  1. @ Castle 138 - Ashton Hayhurst (State #7) WBF over Keegan Williams (State #9) 220 - Kelton Farmer (State #7) beat Zac Inzerello (State #11) 7-4, TB-1 @ Evansville Central 120 - Reed Egli (State #12) won by 6-2 dec over Blake Zirkelbach (State #14) 132 - Ayden Amento (State #16) over Odin Fortune (State #14) 5-4. Amento won for the 2nd straight week. 152 - Hunter May (State #5) 10-0 Major over Luke Robards (State #11). May won for the 2nd straight week 195 - Gabe Sollars (State #1) WBF over Wyatt Willman (State #4) - Willman dropped down from 220
  2. @ Evansville Central - Mt. Vernon's Chris Newman (State #9) beat Ev. Central's Luke Kemper (State #6) 8-4
  3. Penn State @ Iowa 125 - Former State Champ from Penn HS, Drew Hildebrandt starts off the dual with a 9-0 Major over Jesse Ybarra. Hildebrandt got a 4 pt NF as time expired in the 3rd to give him the major. Nice win for Drew! 133 - RBY gets a tough 3-2 win over DeSanto. AD was the aggressor the whole match and took shot after shot, but RBY stuffed them all. RBY did give up a stalling point, as he didn't even try to score until the middle of the 2nd period. 141 - Nick Lee wins another classic against Jaydin Eierman! Lee had a 4-2 lead with 1:11 in riding time and gave up a take down with :12 left to erase riding time and take the match to sudden victory. Eierman was sucking wind as they began SV. He took a shot quickly and Nick stuffed it with heavy hips, pushed down on the head and spun behind for a take down and the win, quieting 15k fans in Carver-Hawkeye. Note: Lee's 1st take down after Eierman hit a throw straight to the back, but Nick rolled thru for no score. Eierman then tried to roll Nick with a chest wrap and Lee fought it off, spun through and got the takedown. JE threw everything he had, but Nick had answers. PSU 10-0 at this point. 149 - Iowa bounces back as Max Murin gets a 4-1 decision over Beau Bartlett. 157 - Kaleb Young for Iowa wins as expected. PSU's Terrell Barraclough held him to a 2-0 decision, which basically equates to a win for the Nittany Lions. 165 - Alex Marinelli was dominant with a 10-2 Major over Brady Berge. Marinelli pushed him around the whole match and Berge was completely gassed at the end. 10-10 after 6 matches 174 - Lots of intense, close matches! Carter Starocci pulls out a 2-1 TB-1 win over Michael Kemerer. Both were close to takedowns along the way, but Starocci outlasted him, 184 - A solid, controlling 8-3 win for Aaron Brooks over Abe Assad 197 - Another battle! Max Dean gets another crazy win. Down 3-0 in the 3rd, Dean escapes and gets a takedown to tie it up. Then works the bow and arrow in the last :30 to get 4 NF points as time clicked away. Add a riding time point and Dean has an 8-3 decision over Jacob Warner. 19-10 PSU and the Dual is locked up. 285 - Tony Cassioppi wins 7-2 over Greg Kerkvliet. Kerk tried to throw him twice and it didn't work either time. PSU wins 19-13
  4. Michigan starts out quick with wins at 125 and 133. Nick Suriano took it to Patrick McKee and gets a 14-6 Major. Dylan Ragusin gets a late takedown to beat Jake Gilva 6-5. Stevan Micic back in the lineup this week after sitting out last weekend, but doesn't look good. He drops a 5-2 decision to Jakob Bergeland, with 2+ minutes of riding time, dominated on top. He got the legs in and had Stevan really stretched out after an early takedown. He then fought off a few good attacks from Micic that looked like sure takedowns. 149 - Minnesota gets a MD from Michael Blockhaus over Pat Nolan 157 - Brayton Lee earns a tough 5-4 decision over Will Lewan. Minny leads 10-7 at Intermission. 165 - Cam Amine gets a 6-1 decision over Cael Carlson 174 - Logan Massa wins 7-4 over Baba, er Bailee O'Reilly in a match that was a little chippy. Massa penalized a point for taunting. It was as they were positioning for a restart so something that was said. Couldn't see anything specific on TV. 184 - Myles Amine with a solid 12-4 MD over Sam Skillings. Note: this isn't meant to be deragatory against Myles Amine and his Bronze medal Olympic run, but I find if weird every time they say that. While it's true, if he wrestled for the USA he'd have been the 4th best wrestler at Penn State (David Taylor, Bo Nickal, Aaron Brooks) alone and likely the 5th best US wrestler (Zahid Valencia). He still had to beat International wrestlers and earn bronze, but wrestling for San Marino certainly helped. 197 - Patrick Brucki gets the job done with an 8-2 win to seal the Dual win for Michigan. 285 - Mason Parris vs. Gable Steveson - Gable dominates Mason once again. As good of an athlete as Mason is, Gable makes him look slow. This match wasn't close and Steveson let him know it. Final 18-8 GS. Michigan takes the dual 20-14
  5. Great action on BTN and Wisky @Maryland on BTN+ #1 vs. #2 - Penn State @ Iowa in Carver-Hawkeye Arena - Start time 9:15pm Eastern - Who ya got? Lots of highly ranked matchups here, including our own Nick Lee vs. Jayden Eierman, a repeat of last year's National Championship! Minnesota @ Michigan up first - 3 former Hoosier High School grapplers going in this one - Micic, B. Lee, Parris. Will Gable Steveson step on the mat for another showdown with Mason? How will Parris bounce back after last weekends loss to Greg Kerkvliet?
