  1. Cosgrove, Who is your potential 4 timer you are speaking of? There's no one on Hobart's team that has won it 3 times that I can think of on this year's team. Also, give me some help, I can only think of 6 4X winners of the event, with Micic having a chance to join that group this year. The 6 I'm confident of are Robert Maldonado, Tim Maldonado, Kyle Ayersman, Brennan Cosgrove, Eric Galka, and Andrew Howe.
  2. I believe Griffith is there too, so that adds another top 106lber to the mix should Penn's #1 arrive. Last year Hildebrandt wrestled Peek, so I believe that was their "A" Team. The format will be different this year than in year's past. 24 man bracket, with losers of the first round being done. Wrestlers will be able to wrestle back to 3rd place and top 7 are considered placers. Brother Rice is part of the field this year, for those of you who are not familiar with Rudy Yates and the team he wrestles for.
  3. I just can't help myself. You did not state a fact sir, what you did was state your opinion, which was that the teams should have wrestled. The fact of the matter is that they did not wrestle. I hope this clarifies fact versus opinion to you. LOL
  4. Last response to this petty pissing match. They didn't wrestle it, so clearly the kids didn't get a vote. The coaches obviously didn't see the value in it, a point of view I happen to agree with, so they didn't wrestle it. There is no rebuttal necessary, they didn't wrestle , period.
  5. Correct, someone who gets paid to make those decisions. It's hard enough to win one wrestling match, the more opportunities you give an opponent, the better opportunity they have to learn your tendencies and eventually beat you. I believe it was a sound coaching decision on Joll's part. Not wrestling one match when you more than likely will wrestle over 40 times in a season is not a big deal.
  6. I said I was speculating, so clearly I didn't have all of the details as far as the number of teams. I will stick to my original thought process however. They will see each other 3-5 other times during the year, no reason to wrestle a dual that you'll see in a few weeks.
  7. If I had to speculate, and that is exactly what I'm doing here, they have to wrestle in a conference dual at some point during the year, so why waste an opportunity to wrestle teams you otherwise won't wrestle during the season by wrestling a conference foe you'll likely wrestle 2-4 times. I'm sure from a rivalry and spectator's perspective it was a let down, but from a coaching perspective it makes perfect sense to get matches versus other teams.
  8. How exactly does one "almost" lose a match? It seems that the rules are pretty cut and dry as to how a person wins a match or loses for that matter. Stevan scored more points than Davis, therefore he won the match. I would agree with you had you said it was a competitive match and no one expected that, but he didn't almost lose, he just didn't dominate as everyone expected.
  9. I love that you kept the "preform" in there. Instant Classic on his second post.
  10. Look, the guy is going to take heat for saying Micic is a lock, but the irony of it all is that when it comes time to make state champion predictions at the end of the year, many of the people who have a problem with his statement will also be taking Micic as their pick for either 120 or 126. Micic is a class act and no one man's opinion is going to change that or the fact that people will be coming at him with their best shot this year. Davis threw caution to the wind and represented himself well in the finals by doing so. I will be rooting for Stevan to win his 3rd title and will be choosing him as my pick at any weight he decides to wrestle this year. Very excited for the year to start.
  11. Didn't he only wrestle parts of the last 2 years due to injury? I could look but my couch is comfortable and I just don't want to Google, but off of memory I think he had mid 30's as far as matches go his freshman year and maybe that same number the past 2 years combined. It could also be part of what an earlier poster stated (Vito P), college wrestling is a grind and tests your mental fortitude, perhaps he's not interested in a 6th year of wrestling. 6 years of college wouldn't have been so bad in retrospect, but throwing cutting weight and getting beat up on a daily basis, and I'm not sure I'd sign up for that.
