on the IHSAA executive board. They probably thought it was too similar to wrestle backs and we cant have that. Here's the other bogus/crazy thing Indiana does at the state tournament. Pay attention to the 1st round scoring Friday night. The state tournament does not score advancement points or bonus points in the first round. Scoring only starts in the second round. Serious, its true. Its like the 1st round is some preliminary round that doesn't count. So if you get a get a pin or major, you dont score the the two extra points or get the .5 points for the major. Nobody ever has given me a good explanation of why they do this. Why?? somebody on the board try to explain this, please.
  3. At 145 Poindexter over Currie 4 vs1. But #4 is ranked 3rd and1 is ranked 20.
  4. We love you General. You still got one more week of state championship posts and input. Don't call it quits early.
  5. Hoosier Sportsbook just moved odds -300 form -150 favoring FCFighter after reading post.
  6. Maybe @DrunkJoe Namath and @GenHeavyHands were a wrestling tag team. He had promotional picks of Gen HeavyHands (international fashion Influencer)
  7. Maybe they let Joe and Mike do the announcing. Instead of paying them, they let Indianamat advertise on the show. IHSAA has advertisers. Maybe add a Gorilla mascot commercial (sorry that was another post). Something like some nice little legal Quid Pro Quo.
  8. States with wrestle Backs at State Tournament AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MA,MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM,NY, NC, ND OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VE, VA, WA,WV, WI, WY States without wrestle Backs Indiana, Mississippi* Mississippi does not have state tournament.
  9. So you're saying one of the reasons we don't have wrestlebacks and we shorten the time our best wrestlers have on the mat at state is because the IHSAA wants the spectators to spend more time at breakfast at Steak and Shake and to spend more time for the afternoon break at Dicks Last Resort and PF Changs?
  10. How does Y2 obtain so much detailed data like this?
  11. Joe, I also mentioned to Julio in guest relations at Bankers life about the Gorilla throwing t-shirts and he said he thought it was another great idea. Panther the Pacer is best friends with the Phoenix suns Gorrilla and sometimes subs for him. They were the same size mascot uniform. And surprisingly he is available Friday night for just a small fee plus transportation costs. Just need a big Indianamat T-shirt but we got to provide the ring of fire for the fire dunking stunt also.
  12. Joe, Here's the update. I talked to Julio in Guest Relations at Bankers Life, and he thought the Taco idea was a great idea. They didn't go for the taco launcher as was just not safe enough, but they said we could take the Taco Bell Taco Blimp and take off the Taco Bell advertising and put the Wrestling Scholar advertisement on it. He said it can drop little parachutes with tacos in them. So be on the lookout Friday night for the newest upgrade to the State tournament, flying tacos. He asked what wrestling scholar was and I told him we sell college text books, and Julio went for it. The scholar has a lot bananas to pay for this, so no problem there.
  13. That brings a really good point. Assuming estimates are correct, multiply that by 4 semi states. That's $60K IHSAA loses, but offset by some minimal partial expenses like additional referee pay. The said point is like at the state wrestling tournament, say the IHSAA had an additional session on Friday afternoon so wrestle backs get in. Say its $5 per person they could charge more multiply by 20,000 (rough estimate of attendance). That's $100K IHSAA is leaving on the table. Does the IHSAA get a percentage of concessions, that might be more money on the table.
  14. I just watched that also. There was no communication between the SW coaching staff and they officials in the full recovery time period situation that took over two minutes and i'm surprised. Considering the official gave the incorrect injury time out signal and not the recovery signal and that this is somewhat of an obscure rule, I think it would have prudent for the officials to say something to the Southern Wells staff and to keep them updated on the recovery timer. They thought they had won the match on injury default. The official did make the correct call.
  15. Just some points on your thought. 1. Under NFHSA rules, for a coach to ask a referee to watch a video would be considered flagrant misconduct and the coach would have to be removed from the facility. So good thing the Southern Wells coach didn't request video. 2. In a recovery or a injury timeout situation, referees do not want to end the match, and Im sure they gave the full extent of time allowed the full two minutes and probably a few extra seconds. And at the end of the two minutes, they would have asked the injured wrestler and coach if he can continue or not? I guarantee the refs did this and explained the situation that the SW wrestler would be disqualified. Again, the refs cant make a subjective opinion if the wrestler is healthy to go or not. 3. It may be possible the referees didn't explain this to Southern Wells coaches, which I would be very surprised. But again the Southern Wells coaches should have been aware of this rule and that their wrestler was in Jeopardy of being disqualified. Where they not aware of the rule?
  16. You could wrestle one round on Friday night at SS and State tournament. Basically you should make a two day tournament.
  17. That's a good idea. That idea might have a slight chance to be viewed favorably in the wrestling community. This sounds like this would have to be a NFHS rule change. Could Indiana do on its own? Has this idea ever been voted on? I can recall a few times this happening. I remember a good kid from Portage that lost on a slam in the ticket round at Merillville about 8 years ago. Happened around 10 years ago in a semi-finals match at state where a Cathedral kid ended up wrestling in the state finals after getting hurt. That one was controversial.
  18. This could be easily done without adding an extra week. Indiana also has the longest state tournament in the country. I don't think we need to make longer.
  19. That's true. Even though the shell might be cracked. People are going to be wrestling over them tacos.
  20. True, people love tacos, including the Scholar. The problem is the Scholar already has a lot of unpaid taco debt already. But im sending the idea to my engineering department on how to make a taco launcher. Even though a great idea, tacos can be messy and Im visualizing the flying tacos landing in the stands creating an explosion of beef, shredded cheese, taco sauce and taco shells. I could see this landing on a Perry Meridian Fan with a clean brand new powder blue T Shirt and being upset with a taco stain. What if it a guy the guy ruined a Merrillville Purple sweat shirt. The scholar would be in trouble. I think a low probability I could get the written consent of the Bankers Life Security department or the consent of the Marion County food board. But the idea of a Gorilla in a singlet like the coach on Vision Quest had on with the Indianamat logo it is genius. You're marketing should be thanking Luv2Compete and the Scholar. I say you go all out and get the Gorilla that does flips and dunks basketballs. You could make t-shirts with your advertisers on it and really market the heck out of this. You're welcome Joe.
  21. Note in a recovery time situation like this, the wrestler has 2 minutes to recover which is different than the minute and a half of injury time. Im sure the refs told the Oak HIl's coaches that this was recovery time as you could see there was a discussion on the video. Just a mechanical mistake, but the ref signaled with his hand signal to start injury time and should have used the recovery time signal for Oak Hill. But this small mistake was easily to clarify or correct with the bench and coaches that this was indeed recovery time and was called correctly on a wrestler getting injured on a false start. This is an obscure rule and doesn't happen much, but was very relevant in this case. On the hand signal to start the match, the false start would be called if the wrestler moved prior to the whistle. I hear a whistle but wasn't sure from this ref or other mat. Looking at the video, it kind of looks like ref didn't blow his whistle. If the ref didn't blow the whistle, then its a good call. Not sure.
  22. Yea, we could use the Indianamat Gorilla throwing T-shirts. That's the best idea I've heard all day. Joe has to even has to like this idea. Great advertising opportunity. And some of these shirts can be Indianamat T-shirts. If Joe, doesn't have the Gorilla suit, time to invest in one. This seriously is a good idea.
  23. not a bad idea. Maybe we need a mascot to do it. Maybe some of the good teams could send a mascot, or we could make a wrestling one like the olympics.
