  1. He just threw an idea out there as something to think about and maybe comment on. He obviously doesn’t have all the details fleshed out. Forgetting a team or two on a quickly drawn up proposal doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I think pointing out lapses would be welcome. I don’t think he meant to offend anyone. Feel free to add some possible meat on the bones if you care to. This blueandgold guy keeps throwing out topics to think about and possibly comment on during a time when the board is mostly dead except for RTC announcements and the like. At least he’s trying to keep the comment board active.
  2. How would the IHSAA handle it? Obviously, they wouldn’t handle it. I don’t think the IHSAA would ever even consider it. Our IHSAA sees their mission to be a lot different than some other states’ organizations.
  3. I guess they need to keep their straps up.
  4. Showing my age … When I wrestled we were allowed 12 dual meets plus 2 Saturday tournaments (county and conference in our case). That was just a bit before the advent of multi-team duals. My cousin wrestled just a few years before me and I think he had 10 duals and no tournaments before sectionals. My how things have changed.
  5. The Star used to name the area “super teams” for all sports. I’m not sure what they do now. I had to give it up a few years ago. I got a new carrier and they never put the paper in my paper box or in my yard. Instead it always ended up in one of my neighbor’s yard or in the road or across the street. I had to search for it every day. I called the office several times to try to straighten it out but to no avail. And then they raised my rate. I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle anymore.
  6. The Star isn’t what it used to be in a lot of ways.
  7. I thought Tommy Cash’s pinning move on Joe Lee was pretty memorable.
  8. I think I’d go with Howe even though he only won 3 state titles. He was very dominating on those 3 seasons. His one loss was to a kid who was in the process of winning his third state title. And I think his NCAA credentials were pretty impressive, too. My recollection was something like 2, 1, 2, 3 … but I’m sure someone with better recollection will correct me.
  9. First of all, it is absolutely taking the Lord’s name in vain, common or not. But those weren’t the only inappropriate words I heard from commentators while I listened at home. As an example, I heard S__ o_ B____ multiple times.
  10. Yeah, we were at home watching on TV and when they showed the 145 lb class we noticed immediately that 3rd thru 8th placers were those from a different weight class. And we thought, “Oh no, all those parents are going to be pretty unhappy.” So sad.
  11. I kind of liked Mishawaka’s caveman singlets.
  12. I remember being awed by future Olympian “Pete” Lee of Muncie Central in the late 60’s.
  13. What about Bloomington back when they only had football “state champions” determined by polls?
  14. Wow, is this for real?!!! I assume that is not an optical illusion as is the equivalent of 4 full size mats. The economy must really be good. And the tax rate must be pretty sweet, too.
  15. So nobody ever did either of these before 2004? Interesting.
  16. Fun reading. However, I am curious as to our definition/criteria for Most Outstanding Wrestler.
  17. First period started standing up. After that a flip and the winner decided whether he wanted to start the 2nd period up or down. Whoever was up in the 2nd period was down in 3rd period (no choice).
  18. I know throughout the 70’s (and maybe late 60’s???) they had the 1-1-1 format for OT. (There was no OT in duals, matches just ended in draws.). During the 1-1-1 overtime, there were 2 extra refs just observing. If the scored was tied at the end of OT, the three refs conferred and decided a winner based on who was the most aggressive wrestler during OT. At that point in time there were no official criteria such as 1st takedown.
  19. If the ONLY intent is to determine the best wrestler, why advance more than 1 from sectional, regional, and semi-state?