  12. Your first paragraph sounds like a lot of excuses. If he was as injured as you claim, which I don't dispute, why not look into the possibility of a medical redshirt? He didn't and chose to wrestle, so in critiquing his performance, he didn't do very well. Kyle went 3-2 and DNP, small serving sample, I'm not ready to say he'll be an All-American, but I'm also not ready to say the house is falling and give up on him. Also, since wrestle offs are not a clear, objective way of determining the starter, I'm curious what method you prefer. It just seems that if 2 wrestlers are of equal talent and are then given the opportunity to engage in competition, with the winner being elected the starter, it's pretty cut and dry. But as you so eloquently put it, "it don't mean crap". Also, since 08/09, who has Cashe beaten that "you've heard of"? He may have beaten a who's who of ranked wrestlers and I'm just not aware of it.
  13. I know you're really smart, so why don't you identify the "bash". If you read my earlier posts I think that the two are good for one another and even went as far as saying we've not heard the last of Cashe. I posed a question that was food for thought and create discussion, so again if you can't deal with that, it's your issue to handle.
  14. My intention was not to get involved in a pissing contest, but to refute the fact that one person said Kyle wasn't a shooting star of something to that effect, I disagreed with that assessment and provided some facts to show that if Cashe was a "shooting star", then Kyle had to be considered just that as well. I appreciate the information regarding Cashe's Fargo accomplishment.
  15. What did I say that was offensive? I Posed a question, if you're that sensitive and it bothered you, deal with it.
  16. Oh and to address your 141 query, Kyle is far too small for that weight and I've not seen Cashe lately to give a real accurate opinion.
  17. I'm not going to bash Cashe, but what has he really done since his freshman year and his unexpected all-America finish? I respect the hell out of him, but I totally disagree with your assessment of Kyle. Kyle is on the upswing and I unfortunately think we've seen the best of Cashe at this point. You are entitled to your opinion, but I for one was pleasantly surprised by kyle's win but by no means was I shocked. I know high school isn't always a barometer for college success, but Kyle has 3 state titles for a reason and Cashe had one and their careers can be closely compared because they wrestled similar weights in high school.
  18. He sent it at 2:30am, I'm surprised cosgrove was that coherant.
  19. I'm not sure "wow" is how I'd describe the win. Did I like others think that it was a bit unexpected because of the success Cashe has had on the collegiate level, sure, but when we treat it as a fluke I think you don't give Kyle enough cedit. We're talking about a 3 time state champ who won 187 of the 189 high school matches he competed in, he came to Purdue with a bit of a pedigree. I know how hard he works and how great of a kid he is and I couldn't be more happy for he and his family. Kyle and Cashe will be good for one another and push the others best out. Clearly I'm a big fan of Kyle's, but I also know you don't keep a former all-American on the bench without a fight.
  20. First off, congrats to the young man. I've had a few opportunities to meet him and I've walked away impressed each time. As for IU and Purdue stepping up, I'm not sure there is much they can do when it comes to a Blue Chipper like Micic. I think from a wrestling standpoint, neither of the three schools have realized much success on the mat, I do however think Northwestern is closer to changing that at this point, but when you consider the education and what a Northwestern degree does it's not even a competition. A Northwestern education easily costs between $140-$180K when it's all said and done, so if he's getting part or all of that paid, from a dollars and cents perspective it makes perfect sense when you consider Purdue and IU will run you $90-110K. Great choice in my opinion, will provide him with many opportunities in the future, and I mean beyond wrestling.
  21. I had no idea Watkins was not in, with all he's done for kids, wrestling, the Calumet High School community, it's really a shame. What does one have to do gain consideration, I really think him not being in is a travesty.
  22. I don't know the kid at all to be honest, but he is in fact a KID, so as stated by someone else, probably not appropriate for an adult to call him out on his grades. And you clearly missed the day they taught irony in English class. I was pointing out the fact that someone with quite a few usage/spelling/capitalization errors, was calling someone else out for "getting bad grades". I'm not much of a smart guy, but I am smart enough to use spell check and proof read something I've written if I'm calling someone else out for their grammar or for "getting bad grades".
  23. Irony- Being called out for having poor grades by someone who clearly earned poor grades himself.
  24. Your question was answered in an earlier post, they get to recommend student-athletes for acceptance.