  6. I'll be shocked if it doesn't.... but what do i know?
  7. Evansville Central Sectional 120 lbs has: 1. Reed Egli, Mater Dei 2. Gabe Zirklebach, North Posey 3. Jared Dunn, Princeton The bracket shows Dunn at 28-1, yet the Auto Seeds shows he has losses to Zirklebach and Zack Bulkley, so not sure if his record is correct. Or what his level of competition has been. Also, without commentary/knowledge on specific wrestlers, the 106 bracket has 6 wrestlers and the worst record of the six is North Posey's Kaleb Baehl at 20-10. I don't see those kind of records in other brackets. Just an observation.
  8. What happened to Gunnar Henry from Brownsburg? I was looking forward to seeing him battle Purdy and Sollars!
  9. Thanks, I've had my DVR set to record this, but haven't seen an updated episode beyond the first. Looking forward to seeing the full piece.
  10. Not a good situation. Glad all are okay. I'm sure he'll have some serious bumps and bruises, but apparently no broken bones.
  11. More results from the weekend of Jan 22-23... Nebraska 23 Northwestern 12 Chad Red got a 4-2 decision over Frankie Tal Shahar at 141 Andrew Davison lost by TF, 23-8 to Eric Schultz at 197 Lucas Davison won 8-3 over Christian Lance at 285 Misc Duals Mason Parris bounced back with a 10-3 win over Boone McDermott of Rutgers at 285 Drew Hildebrandt won 8-0 major over Tristan Lujan of Michigan St at 125 Nick Lee added a 13-1 major over Matt Santos against MSU at 141 Giovanni Diaz got 2 wins in duals for Franklin & Marshall over Army. He's 7-8 on the year at 125 Wisconsin 23 Purdue 12 Alec White dropped a 14-5 major dec to Austin Gomez at 149 Hayden Lohrey lost by TF, 17-1 to Dean Hamiti at 165 Thomas Penola got a nice 8-3 dec win over Braxton Amos at 197 Ohio U Duals Jordan Slivka went 1-1, getting an 8-0 major against Davidson and losing a 5-4 decision to Andrew Cerniglia of Navy. Slivka was ranked #23 going into this weekend by Flo at 157 Carson Brewer also split 2 matches, winning 11-1 against Davidson and dropping a 7-0 decision against Navy, both matches at 197 UIndy vs. Drury Dual Breyden Bailey won 6-4 at 133 Ray Rioux lost 1-0 at 141 Brayden Lowrey won by Fall at 149 Dawson Combest won 4-2 at 157 Nathan Conley lost 15-4 at 165 Gleason Mappes won 10-2 at 184 Derek Blubaugh won by TF 17-0 at 197 Any others??
  12. The times I have seen Mason look ordinary (and there have been very few!) that's happened. Gable and now Kerk were able to keep him from initiating attacks and getting in on a leg and finishing. Look forward to seeing how he adjusts.
  13. Was this event not on Track? I can't find it
  14. Indiana beat Maryland tonight 26-12. IU got wins from Hoosier natives: Jacob Moran (TF) Cayden Rooks (Fall) Graham Rooks Jonathan Kervin Kasper McIntosh Nick Willham Wins were by decision unless noted. Nick South and Donnell Washington suffered decision losses. Note, Brock Hudkins did not wrestle at 133. Purdue knocked off Illinois 25-13. Hoosier wins came from: Hayden Lohrey Thomas Penola (TF) Cooper Noehre get a win by major decision in an Extra Match. Other results from former Hoosier HS wrestlers Chad Red got an 8-3 decision win over Joesph Zargo of Wisconsin as the Cornhuskers beat Wisconsin 22-12 Drew Hildebrandt dropped a 2-1 decision to Nick Suriano Nick Lee won by TF, 21-6 over Drew Mattin Mason Parris lost a 7-5 decision to Greg Kerkvliet Stevan Micic did not wrestle Penn State won the dual against Michigan 29-6.
