  1. Verkleeren - Amine match was exciting as hell w/ lots of back and forth and some great scrambles. Amine comes out on top 7-5. Michigan 11 -3 after 4 matches. Nolf up next
  2. Nice win for Nick, 10-4 w/ riding time. Couldn't get a TD in the 2nd period when Storr scrambled out of bounds and again late after letting him up to go for the major. 3 of Storr's 4 pts were on escapes Lee gave him. The 4th was a legit escape. 8-3 Michigan after 3
  3. That was a crazy scramble by Lee after Storr had a grip on the ankle pick. Impressive
  4. No surprise Michigan takes the first two matches. @125 Drew Mattin wins 6-0 over Devin Schnupp (minor victory for PSU avoiding bonus points @133 Stevan Micic handles a game Scott Stossel with 20-5 TF. Early in the 1st period, Stossel got in on Micic's leg and had it shelved above his shoulder but Micic battled out of it and eventually got the takedown. 8-0 Michigan after 2 bouts.
  5. No Roman Bravo-Young (as expected) and no Brady Berge for Penn State. Jared Verkleeren will face Malik Amine. On the Michigan side, Jelani Embree is listed with Correll at 184. Kicking off at 125
  6. Can't speak about Comcast. I thought it was included anywhere within the Big Ten footprint. Guess that's another reason to have Directv! But it is not on BTN+, which requires a separate subscription even with BTN.
  7. This is true.... but 2 falls and a TF in freestyle along with Ross' resume, wins over Christian Polen (loss for Sutton), a win at the MD Holiday Classic where Matthew Moore of UC didn't place (loss for Sutton), as well as two really quick pins over Khaliq Boyd vs. 8-4 and 10-2 wins for Sutton give me enough to go on.... Both Overton and Kane Egli lost to Sam Bacon of Union County this year. Overton by fall, Egli lost 7-4. Jordan Fulks has beaten Kane Egli a few times in Freestyle, but don't see any evidence he'll hang with Nick Lee. Fulks DNP at Folkstyle State last year at 138, while Lee at 145 took 1st and beat Alex Mosconi, Mason Miranda and Alec Viduya in 3 straight matches. Still waiting for anyone from Boonville, rather than offering weak criticisms, to provide info that might give one a different opinion on how the matches will go. I haven't found anything to alter that. Best of luck to the Boonville wrestlers tomorrow and next weekend at SS
  8. There is a nice appetizer for wrestling fans tonight to prepare you for tomorrow's Regionals. On the Big Ten Network (free) Michigan wrestles at Penn State tonight at 7:00 ET. The matchup with feature 3 of Indiana's best studs in recent years: - Stevan Micic going at 133 for Michigan. Micic is ranked #1 in the country coming off his National Runner-Up finish last year. Stevan is 9-0 on the year after nursing an early season injury. - Nick Lee will go at 141 for Penn State. Lee is ranked #7 in the country and will face #5 Kanen Storr. Lee is 19-1 on the year while Storr is 17-3. - Mason Parris will go at 285 for Michigan. Parris is ranked #7 and 23-3 and will face Anthony Cassar who is ranked #3 and 16-1. Big matchups for both Lee and Parris. Micic will likely get a Penn State backup after Roman Bravo-Young tweaked his knee last weekend at Purdue. Check it out and head over to the College Board for updates on this match and updates on many other former IN HS wrestlers.
  9. Of course anything can happen. But that doesn't nor shouldn't keep one from making predictions. If any of the Boonville guys pull a big upset this weekend, you'll see a bunch of people applauding their effort and accomplishment. But to say they aren't big underdogs without any reasoning to back it up is pretty weak. I have looked as some common opponents and 3 head to head matches between Ross - Sutton and they don't work well for your argument.
  10. Or we wait to see how the head to head results pan out..... In the mean time, you are more than welcome to offer a few examples....
  11. Here is an example from the past to years at Evansville SS.... 2018 106-126 - Castle (EV) vs. Bloomington South (BS) & Mooresville (MO) vs. Jeffersonville (JF) 132-160 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF 170-220 - EV vs, JF & BS vs. MO 285 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF 2017 - a bit more random 106 - 113 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF 120 - 126 - EV vs BS & MO vs. JF 132 - EV vs. JF & BS vs. MO 138 - 145 - EV vs. BS & MO vs. JF 152 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF 160 - EV vs. JF & BS vs. MO 170 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF 182 - EV vs. JF & BS vs. MO 195 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF 220 - EV vs. JF & BS vs. MO 285 - EV vs. MO & BS vs. JF
  12. To clarify, The drawing is not the same for all weights. By that I mean, it is not New Castle paired with Ft. Wayne across the board in all 14 weights? If I recall correctly, each weight is different. I'm not sure exactly how that is determined, whether it is a separate draw for each weight class or if one class is drawn and a rotation follows.
