I've heard a ton of "Major black" the Hobart faithful bring him up whenever theirs an opportunity. The kids tough, but before the Al smith they were talking a possible "blackout" against sinko (black dominating sinko). That didn't happen since the kid didn't make it far enough. Kids good, especially for a freshman, but they hyped him up way too much, so he was going to fall eventually.
1. Olsen
2. Hesch
3. Warner
4. Beam
Beams inconsistency makes me worry about picking him to win, but the kids good and has had a decent schedule. I don't know anything about the clay kid but I'd be surprised if he manages to take 4th. Olsen vs Hesch is a guess, maybe a little bias. Hesch was losing to beam 4-0 before getting the pin, but he did have a better al smith then Olsen. I don't think you could really be wrong with any of these four though because any of them can win. You could use a coin flip to determine winners and it'd be as good of a guess as any.
keep up with Miller? Gelen beat him, what, 7-2 last year? It will be a great match and I'm sure it will be closer, but I don't think robinson needed this win to keep up with anyone.
I'd say warner and beam will likely be battling it out for 3rd, but anyone can win here. Then the 4th place draws into childers at regionals which will be a good match no matter who it is.
The 32 winner at the conference tourney could turn around and take 4th at sectional.
I believe it's before the state tournament finishes in which a kid can not turn 20. If it is strictly for an advantage for the sport I don't agree with it.
As much as I agree lecount and Forte could hold their own, that win two years ago doesn't mean much. Hiestand won pretty dominantly in the finals against farrell, who beat lecount. Hiestand is now ranked 5th at 160 but it doesn't matter because rumor has it cathedral has been having individuals lose on purpose so that at state they can shock everyone and have a champ at every weight! They are that good!
4. He's ranked #1 in the nation by some, and top 4 in everyone I've seen, for a reason.
5. Lee is a phenomenal wrestler, but to pick him over micic by "5 points" Is crazy
I know it's college but andrew howe is winning matches 3-2 and people have him as a heavy favorite anyways. Also people picking Egli was all speculation since he hadn't wrestled a hs match when people started picking him. I even picked him preseason to win. Since then I changed my opinion to Hildebrandt and even with the close loss I'll pick him. He did solid at the freakshow, is a returning placer, and is looking solid, but why does it matter who others are picking, it's all a matter of opinion.
It can be extremely easy to ride the hips/use a ball in chain/throw legs in and hold a guy for 2 minutes if you aren't going to get called for stalling. Also the bottom guy could be working to get away, but the top guy isn't doing anything. If you got rid of stalling on top (which I don't see called enough) it would be a lot more boring. If you get the lead, you can smartly stall without getting called, but that atleast gives the bottom guy a chance. If your going to take away stalling on top, you might as well take it way from all positions.
In 2012 all 4 132 lbers from the rochester regional made it. Three from the mishawaka sectional, and they were missing the second best wrestler of the sectional due to injury late in the season.
106: Hildebrandt over Konrath
113: Smith over Crary
120: Lahue over Glogouski (it can be difficult for wrestlers to make the 103 to 119 jump, I wouldn't be surprised if the same goes for 106 to 120)
126: Micic over Davis
132: James over Wilson
138: Hughes over Cash
145: Forte over Lecount (if they were to wrestle today I'd pick lecount)
152: Carroll over Macri
160: Corsaro over Hughes(solely based off history, Hughes looks amazing but he has underperformed during the state series before)
170: Mccloskey over Osborn (Osborn looked really good at Al smith)
182: Rypel over Chambers
195: Kral over Thacker
220: Robinson over Miller
285: Bernard over streck
There were a lot of people picking Hildebrandt to win also. Hildebrandt loses so some people switched to Cummings. I'm going to have to go with Hildebrandt still.
That was someone going off rankings. My question is every result I've seen with mish, when hesch is at 32, derda has been 26. When hesch bumped up derda bumped up and ballentine wrestled 26. So is derda the actual varsity at 26.
Funny things have happened at this tournament seeding wise if im not mistaken though. Like returning al smith placers being seeded over returning state qualifiers/placers
I know they are only pre seeds, but Olsen is a returning 4th placer and beat Warner head to head so I'd be surprised not to see him seeded. And did kern lose to warner? I saw one place said kern won and another said Warner won. Other then that I can't really argue the preseeds, but if history repeats itself, there will probably be more then a few seeds that make you wanna scratch your head.