  15. That was a fun dual to watch, even though Penn St. dominated. The final was 29-6. Lots of tight matches. The big surprise to me, and not to some others was Greg Kerkvliet beat Mason Parris 7-5. Kerkvliet was able to get to Mason's left leg several times on a sweep single. He was able to finish 3x and that was enough. The biggest disappointment was Stevan Micic sat this one out so we did not get to see him matchup with Nick Lee. Lee won by TF, 21-6 over Drew Mattin at 141.
  16. No reason to apologize at all. It's good to get a perspective from the inside. Those of us from the outside don't get to see the details of what happens daily and its easy to pass blame. Personally, aside from occasional speculation, I prefer to speak less in absolutes and not place blame. Sometimes those really close can't see the big picture and those of us on the outside don't see things the same. But I do think it's great getting perspectives from both sides. Allow me to add, and I hope I can speak for everyone here, that all wrestlers at the D1 level are good, very good. When good vs. bad is discussed on a message board that generally means Elite vs. Great vs. Very Good. I think it's important for family members to hear that because seeing anything said about their son or teammates may not be interpreted that way. Mostly because it's not said in that manner. Yet we all know these guys are very good. We just want them to be better for many reasons, mostly our own selfish ones. As far as Nick goes, I really hope he finds the spot that will allow him to be his best. After not seeing him wrestle recently, before the MSU match, I wondered what his status was. I know athletes go through a lot and college provides distractions too. Man, I know in college, many times I was worried more about going out at night than a doubleheader on tap the next day. Wrestling is why we're all here. But regardless of how any of these guys do on the mat, the most important thing is them growing into responsible young men. Feel free to stop by anytime to share the good, the bad or the ugly. Your input is appreciated.
  17. I like Fanco, but can only handle Josiah in small doses for some reason. Have not watched his preview for this match yet, but it's in my You Tube feed waiting. But I think it's good there is wrestling content from others than the big sites (Flo, Rokfin, etc). Baschamania is also a good podcast if you haven't tried it. I pick and choose episodes based on his guests.
  18. I'd give Parris an 81-19 advantage. All that has been said is true. Kerk wasn't expected to be in the lineup last year and came back in short time, so its fair to say he wasn't at full strength. And yes, Kerk won 4-4 on criteria, but Parris wrestled back for 3rd finishing higher than Kerk. So I get the hope for Penn State fans. But until proven otherwise, I don't see another 285 wrestler in college beating Mason. Another not named Gable Steveson that is. As for the dual, I think 149-165 will determine the winner. I think Starocci handles Massa. Brooks/Amine will be worth the price of admission, but Brooks has looked even better this year, so my money goes with him. The question is, will Cam Amine wrestle? How will Brady Berge's comeback continue? Can Hildebrandt hold down Suriano and not get majored (or worse)? How healthy is Nick Lee? He's missed 2 duals, a full week apart. The first, they said he was "under the weather", the second he was "in protocols", so not sure on details. Has he been sick? Could not being able to train for a bit be enough to keep him from his best? Looks like it should be a fun dual and Iowa at Ohio State follows on ESPN to boot. Looking forward to it all!
  19. Does anyone know the status of Leighton Ramsey from Castle?
  20. I'm guessing Nelson won by TF. Not sure, as Horning's name wasn't mentioned specifically so Memorial could have shifted the lineup, but this was on Castle's Twitter acct. I'll add that yes, Nelson beat Horning, but don't know if it was the match referenced below or earlier. Noted in seeding info on Track. Also, May and Robards did not meet in the MD - Central Dual Castle HS Athletics @CastleAthletics · Jan 12 KT Nelson gets the tech fall at 126 Memorial 6 Castle 14
  21. I think Silas Allred may be at that level when he breaks into the lineup. Lucas Davison is not far off that top level. No disrespect is intended to the kids at IU. To be at that level you have to be good. But the Big Ten is full of multiple time state champs everywhere. To rise to the top half of the B1G, in-state schools will need to gain the elite or develop them into elite wrestlers. The results at this point, don't show that overall.
  22. That's definitely what they are hanging their hat on. Kerk won 4-4 on criteria. It's possible he wins, but I still believe the 285 pecking order is: Gable Steveson Mason Parris Everybody else
  23. I believe the reference was that these guys are ready as soon as they hit the lineup. They aren't developing for a couple of years as starters. Maybe I misinterpreted it, but that's how I did. That allows for redshirts. The depth means there aren't holes in the lineup until they're ready. That said, Penn St. has been able to remain there with a hole or two in the lineup, mainly 125 (until last week) and 157/165 this year. Sadly, Joe Lee, thought to be able to step right in has struggled to do so.