  13. Looks like @149 Kris Rumph knocked off DIII #2 ranked Alex Wilson by 6-4 dec and @197 Kobe Woods fell 3-2 to #4 ranked Lance Benick. Did I miss anyone else?
  14. The problem with today's society and especially message boards is that people want to equate "hating" or "not liking" or "against" with any criticism or opinion at all. In general people's panties get wadded up way too quickly. No one is hating or disliking Boonville. They are just speaking a combination of the truth (level of competition) and opinion (certain matches won't be close). It has nothing to do with one's preference of Boonville. Now is the time, rather than whine on a message board, to step up and prove people wrong. The 3 wrestlers mentioned all have great records and I don't doubt they are good wrestlers. I just don't see them competing with Ross, Egli and Lee. Could they finish 2nd? Sure. Will they all qualify for SS? Probably. Are they good enough to take the next step and qualify for State? Can they pull an upset this weekend? We shall see. But take comments for what they are.... opinions that aren't personal
  15. Saw Matt Lee entered the Intermat rankings at #15 at 145. Rankings dated this week. Not sure if he sneaked in last week or not.
  16. Thanks for the reply and the info. I think Boyd has a tall task. I'm not sure how the new weight class will help him. Is he closer to his walking around weight and the cut was too tough at 160? If so, this may be a good thing. Unfortunately Harrison is one of the Evansville schools that seems allergic to using Track Wrestling so it is tough to get much info on what he did at 145. I don't know enough about him or Dalton Schmidt to know how good his chances are in the first round. If he gets by Schmidt, he seems destined for 4th place. The good news is he may not have to face Rob Deters again, as a semifinal match against Sollars would be tough. In the 3rd/4th place match, Singleton or Deters are both very good. If he can get to 4th place, the experience he gets going to semistate the following weekend will be huge for him going forward as he is only a sophomore. Not sure if he plays other sports, but the off-season has the potential to really help him improve going into next year. Garrett lost to Aidian Rea last week (TB1) and to Jacob Hirsch (fall) and Matthew Woodruff (SV) at the SIAC. Hunter Wimpleberg, his first round match, beat both Hirsch and Woodruff at the SIAC and has more experience. Anything can happen at HWT, but he's got an uphill battle ahead. He's a junior so the offseason could also provide a big boost for next year as it appears he has limited experience. Harrison has struggled badly in recent years. It would be nice for some of their guys to experience some success, put the time in during the offseason and come back and help build something better.
  17. I'm guessing since this is your first post, you know something about these two or are affiliated with Harrison in some way. Please tell us what do you think? What can you tell us about the two wrestlers? How did they fare in duals against Mater Dei, Memorial, Union Co., etc.? Why is Garrett only 6-3 on the year? He's 4-3 in the past two weekends. Who and when were his other two wins?
  18. I think those that mentioned Lee beating Micic was a possible scenario, and not that people thought it would happen. Meaning risky for UM and that strategy. Maybe I misinterpreted what I read. Personally, the way Stevan is wrestling right now. I think he'd beat Nick about as badly as he did in 2014. But I don't think it is a given. And to answer your question, there is no realistic answer. For example the quality of the #10 wrestler is likely to vary greatly in each weight class, so what might make sense for 133 wouldn't make sense at all for 174. Also, the quality of the #1 wrestler in each class is not the same. The match ups I'd like to see are Micic vs. Yianni and Micic vs. McKenna.
  19. Not much drama here... only a handful of match ups that could affect the top spot. No disrespect to the kids competing for placement, but from an outside (not directly involved with a team/wrestler) perspective it's a relative yawner. Hence the lack of discussion.
  20. Here are all the losses by #1 guys.... 113 - Jacob Moran - Brecksville Holiday - Jacob Decatur (3-2) - OH - Nationally ranked #9 (Flo), #16 (Intermat) 132 - Asa Garcia - Brecksville Holiday - Mick Burnett (3-2) - OH - Nationally ranked #15 (Flo & Intermat) 138 - Cayden Rooks - 12/8 Dual vs. Perry Meridian - Aiden Warren (3-1) - IN - Wrestled up at 145 lbs 152 - Eli Dickens - Grappler Gold - James Whitaker (3-2) - MI - Nationally ranked #8 (Flo), #9 (Intermat) 152 - Eli Dickens - Grappler Gold - Caleb Fish- (6-4) MI - (2018 State Runner Up - 1-1 vs. James Whitaker above this year 160 - Donnell Washington - Team State Dual vs. Columbus East - Nick South (10-5)- IN - Wrestled up at 170 lbs All others are undefeated
  21. He's from Ohio and previously went to school at Culver Military. Chose to go to a school in Ohio this year, Western Reserve Academy. Ohio doesn't use Track Wrestling as much so the only result I can find for him is at the Iron Man in December. He was the 8-seed and did not place.
  22. You mean Kane Egli vs. Overton or Ross vs. Sutton?
  23. Don't think any of those four will be very close
